Chapter 1: Aurelia Malfoy
Walking through the halls of Hogwarts Aurelia Malfoy could not believe she had been at Hogwarts for the past 4 years. While the Malfoy family was traditionally sorted into slytherin she followed her mother towards ravenclaw. Seeing the politics happening within the slytherin house, Aurelia was glad she was sorted in ravenclaw instead.
Aurelia was the younger sister of Lucius Malfoy, who had graduated Hogwarts 2 years ago and was now working his way up to become a law wizard and later take over as lord Malfoy. Her brother was also betrothed to Narcissa Black and would be marrying her next summer when she would graduate this year. Within the pureblood circles it was quite common for the girls to be betrothed by the age of 15, or their 5th year of Hogwarts. This so that the families had adequate time to take care of all the bonding ceremonies and contracts and the children would have time for their magic to get used to each other. Magical bonding ceremonies with people not well adjusted to each others magic could have become quite dangerous for the individuals magic involved.
But besides the riches, magic, and books there was another secret the Malfoys were hiding from everyone. A secret, that while it could make them one of the most important families and give them a great deal of power, would also endanger one of their own. And there was one thing purebloods, and definitely the Malfoys put great importance on it is protecting their own.
There was more to Aurelia than being part of the Malfoy family. She was quite a smart witch, excelling in charms and potions. While she was sorted in ravenclaw and was friends with Pandora Greengrass, due to the pureblood events and classes Aurelia was good friends with Regulus Black who introduced her to Severus Snape with whom she shares her love of potions.
As it was a Sunday afternoon and classes started again tomorrow Aurelia was surprised to find a small first or second year slytherin crying her eyes out sitting with her knees pulled up against the wall. Seeing no one around and wondering what had happened Aurelia approach her.
"Hey, I am Aurelia Malfoy, can you tell me your name?, Aurelia asked while kneeling beside the small slytherin.
"Greetings miss Malfoy, I am heiress Diadema Goshawk, lovely to make your acquaintance," heiress Goshawk answered Aurelia while looking up and trying to dry her tears.
While some would be surprised the formal answer given by heiress Goshawk showed the good upbringing she had. While some might find it backward and unnecessary within wizarding culture formal addresses are quite important as they not only show respect but also ensure the protection of your house. Greeting someone with their first name would suggest you are friends which could have political consequences, mainly for the heirs and heiresses let alone the lords of a house.
"Heiress Goshawk, could you tell me what happened to you? And why are you out here by yourself, it is not very usual for slytherins to be by themselves."
"I was with my friends returning to the common room before curfew when I realized I had forgotten my book in the library and went to go get it. My friends proposed to walk with me but I thought nothing could happen so I told them to go back before me. After picking up my book and heading to the common room, I ran into those four boys. You know the ones that get away with anything." Heiress Goshawk started explaining.
Aurelia thought that while she was right and nothing is supposed to happen when walking around the Hogwarts halls, the truth is that often something did happen. And that always had to do with the four boys that heiress Goshawk was referring to. Those four boys were the mighty and mayhem causing marauders, James Potter, Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin and the white sheep Sirius Black. While the Potter heir had always caused quite a mayhem as a child, heir Black did not become like that till his second year. Though if you would believe Severus he was always like that.
Signing Aurelia asked, "what did they do now?"
"They found it funny that a 'little evil snake' was walking alone in the hallway, and destroyed all my homework. For some reason they though it was funny as they were laughing the whole time. How am I to explain to McGonagall that I don't have my homework?" heiress Goshawk finished getting a bit panicked by the end.
"Everything will be alright, the important part is that I get you to your common room before curfew starts and as one of the head boys this year is from your house you can explain to him what happened and they will make sure McGonagall won't take any points or give you a bad grade." Aurelia explained while getting up.
Waiting for heiress Goshawk to get up as well they both made their way towards the slytherin common room. Arriving in front of the hidden wall, Aurelia waited for heiress Goshawk to say the password and enter her common room, before quickly turning around and walking all the way up again. Aurelia would need to be quick to reach her common room in time before the curfew started as she only had 10 minutes to spare and she needed to go all the way to the west tower.
A couple of weeks later Aurelia was hanging out with Regulus on the grass field near the black lake, when Pandora came running towards them.
"You won't believe what the idiots did this time," Pandora said when she got near where Regulus and Aurelia were seated. Pandora was shaking her head almost like she didn't know whether to laugh or be angry.
"They attacked Severus again?," Aurelia said while looking up to Pandora from where she was reading one of her books on the art of healing.
"Honestly, why can't they leave him alone? His life is hard enough without them adding to it. And the Evans girl is not helping, she only adds to Potters's anger without helping her friend." Aurelia said while outing her frustration with the marauders constantly bullying Severus, instead of just getting a life and leaving him alone.
"No," Pandora said, surprising Regulus and Aurelia, "well, maybe it was planned for them. But they actually hit a second year whose sister is head girl. I honestly don't know whether they are just stupid or if they really don't realize that they are making more and more enemies as the days go on. I wonder if they realize that Hogwarts will end someday and they will then need to work together with a lot of the people who they bullied." Pandora said signing and sitting down next to Aurelia.
"Does he realize what he is doing as a Black heir? I can't believe lord Black would allow his grandson to behave like this." Aurelia stated turning to look at Regulus who was looking more dejected by the minute.
"Your right grandfather would not be happy. Honestly I don't think he knows what is going on at Hogwarts. Even my parents only know because of the gossip in the pureblood circles and because McGonagall sometimes notifies them. But if Dumbledore gets there first my parents will never know." Regulus said, looking down. Aurelia knows that while Sirius might be an idiot Regulus still loves him and is hurt each time Sirius proclaims the Blacks are no longer his family.
"I just wonder what happened, I mean Sirius used to be the perfect heir Black. Even my brother used to be jealous of how well behaved and perfect he was," wondered Aurelia out loud. And it was true till his second year Sirius was the perfect heir everyone mirrored his own heirs to. He was handsome, smart, magically powerful, and most importantly extremely well behaved.
"I honestly don't know. I just remember that mother and father but mainly mother were not happy with is sorting and decided to increase his pureblood education. We only start to delve deeper into the dark arts when we finish first year so we have a magical basis. After that he started spewing the light side propaganda. The weirdest thing was that Sirius absolutely refused mother to teach me when I finished my first year." Regulus stated deep in thought. It still bothered him that he did not know what had happened to the brother that always had his back and used to love him.
"We can only hope that one day they will grow up." Pandora said taking out her transfiguration book. "Can maybe one of you help me with the spell we need to learn? I just don't seem to grasp it." Pandora asked effectively distracting Regulus who started going into a detailed explanation of transfiguring a rat into a cup.
Thank you all so much for reading and don't forget to review what you think.
Next chapter Aurelia will meet Sirius…
While this will be evil Dumbles, Voldemort and Lily I was wondering if you want James to be bad and stay on the light side or join Sirius on the "good" pureblood side?
