A/N: Thank you all for the support that you have given this story I honestly never thought I would get this number of views or even favorites and followers when I started writing this story, but I did, and I am forever grateful. This chapter is going to be when things really heat up with the government and you are going to see the lengths that they are going to go to to get Derek back. I'm going to try and finish this story before the year ends but I make no promises, but I decided that I am not going to start watching Grey's Anatomy again until this story is finished.

Disclaimer: I only wish that I owned Grey's Anatomy, but I do own the DVD's now

Chapter 16

Meredith watched as Derek pulled out of the driveway with Zola in the backseat and she knew that Zola was going to be talking the entire time to the dance. She may have not been theirs biologically but there was so much of themselves in her that it was scary sometimes she had gotten her chattiness for Derek and there were times when she had a look that was something that she would give sometimes.

Smiling as they pulled away Meredith couldn't help but be happy that Zola got to experience this dance with her father and that Derek had come back into their lives for this moment. Taking a deep breath Meredith tried to push away the nerves that she was feeling for some reason she was feeling like some bad was going to happen tonight at either the dance or her meeting with Bailey tonight.

She didn't know why she felt like something bad was going to happen and Meredith hoped that nothing bad happened, but she couldn't shake that feeling. Looking at her phone for the time Meredith saw that it was time for her to leave so that she wouldn't be late for her meeting with Bailey.

Grabbing her purse Meredith walked over to the front door and turned on the alarm system before exiting the house and looking the front door. Getting into her car she put her purse on the passenger side seat before starting the car and starting the drive to Grey-Sloan.

Her and Derek but had today off because of the dance and needed the day to get ready for it because Meredith had known that it would have taken hours for them to get ready with house excited Zola had been for this dance since Derek had come back. It was that reason that Alex had offered to watch Ellis and Bailey for them. She was a little nervous that being around this many people was going to affect the anxiety that Derek had but he had been doing better since he had started going to therapy and she hoped that it only continued to get better.

Being approved to start doing surgery again proved how much he had improved since getting back to his life and Meredith couldn't be happier for him. She couldn't imagine what he had gone through the past three years because she knew that he hadn't told her everything that they had done to him so that she wouldn't worry constantly but a part of her was always going to worry about him.

Meredith had taken the long way today so that she could think about what she was going to tell Bailey about her switching specialties. She knew that it was going to be hard because Bailey had been her mentor after everything that had happened when she had left neuro and even before when she had been a resident Bailey had always paged her when there had been an interesting surgery so that she could convert her to general. But Meredith had always been interested in neuro when she had started

Bailey had been thrilled when she declared general and her and Richard had really taken her under her wing to teach her everything that they could before her boards after missing all the years that she could have gotten when she had been chasing neuro. It felt a little strange to be going back after all the years that she had spent in general, but she never forgot anything that Derek had taught her in neuro and if felt right to be going back.

Pulling into her parking spot Meredith quickly parked her car and tried not the let the nerves she was feeling take over. Her phone buzzed from her purse, and she knew that it was Derek telling her that he was at the dance with Zola. Since he had gotten back, they made it routine to tell each other where they were at all times so that they knew in they had to. It had been Derek's idea when he was still so anxious that he had been afraid of everything except for their family, and it gave Derek a sense of security in knowing where she was at all times so she couldn't deny giving him something that made him feel more secure after everything that he had been through in the past three years.

Opening the message Meredith saw that she was right and that it was Derek telling her that he was at the dance with Zola. Smiling Meredith sent him a quick reply before she got out and locked her car before walking into the hospital.

Meredith made her way to Bailey's office Meredith tried to think of everything that she was going to tell her that she decided to before she had gotten here and if Meredith was being honest, she was a little worried on how Bailey was going to react to her switching to neuro.

Getting to the office that had once belonged to Derek and Webber when they both had been chiefs made all of this feel real instead of something that her and Derek talked about because this was real. It was thanks to Derek suggesting this that she had even considered switching to neuro and for the first time since she had switched to general Meredith felt like she was going to do what she was meant to.

Taking a final deep breath Meredith knocked on the door and waited until she heard Bailey say, "Come in."

Meredith opened the heavy wooden door and made her way into Bailey's office and said, "Thanks for agreeing to have this meeting with me so much later than we should have but with Zola having the father daughter dance tonight there was a lot that we had to get done."

Taking a seat across from Bailey she was a little shocked when Bailey asked, "How excited was Zola to be going to the father daughter dance with her dad instead of Alex or someone else."

"I don't know who was more excited for the dance Derek or Zola. Zola must have been up since 7 and was bouncing off of the walls all day until we started to get ready for the dance. The only good thing is that she is going to sleep well tonight. And Derek is most likely going to give me a full report on what happened at the dance when I get home."

Bailey smiled at her one-time intern and stated, "You know the sign of a good father when he is willing to do anything for his daughter. You got one of the good ones Grey. Now what can I do for you since you needed to have a meeting to discuss this."

Meredith swallowed hard knowing that this was the moment that could either make or break her career as a neurosurgeon as it all came up to whether she could switch her specialties but considering that her contract as a general surgeon was up this year, she didn't see it being too big of a problem. It took one more moment but then Meredith started to talk, "Bailey you know that I have loved being a general surgeon and being the chief of general, but I've been thinking of changing my specialty to neuro."

Bailey looked shocked at what Meredith was saying after everything that had happened when she was originally going to declare neuro after she had messed with the Alzheimer's trial and had nearly ruined her and Derek's career in the process. It had been the end of their working relationship to save their marriage and it worked well as they were now stronger than ever before.

Finally seeming to acknowledge what Meredith had just told her Bailey replied, "You want to switch from general to neuro? What does Derek think about this?"

"It was Derek's idea for me to switch to general he's been trying to make up for a lot of things since he got back and right now, he is trying to let me go back to the career that I thought I would have instead of one I had been pushed into. I never wanted to do general Dr. Bailey, I always thought it was to close to my mother but after everything that had happened with the trial and everyone telling me I should do general I just went with what everyone was saying instead of doing what I wanted to do."

Bailey sighed, "If you switch specialties Grey, I am going to be down one of my best general surgeons and down the chief."

"I know that Bailey, but neuro was what I always was interested in and if I hadn't messed with the trial in the first place it's what I would have specialized in to begin with."

"Trust me Grey we all know that would have happened. But are you sure that you want to try and work with Derek again after everything that happened?"

Meredith nodded, "I'm more sure about this than ever Bailey."

"Well then I have no problem with letting you switch to neuro. You'll have to stay on general until I can find someone to replace you but then you'll be working under Derek and Amelia until you take your boards."

Meredith couldn't help the smile that came on her face as Bailey had agreed to let her go back to neuro as soon as she could find a replacement for her. This was what she had wanted to do since she was in med school and was finally getting the chance to do it. Still smiling Meredith replied, "Thank you Dr. Bailey."

"You're welcome, Grey."

Meredith got up from the seat that she had been sitting in throughout the meeting with Bailey and put her purse back on her shoulder and exited the office. She felt like she was floating for the moment she was able to go back to neuro where she had always wanted to be and with Ellis and Bailey at Alex's for the night she could go home and have a drink to celebrate without the fear of one of her kids needing something in the middle of the night.

It had been years since she had gotten drunk but if she could have tonight would have been the night that she did. Getting to her car Meredith fished her keys out of pocket but accidentally dropped them.

Kneeling to pick them up Meredith didn't notice Lili St. John sneaking up behind her so when she stood up the only thing that she felt was someone wrapping their arm around her and stick a needle into her neck. The only thing that Meredith saw was a flash of blonde hair. The effect was immediate as the drug knocked her Lili took Meredith in her arms and took Meredith's cellphone out of her purse but left her bag and keys where they were.

Once Lili had Meredith in the government issued car, she hit the earbud in her ear and stated, "I got Meredith Grey bringing her to the location that we discussed and awaiting further instructions."

Lili couldn't help the sinister smile that came on her face as she felt like they had Derek Shepherd right where they wanted him.

As Meredith started to come to, she felt that her head was pounding with a headache and everything that had happened to her came back in flashes. Seeing Derek take Zola to the father daughter dance, the meeting with Bailey to switch to neuro, Bailey agreeing to let her switch to neuro, and someone approaching her as she was at her car to go back home.

She didn't know where she was, and that part scared her and was wondering if having a meeting with Bailey tonight was the smartest idea put the other part of her was wondering if this was the government trying to get Derek back. After all they should have known that them being this quiet wasn't right. Meredith only hoped that her kids and Derek were alright.

Gaining more of her senses back Meredith noticed that her hands were handcuffed behind her to a metal chair and in the background, she could hear a woman talking.

"I'm just waiting for his wife to wake up Martin. You said it yourself that Derek's wife Meredith would be the perfect bait to get him back until he finished the work that he had been doing and I understand that we are on a timeline. Derek Shepherd screwed up over by escaping and by going public but when we get him back, he won't have the chance to try again. I have plans in the works. We are going to finish what we started when we recruited him, and he won't be able to get back to his family until he is fully finished so Shepherd better have enjoyed the brief vacation to see his family because he won't be seeing them again until he is finished if the president even lets him after all the damage that he has caused us."

The women stopped talking in the background and seemed to be listening to something that someone was saying on the other end of the phone call that she was taking before she responded to him, "His wife is going to be the perfect bait and we will get some information out of her. I'll be in contact soon."

Not hearing anything else Meredith slowly opened her green eyes only to find a woman who looked to only be in her 30's with blonde hair standing in front of her. She reminded Meredith of the person that you shouldn't mess with.

The woman looked at Meredith and had a sinister look gleaming in her eyes that was alarming almost as if she had been waiting for this moment and it wouldn't surprise Meredith if she had. Especially since she was going to use her to get to Derek and after everything that he had been through the past three years Meredith wasn't going to let them get to him again.

The woman stated, "Pleasure to meet you Meredith, you don't have to worry it's not you or your children that we are after we only want your husband back and then you'll never have to see us again. As he still has work to do for us."

Meredith knew by the way that this woman was talking it was the person that Derek had warned her was the worst Lili St. John. She was the person that Derek had feared the most because of how unpredictable she was and the fact that he thought she would have no problem killing when she was ordered to.

Lili knelt in front of her and as much as Meredith wanted to try and break free, she knew that it was only going to make things worse for herself. Messing with the necklace that Derek had given her when they had gotten engaged that had her and Derek's initials carved into it Lili said, "Don't worry all of this will be over soon."

"You'll never get him back Derek is right where he belongs."

That had been the wrong thing to say because in turn Lili smacked Meredith so hard across the face that her head moved to the left side, and she could hear the smack echoing throughout the warehouse that she was in and the burning sensation on her face made Meredith know that she was going to have a mark soon. Lili then tore the necklace that she was wearing off and said, "He belongs to the government now Grey. In fact, I think it's time to give him a call."

Lili then exited the room that Meredith was being held and Meredith felt like her emotions were in overdrive over everything that had happened and knew that they wouldn't stop until they had Derek back. At a whisper Meredith stated, "Oh Derek don't do anything stupid."
