Chapter 01:

The Beginning of the End.

Percy was sitting on the beach, digging up the sand his toes. He sat staring at the horizon, watching the sun slowly sing under the never-ending line. A cool breeze was blowing, coming from the ocean, carrying it's salty scent. He watched as a few dolphins swam by. A hippocampus was gliding silently on the water surface before sinking back under water.

The Giant War had ended almost 3 months ago. A lot had happened since then. For one thing, Leo had miraculously returned from the dead, along with Claypso. Although the campers had been quite rattled by his sudden landing from the sky on a fire breathing mechanical dragon, they were soon overjoyed to see him, and a little too happy to punch him in the face for dying like that. Other than that, things were generally okay.

The repairs of the Camp were almost complete. Dionysus had been pardoned and welcomed back to Mount Olympus. But Apollo had taken his place, punished by Zeus because Zeus couldn't punish himself. He was actually quite fun. At least he didn't purposefully mispronounce everyone's name. Chiron had been very busy with everything at Camp Half-Blood and maintaining communication with Camp Jupiter. Frank, Hazel and Reyna along with the other camper visited quite often. The Campers from Camp Half-Blood also went for road trips to Camp Jupiter. They helped each other with the rebuilding and renovations. Everything was working out fine. Everyone was happy. Everyone except Percy, that is.

He just couldn't get cheerful, no matter how hard he tried. He'd plaster on a fake smile whenever he was at camp, or surrounded by people. He responded without hearing to their questions. He assured he was fine when they and to him with their condolences. Chiron would constantly make sure Percy was okay. Even Clarisse would come to his cabin every night and sit down with him, talking about how they both missed her. Then she'd leave, saying that she'll break his neck if he told anyone about these talks. He'd give a dry laugh and wave her goodbye. He acted as normal as he could when people were around. But as soon as they'd be out of earshot, as soon as Percy was alone, the tears would stream down his face. He couldn't stop thinking about her, and cried almost all the time. How could he be happy, when the person who made him happy wasn't there anymore? How could he bear to smile without seeing her's? How can he be normal, when nothing felt normal without her? Percy Jackson, one of the funniest, happiest, and most sarcastic boy in the Camp, couldn't be happy, because Annabeth Chase was dead.
