It was on a day in winter when Logan Mitchell's heart was shrouded in a desolate darkness. Because on that very day he lost his soul mate, the love of his life. Camille. Because of a fire. A fire that broke out on an airplane.

Logan had lost his footing since the funeral. His own life had become meaningless. He spent his nights wandering around the city until dawn, under the cold light of stars. In the past he would never have dared to go out at night, but now he had lost all fear. His only companions were the wind and his memories. Memories of a time that was now lost forever.

One night, however, he wasn't wandering around, but was sitting on the floor in front of Camille's former apartment. When the boys found him there, they sat down next to him in silence.

"We spent so much time here," Logan said suddenly. "So often we lay on her bed and listened to music, talked, laughed, and did all the other things that couples do. So often we fell asleep arm in arm, without worries, without pain."

Kendall, James, and Carlos didn't know what to say. They all mourned for Camille, for their friend, but none of the three was able to understand the pain that raged in Logan.

"She said she would stay with me forever. But now she is... just gone. She couldn't even say goodbye. She is gone and..." His voice broke and hot tears were rolling down his cheeks. "I don't understand it!" He shouted desperately and started to cry. James, who was sitting right next to him, put an arm around him. "It's okay, buddy. It hurts now, but it will stop eventually."

"Do you really think so?" Logan asked, sobbing.

"Yeah, you just have to try."

A few nights later, Kendall woke up believing he heard a door close. He straightened up and immediately looked over at Logan's bed. The bed was empty, but this was no longer an unusual sight - unlike the white envelope that lay on the pillow. Kendall got up, walked over to Logan's bed, and picked up the envelope. He opened it and pulled out a piece of paper. He unfolded it and read:

I tried, I really did, but I can't live with the pain anymore. I thank you all for your loyal friendship. And I'm sorry to have to do this to you, but I can't take it anymore. Please forgive me. Logan.

"Logan..." Kendall whispered, unable to form a clear thought. But then reality hit him with full force.

"Logan!" He shouted in fear and panic, and stormed out of his room.

They found him on the roof of the Palm Woods. And to their overwhelming, great relief, Logan was unharmed. He sat on the ground with his arms around his legs and cried uncontrollably.

Carlos was the first. He went to Logan, knelt down beside him, and hugged him tightly. Logan looked at him for a moment, then he leaned his head on Carlos's chest, and closed his eyes.

James came next. He knelt behind them and put his strong arms around their shoulders.

And finally, Kendall knelt down beside his friends, completing their circle.

All night long they remained in their position without saying a single word. And when the sun rose the next morning, it was as if the new day not only banished the darkness, but also gave them new hope and strength.
