As the rain tried grabbing for attention by smashing itself against the vase window, Saitama ignored it as he watched the news with an uninterested look on his face as said news station described new terrorizers of the Monsters Association. His eyes were those usual pea-sized pupils, not having any other features apart from that. He had a cup of warm coffee and was sipping on it. He usually had something to think about whenever he watched the news, but this time he didn't really have much to think or say, most likely because the monster seemed like an easy defeat. Anyone could beat it especially Saitama with his powerful punch of death. What he was thinking was, "What will I have for lunch?" He had honey cereal for breakfast, now what was for lunch?
The train of thought was interrupted was a thunderbolt. "Bang! Bang! Bang!", it went. It seemed to be coming naturally, not like it was coming from a monster of anything, the only monster being the thundercloud that was as grey as a wolf. "Ah, rain's really bad today." Saitama said to himself. "Better stay inside unless another threat comes into the city." He went back to watching the TV. Then it thundered again. Saitama stared out the window spouting an irritated expression.
'The next hour is going to be a pain in the ass.' Saitama thought to himself.
Meanwhile, Genos was having breakfast of his own. It had been a few months since he moved into Saitama's apartment and he was already starting to feel at home. Then again he was living with his sensei so it would make sense. He would get used to anything as long as it involved a man he respected and cared so deeply for.
He chewed on his eggs in a civilized manner. He didn't really bother to watch the news with Saitama as he didn't think there would anything of note. He just decided to do his own thing until the rain went away. He was taking his own time to think about what he could do indoors. Obviously fighting monsters would have to be outside which, given the thunder, would not be something Genos would want to do. He tried to ponder and ponder what he could do after he was finished with his delicious eggs. Then all of a sudden the thunder came back, this time even louder and more unexpected than before.
Genos jumped into a straight sitting position. He did NOT expect the third round of thunder. The first and second he was not startled by, but only because those were somewhat more soft and gentle. The thunder this time however made the previous two moments sound like wind blowing in a blossoming flower field in comparison. The thunder just kept getting louder and louder, which Genos getting scared and jumping each time. After the seventh or eighth one Genos was surprisingly really startled up. So much so that he got up out of his wooden seat. ran out of the room and went into the room that Saitama was in.
Saitama had his eyes glued to the television. He didn't know why because there still was not anything gripping happening on the news, yet he didn't feel like changing it to another channel either. Whether it was because he didn't care enough to change the channel or because he was too lazy to pick up the robotic rectangle with buttons, Saitama knew he wasn't going to in for a engrossing morning. That is, until he felt something squeeze the sides of his stomach, followed by something landing on his shoulder. He turned and looked to see the blond-haired cyborg holding him in an embrace.
Not giving much of an reaction, Saitama asked, "Huh? Are you okay Genos?"
Genos looked up at his sensei. His facial expression was like it always was: furrowed eyebrows and no smile. He was not trembling but looked like he was on the verge of doing so. Softly, he said, "Sensei…I'm scared of it…the thunder…"
"Ah, I see. Scared of thunder huh?" Saitama responded nonchalantly with his usual nonchalant expression.
"Well no, not exactly. I'm only scared of thunder when it gets really loud. Otherwise I'm fine. Not right now though." Genos replied.
"I see." Saitama said. "Well then just try to be more prepared. You can count up until the thunder strikes again. That'll help a lot."
"No thanks. I prefer to hug you and have you protect me from the thunderstorm." Genos responded tightening his hug.
"Oh. Okay." Saitama didn't really care what Genos did. As long as it made the kid happy, then that's what really mattered.
The rest of thunderstorm went precisely like this, which Genos getting less and less scared knowing Saitama would protect him no matter what. Because even though it may not look like it at first glance, the truth was Saitama really did care about Genos deep down. He couldn't even bare the thought of losing Genos as much as Genos couldn't bare the thought of losing him. He cared that much.
After a while not only did the thunderstorm stop, but so did the rain and rain clouds. By then it was a basic crowd of fluffy white pillows too airy to touch.
"Oh, it stopped raining." Saitama observed. He looked back at Genos. "Wanna go grocery shopping? I'm running low on food again." The former asked.
Genos really wanted to hang out with Saitama today so he knew he couldn't turn his request down. "Yes." Genos replied quite simply. Before you know it, Saitama was dressed in a casual outfit with a monotonous white shirt, navy blue shorts and sandals. He walked out the door first with Genos following along.
Even though people may not know who Saitama is, that did not matter to Genos because one thing was for certain: he would stick by him and defend him no matter what. He had a deep care for his sensei and knew that said sensei cared about him equally as much.
