All the members of the Wizengamot sat on their chairs waiting for Dumbledore to start the session.
"Good morning, my dear colleagues. The session opens today at the beginning of the 1991/1992 school year. Various proposals have come in to make changes to the curricula of different school subjects from the Hogwarts board of directors. Our task is to analyze said changes in order to approve or deny the proposals." Dumbledore spoke.
"Before we start with the changes demanded by the board, some of our member has requests," Lord Greengrass claimed, and Dumbledore nodded.
Dumbledore looked at the members of the assembly trying to guess who would stand up. He was surprised when Abraxas Malfoy stood, followed by Kyle Prince, Cygnus II and Augusta Longbottom.
"Honorably members of the Wizengamot, we decided that we arrived and moment of our lives when we want to enjoy our grandchildren and have a peaceful life," Abraxas said.
"I took my siege many years ago when my husband died, but it was temporary. I was waiting until my son was ready to take his rightful place," Augusta affirmed.
"After many years, our heir is ready to take his place along the members of this assembly, so I would like to retire," Kyle said.
"Sirius is ready to take my place, and I can retire to enjoy my children and grandchildren." Cygnus said.
"I can understand Lord Malfoy, Lord Black and Lady Longbottom claims, but Lord Prince should remember that Mister Snape is only a halfblood," Dolores Umbridge said, gathering some scowls from the rest of the assembly.
"This would not be a problem, Dolores. As you may know, some families had some halfbloods members on the Wizengamot," Tiberius said.
"Actually, Severus is not a halfblood. We discovered that his father, Tobias Snape was a squib from the Shafiq family, so he is a pureblood." Kyle said.
"This mean that he could take the Prince siege or the Shafiq siege. We should decide the best for our assembly," Griselda spoke.
"Or he could represent both sieges," Ignatius offered.
"I propose a vote to decide if Severus Snape should take the Prince siege, the Shafiq siege or both," Bartemius put forth.
Dumbledore looked at the assembly, he was not really amused with new proposition of the day. Dumbledore felt that his hands were tied so he sighed and started with the ballot.
"All those in favor of Severus Snape taking over from the Prince family, please raise your hand," Dumbledore said, and 5 hands raised.
After noting on the parchment, Dumbledore continued.
"All those in favor of Severus Snape taking over from the Shafiq family, please raise your hand," Dumbledore, and 26 hands raised.
Dumbledore frowned but continued.
"All those in favor of Severus Snape taking both seats, the Prince family and the Shafiq family, raise your hand." Dumbledore added, and 5 hands raised. "All those who wish to abstain, raise your hand."
Dumbledore took notes of the votes, frowning as now the Shafiq family was not extinct anymore and it would not be possible to influence the stubborn man.
"With a total of 26 votes, Severus Snape has been the new head of the reborn Shafiq family," Dumbledore claimed. "When are the new members of the Wizengamot arriving?"
"They are already here to take their places," Abraxas said.
"As our laws says, we will stay by their side until the new year to teach them the ropes of their new job," Cygnus spoke.
An usher let the new members in, and they sat quickly on their seats. Dumbledore could see as Lucius was talking with Sirius and Severus while Abraxas was talking with Augusta. There was a tension on the air, as nobody knew what the new members could propose. Lucius held his hand up, and Dumbledore give him the dais.
"During the last centuries one of the most important families in the wizarding world has fallen into oblivion and its seat in this assembly has been left empty." Lucius declared. "Today the last heir of the line comes to present his claim to his rightful place between us."
"Who is this person?" Dumbledore asked fearing the worst.
"Tom Riddle III, the last heir of Slytherin." Lucius announced.
Everybody started talking at the same time. Even if there were no proof on his shenanigans, all suspected him to be the famous Lord Voldemort. What he would to their word if he was part of the Wizengamot. Some said that if he was in the assembly, it could be possible to control his doings.
"Silence! I will not accept this kind of behavior int the room," Dumbledore said. "How can we know that he is really the last heir of Slytherin?"
"We did the heritage test and I have copies of the results," Sirius said, sending copies to the rest of the assembly. "As you may see, he has the seats of Gaunt and Slytherin."
"What about his relation to Lord Voldemort?" Ignatius asked.
"We could ask him, and he can explain why he decided to come to the Wizengamot to claim his seat." Severus proposed and everybody nodded.
"Could you summon him to the room?" Tiberius asked and Severus nodded.
Severus send his patronus and some minutes later an usher brought a handsome man into the room. He looked in his fifty, but he was probably older. He walked confident to the dais and smiled at all the member looking at him.
"Honorable members of this assembly, I thank you for the opportunity to claim my place among you as part of the Ancient and Honorably House of Lord Slytherin." Tom expressed. "Many years ago, I thought that the best way to improve our world was by isolating the wizarding world from the muggle world. That left Muggleborns and their families in trouble as they could neither integrate our world nor separate from the Muggle world. Eleven years ago, thanks to a family of a member of the Black, who was born without active magic, I had the opportunity to see the Muggle world from another point of view
Something different from the way I lived in my childhood. This gave me the opportunity to open up to that world and understand that although we must isolate ourselves, we must incorporate these people who, although they were born in that place, belong to our world."
"How would you do that?" Elphias asked.
"Children have their first magical accidents from the first year of life or a few earlier. The idea is that instead of sending obliviators and leaving them without help, help those families by explaining what happened and helping them to integrate the magical world. These families should agree to respect the status of secrecy in order to integrate into our way of life." Tom explained.
"Mr. Riddle, your idea is nice but naïve. How do you expect the ministry to pay for all you are proposing?" Dolores interrupted.
"Miss Umbridge, I believe." Tom spoke and Dolores blushed. "First, is not Mr. Riddle, but Lord Slytherin. Second, I have numbers which will show that it is more expensive to send obliviators than to help de families."
"We will need to study the proposition, What will happen with your followers." Dumbledore asked.
"I don't have followers, I have friends and collaborators who help me," Tom said, sitting next to Severus.
"This year the head girl and the head boy started with the help of some of the prefects, two groups. The first teaches wizarding customs and traditions, and the second group teaches about the muggle word. I read the subject and I believe this will help to close the breach between the students' backgrounds," Severus said.
"I was not informed of this," Dumbledore said frowning.
"It was something the students made in their free time, and I believe it could be a good thing," Severus answered.
"It could be a good idea to see how this work over the year and if this goes well to introduce them as optional classes for next year," Brunhilde spoked.
"Where would you find the money to support this? "Dolores asked.
"The old families can donate the money to pay for all that would be needed, from teachers to supplies, or expenses for trips to the muggle world." Rodolphus said.
"Provided that these groups show us that they have some effects on the students, we could do something about it," Cornelius offered.
The talks about the changes on the curriculum started. Tom had a project with some changes to discuss that Dumbledore did not like a lot.
These changes would give more power to the board taking some of the decisions from the headmaster as the hiring of the teachers. It was a very difficult debate, but in the end, everybody remembered the boring lesson of History of the magic and the ineffective divination classes. The result was the board offering option to the headmaster who could have the final word on the hiring. But he would need to explain why he refused or accepted the candidate.
Some subjects would be optional after third year, like chemistry, physics, and some sports. Dolores made some noises about bringing muggles subjects to school, but Griselda remembered how she missed to have some sport besides quiditch at school, she only could run on the weekends.
Lesson in the origin of magic and the different kind of magics brought complains from Dumbledore and Dolores, who believes that children did not need to learn about the different ways of magic. Abraxas told them that children already read about it, but with a teacher teaching them, they would no investigated or their own, risking their life or magic. Cygnus closed his eyes, telling them about a distant cousin who lost his magic trying to experiment on his own. This closed the debate, and the class was sanctioned.
After many hours debating, everybody was tired, so the session was closed. Some of the members decided to retire to Riddle manor to enjoy a late diner before going home. Dumbledore excuse himself saying that he had to return to the school. Dolores told them that she needed to go home to rest.
The elves prepared a nice diner with light meats, fruits, and cheeses. Lucius brought some wines from his cellar, and Tiberius brought some firewiskey. The long table was full a finger food and everybody was sitting on the couches around the room.
"Riddle, you have a strong enemy now," Septimius said, sipping his wine.
"I believe you are right, even when I was a child, he did not like me at all. He never gave me a chance," Tom answered.
"He has many secrets," Ollivander said. "His wand is a very interesting one."
"Why would you say that?" Elphias asked.
"His wand is not the same I sold him many years ago. It's made of elder wood, and contains a Thestral tail-hair core," Ollivander told them, and some of them gasped.
"Do oy believe that he found the Elder Wand?" Kyle asked.
"I believe he did," Ollivander claimed.
"I remember when Gellert arrived at the school, they were very good friends," Elphias said.
"They were more than friends, I remember what my father told me," Abraxas said, smirking.
"The legend said that he won the duel and took Gellert's wand." Milton said.
"I feel that Dumbledore has an agenda that will not be good for many of us," Moody said.
"If you are Slytherin or you come from a pureblood family, you should pro0bably take care about your activities," Caesar said.
"Talking about families, I worry about my daughter and son in law," Ignatius shared.
"Do you feel the same, Ignatius?" Septimius asked and Ignatius nodded.
"Would you share your story with us, friend?" Andrew asked.
"Some of you may remember my Molly. She was always a spitfire, but she was a nice girl. Over the last time, she allied her family to Dumbledore and would not listen to reason," Ignatius spoke. "She even gave a task to her younger son, to become good friends with Potter's son."
"My brother, Arthur used to have plans for his live after school and he ended in a very bad job, doing whatever Molly tells him to do," Septimius added.
"How do they do to raise 7 children?" Perseus asked.
"The eldest two are already working, but they all have second, third handed things," Ignatius told them.
"We offered to help them, but they told us that they will not accept charity. I am his
brother and they are my nephews and nieces!" Septimius said putting his hand over his face.
"Maybe we need to investigate a little" Lucius thought. "Arthur was not the first of our year, but he was smart."
"We need a Slytherin approach to this problem," Tom said. "Griselda, could you check his file? If he has a better job, maybe they would not feel that they own anything to Dumbledore."
"I will check the file, but we will have to be carefully about this" Griselda affirmed.
"Dear Dolores will be a big problem for us," Sirius said.
"She was nasty at school" Kyle remembered.
"I remember that she tried to seduce me several times," Cygnus shuddered.
"I had the pleasure of having her naked on my bed waiting for me," Abraxas said, cringing.
"I believe she tried the same with the heir of the old families," Gareth spoke. "My father told me the same story."
"Caesar, is she really related to your family?" Amelia asked.
"We don't know. As we never created a tapestry s the Black or the Malfoy, we cannot know," Caesar answered.
"We could demand a heritage test from everybody ante the Wizengamot?" James asked.
"We need a good reason to do it," Cornelius said.
"Give me some days and I will find a way," Lucius said smirking.
