Bucky walked along the dock over to the Wilson's new up and remodeled ship. Ever since the take down of the Flag Smashers, Sam has been taking time out for this family while Bucky was just trying to remove the ghosts of his past. So far he was successful, but now comes the hard part; moving on. Steve went back in time to share a love life with Peggy, he'd presume and Sam was trying to be uncle of the year to his nephews. Bucky, as usual, was just trying to see where he fit in.

Back in the 40's, he was always the go-getter guy and relied on his looks to grab a date. He had his fair share and waving around his sensitivity card for Steve gave him a plus, even two or three different letters from gals back home while he was deployed. Now, after all he's been through, he kind of wished he had what the others had; love and family. He sighed as he took in the smell of fish and always that drift of someone cooking.

He turned and walked onto the ramp, he couldn't find Sam yet, but he knew he was somewhere on the boat. He just kept to himself and knew that when Sam heard him wandering around, he'd poke his head up. Bucky just decided to take in the view and the peacefulness that Sam seemed to always crave.

Sam had asked him to meet up with him whenever he could to discuss something about the future of Captain America, Bucky was on the first flight on the next day. He knew this was important to Sam and given Bucky's history with the Shield, he wanted to make sure that Sam was doing the right thing.

Sure enough, Sam came up from the lower deck, wiping his hands off from oil.

"Is there a problem?"

"Oh, no, man, just changing it out before the pipe gets clogged up" Sam waved it off, "Now that we fixed it, I don't ever want to see it broken again"

Bucky nodded, "That's good… so what was so urgent that you had to have me fly out to see you?"

"The Avengers" Sam only said.

"What about them?" Bucky shrugged, "They all went separate ways; Hawkeye is officially retired, the Hulk only wants to be in science from here on out, and Thor is searching for a new home for Asgard, not to mention the other three members have passed"

"Nah, man, I'm thinking next generation" Sam said, "You and me, we can decide who joins the team and be there in case something like Thanos returns"

"A group of people with unnatural abilities?" Bucky asked, "Again?"

Bucky couldn't help but let out a laugh and shake his head at that notion. He didn't want to admit it, but the separation between Iron Man and Captain America is what made the whole team vulnerable, it was also his fault they remained on non-speaking terms. Steve only did what was right for his friend and he was sure that Bucky would've done the same if it were the other way around, he was just not ready to deal with aliens again. Bucky sighed as he wondered if he could ever get into a war like that again. He turned and looked at Sam who was still watching him.

"Who are you thinking?" Bucky asked.

"Wanda might come-"

"Wanda's grieving" Bucky said, "She technically can't bury Vision because it's considered Stark tech"

"Spiderman-"

"Has to finish high school first," Buck said.

"Seriously?"

"Every soldier has to have a High School Diploma, at least" Bucky shrugged, "Plus, education was important to both Stark and Steve… we can't let him join without finishing his education first"

"Alright, then you pick someone but you have to agree, we need back-up just in case it's more than what we can deal with" Sam said.

Bucky's face went slack as he looked over the boat and down at the water. The sloshes of the waves reminded him of hearing the bathtub as her singing was echoing the halls. He knew she was making noise but he liked hearing her sing, especially Christmas carols, it made him feel a part of something. In that apartment, it was like nothing was out there in the world, just the two of them.

"There was one enhanced that I met before" Bucky cleared his throat, "In Romania"

"Would he enlist?"

"She" Bucky corrected, "And I think she might… once she punches me in the face"

"So you guys have history" Sam pieced together, "Then what happened?"

Bucky sighed, "Everyone came for me… and I never got to tell her I was alright"

"Well, that's deep" Sam said, "And stupid, if you were involved with this woman, you should've told her that you were alright"

Bucky did a side nod as it was one of the many things he regretted, he was only in Romania for four months but that was also the longest he ever stayed in one place. He had to admit, it was because of her… Lily. His memory filled with her smile as they sat on the floor of his apartment and ate as if they were camping out in the woods.

"A part of me wanted to call her" Bucky confessed, "But also, a part of me wished that she would get on with her life… find someone better. Not an assassin"

"How did you two meet?" Sam asked.

"In England, I was just on a walk in the dead of night when I heard whimpering, her boyfriend was beating her up" Bucky turned and looked to Sam, "I stepped in and pulled the bastard off of her, but not before he ripped my shirt and showed my arm. A couple days later, Hydra came with everything they got, and I thought I was going to be taken once again. Just when I thought everything was over, she appeared and grabbed onto me and the next thing I knew, I was in Romania. She teleported me away from being taken"

"And you stayed with her ever since?"

"I couldn't leave her, now Hydra knew that an enhanced subject protected me" Bucky said, "It would've been a death sentence on her part"

Sam nodded in understanding as he went over and took out a beer and handed it to Bucky. They both sat on crates as Bucky's mind replayed how fast it took Lily to take him out of harm's way.

"So she teleports" Sam nodded, "That's- that's good and it appears that she has a good conscience if she saved you"

Bucky gave Sam a look before he said, "No offense"

"Point is, I left her and should've taken the time out to tell her where I was" Bucky sighed, "She deserved so much more after what I put her through"

" You didn't want to see her move on… it's understandable" Sam said, "Does she have other abilities?"

"She can move things with her mind," Bucky explained, "But she's not as strong as Wanda, either one large thing or a few small things. Her most dangerous power is that she manipulates poison which she rarely uses"

"Poison?" Sam questioned.

Bucky took a swig out of his beer and nodded.

"Like I said, she'd rather get beaten half to death than use that power" Bucky said, "She had a heart of gold, that one"

"And you felt you didn't deserve her" Sam pieced together.

"How could I?" Bucky asked, "After all the shit I did, I thought she was crazy to fall in love with a guy like me"

"I say we go and see where she's at" Sam said, "To rekindle this lost romance, get a new member on our team, and to see her beat your ass"

Bucky looked to him, "Thanks"

"It'll be fun" Sam got up, "Now we just got to-"

"Romania" Bucky finished, "Still… she never left"

Sam turned and looked over his shoulder to Bucky who was staring off into space and gave a heavy sigh as he got up. Even though Bucky was trying to fight it, Sam could clearly see that Bucky still cared for the woman. It made sense, she was the first human interaction that showed support for him, maybe even loved him. Sam couldn't possibly imagine what kind of pain Bucky went through but he knew that Bucky deserved more. All he needed was an extra push and an excuse to go back to Romania.

"Then we'll head over there now," Sam said.

"Maybe we should think of someone else" Bucky got up.

"Buck… you need this" Sam said, "She deserves to know you're still alive"

"Well, if she didn't use her poison power now" Bucky rolled his shoulder, "She'll definitely have an excuse to use it"

"I'm kind of counting on it" Sam smiled, "I wanna see if this woman can pack a punch"

"Not funny" Bucky let out.

"Come on, man, you would've done the same with me" Sam laughed, "But I'm not nearly as stupid getting with a woman with special abilities, uh- uh, this I gotta see"

Bucky stopped and breathed out, "I hate you"
