Mighty Pups, Charged Up!
Humdinger's Revenge
Chapter 1
Mayor Humdinger sulked and groaned inside his secret lair. Nothing was going his way. He didn't get to keep the meteor he wanted, and he didn't get the superpowers he thought he was going to get. (To be fair, the Ladybird didn't get her wishes either.) His town's population was down to almost nothing, even though Foggy Bottom did still have "all the dentists." Well, almost; one dentist abandoned the city and moved down to Adventure Bay to open a new office there, where he and his hygienists could work with much more cheery patients who actually cared about their teeth. (Foggy Bottom's population had a history of bad hygiene.) And worst of all, the Humdinger family was now the most hated family in Foggy Bottom if not the entire globe. Even Mayor Humdinger's brother held a grudge against him and his nephew, Harold.
By contrast, Adventure Bay was becoming the place to be, especially when you consider the fact it had a big city counterpart, Adventure City. Why? Even if people didn't understand why its deputy mayor was a chicken, and thus, had her own statue of her (whether she knew it or not), it was at least a better option than Foggy Bottom. It had everything one could wish for: all different sorts of restaurants and businesses, and the world's greatest search and rescue squad: the PAW Patrol, 11 fearless dogs and a daredevil cat, all led by a tech-savvy boy genius named Ryder.
The town's popularity was also boosted from a popular comic book series featuring the patrol as their superhero selves, the Mighty Pups. They were still called the Mighty Pups even though it had a cat for a member, but for the purposes of the comic book, Wild Cat was not a superhero in the storylines; he was just a recurring character. In real life, Wild Cat had superpowers: super speed and supercharged acrobatic abilities, and he demonstrated this in many of his stunt shows.
But probably the most amazing thing that ever happened to Adventure Bay was the pair of meteors that hit the town. The first one was the one that gave them their superpowers to start with, but the second one gave them the ability to switch anatomies between regular pups that walked on all fours, and an anthro form where they stood on two feet, just like human beings.
For this reason, Ryder was checking some of the upgrades on equipment he made to account for their anthro forms, as well as figure out how being an anthro gave an advantage to the pups. "I haven't worked out all the details yet, pups," he said to his squad one day, "but one thing I know for sure is this: as regular pups, you know what your superpowers are, and you know what happens when you charge up. When in your anthro forms, you start with the powers you had all the time and the powers you get when you charge up, without needing to charge up. But when you are anthro pups and you charge up, then all of you share almost everybody's powers. Some powers are still unique to a specific pup, though; for instance, only Zuma can manipulate water, and only Rocky can use his amazing energy tools."
"But we can all fly, can't we?" Zuma asked.
"Yes. You're all also super strong and super speedy, and you can hear in ways only Tracker previously could, among other things. But this only happens when you are anthro pups, and you charge up."
"Got it, dude."
"What hasn't changed is your mighty vehicles except for the fact I had to account for your anthro forms, but they still do the same thing."
"Does Rex have a mighty vehicle?" Chase asked. "I don't want him to be left out."
"I don't recall; I don't remember everything you and I worked on, Chase. I think he just has his regular vehicle, but he is a Mighty Pup, and he can teleport and turn invisible. He can also summon holographic images. I don't know what happens if he charges up because that hasn't happened yet."
All the while, Mayor Goodway continued to run her town and occasionally panic over Chickaletta, her purse chicken, whenever the bird got into any sort of danger. The bird, however, being oblivious to everything around her, just went to sleep during any occasion she was in danger, even though some of the scenarios she found herself in were her fault. It never occurred to anybody, not even Goodway, that she liked just doing her own thing. It probably didn't occur to Chickaletta that she was a politician; Mayor Goodway considered her the deputy mayor, and thus, kept her in her purse.
Jealous of the town's popularity thanks to its comic book, Humdinger considered searching for and kidnapping the comic book's creator, and branding him a criminal. His KCC (Kitten Catastrophe Crew) disliked that idea, however. They did read the comic, but the more they dealt with the PAW Patrol in real life, the less they wanted superpowers of their own, and the less they wanted their boss dealing with the meteor. Humdinger still wanted superpowers, though, so that he could get revenge on the PAW Patrol. Yet the one time he got superpowers and became Mega Mayor Humdinger, it scared the dickens out of his kittens. (It also saddened him, and fueled his quest to find as many cats as he could.)
What was Humdinger going to do? Would it scare his kittens? Was it going to make Mayor Goodway have another panic attack? Would it destroy her tulips (again)? Was it going to involve Chickaletta? Did that chicken even care? Who knew?
