Chapter 1.

The 'Holy' Knight.

I am a holy knight of the order, I've been one since I was a child.

The order took me in at a young age after my father was taken off to be used as breeding stock, and my mother turned into one of those abominations.

Thankfully, my mother was slain, she was unable to do damage to anyone. And I am grateful they killed her before she did anything considered heresy, other than existing.

Unfortunately, my father was never found nor saved.

And I was fine with that because the order found me, they said I was soundly asleep as it all happened. I was six at the time.

They saw the potential in me, they knew I was destined for greatness.

Then I was brought to the church in Lescatie, where I was raised to be a monster killing machine, along with my brothers.

It was also quite common for children to lose their parents in this horrible world, thankfully the order was always in search of more soldiers.

Many of my brothers died due to the harsh training, it tested our will, our minds, bodies, and our faith in the chief god.

The chief god, of course, was the true god of this world, she created mankind in her image.

We, humans, were bestowed with an unwavering will, compassion, and unlike monsters, we were able to make decisions on our own. We never fell to our primal instincts.

I should also mention the nation of Lescatie, the second strongest nation, renowned for its ability to produce renowned heroes. Which all are devout followers of the chief god. It was basically the central capital for all heroes. The order was also stationed there, many high-ranking members were often there.

As Well as preachers, who spread the truth of the chief god, of her glory.

But of course, where there's truth, there's heresy.

Most humans fell easily to monsters, turning into abominations known as incubi.

Stronger, faster, and overall far more powerful than the average human.

Humanity would've been lost if not for the chief god's blessings.

Unfortunately, I never received a blessing.

Was I not worthy in the chief god's eyes?

I will never know, but that won't stop me from exterminating monsters.

But enough about me, I should explain what I'm doing.

Usually, I'd take tasks from the order, sometimes it's search and destroy, sometimes it's delivering messages from one powerful figure in the order to another.

When I'm not tasked, I go to the adventures guild. Taking monster extermination jobs.

most adventures were merely mercenaries searching for quick coin, they can be either allies or enemies depending on who's paying them.

Unfortunately, there was no adventures guild in Lescatie, so I always had to take a carriage to the nearest town with one.

"Hey, Knight! That'll be two gold pieces." The carriage owner would say to me in a friendly and inviting tone, I've known this man for quite some time.

"Right." curt and simple, talking wasn't one of my best skills.

I'd hand the man two gold pieces, getting inside the carriage.

The ride was quiet and peaceful, the man talked, which I tuned out.

I was focusing on listening in on the surroundings, looking around to see any differences with the path, and mostly looking out for monsters.

"-and then I said 'I'M NOT STICKING MY DICK IN THAT!' hah! Can you believe that?" the man said, talking about his time at the local bar.

"Interesting, tell me more." my voice was void of emotion or interest, as I was paying attention to the surroundings. I didn't want this man to bother me, so making him think I'm listening will do.

In my opinion, he's a good man, used to be a soldier, till he took an arrow to the knee.

As of now, he works as a carriage driver trying to earn ends meet for his family.

I've met his kids and wife a few times, they're a nice bunch.

Thankfully, they've never had to deal with the monsters of this world, and I pray to the chief god that they never have to

For the man's sake.

I'd shuffle out of my previous sitting place, getting near the front, seeing the path.

The man kept looking forward as he said "I know you're impatient, knight, but we'll reach the guild soon, you just rest back there." He was right, I thought, but I couldn't help it. When it came to monster-slaying, I couldn't wait.

so I kept looking out for anything, if any monster were to come, I would deal with them.

The knight took a step off the carriage, his foot digging into the muddy ground.

His eyes observed the area through his helmet, taking a quick read of the layout in the area. He's been here many times before, but it doesn't hurt to be ready and always cautious.

His armor was worn out, there were scratches all over it, bite marks, some of it was burned. Other than that a cloak of green that was attached to his neck, which worked as a hood.

Compact, tight to his body, he preferred agility over the defense.

But agility meant little if you didn't have the power to hurt enemies, to kill them.

For that reason, he had a single-handed longsword, which could also be used doublehanded. It was a simple chunk of metal, able to slice through flesh with ease.

He was ready physically and mentally to kill at any time, it was how the order taught him, and he was thankful.

Back to the task at hand, he headed to the guild, walking through the dirty streets of Erenest.

It was established after the upsurge of monsters in the area around the forest of the Magjour Wilds, and it handled most transactions between official citizens of lescatie and the travelers who cannot afford entrance into lescatie.

Members of the order like him were allowed free entry to lescatie, it was one of the benefits of joining the order.

The knight stopped in front of the guild, Inspecting it before entering.

The place was chock-full of people drinking, eating, and looking at multiple quest boards scattered around its interior.

Some of the patrons inside looked at him, before nervously going back to what they were doing, for whatever reason he wasn't the most liked in the guild.

He wordlessly walked towards one of the boards, inspecting the quest papers.

A pack of werewolves was spotted not so long ago in the Magjour Wilds, previous adventures were sent out and never returned.

REWARD

150 Gold Coin

Werewolves, strong legs, high stamina, extremely agile, but weak defense if you aim for their skin and not fur.

Dealing with one isn't hard, but multiple? That'll be a problem.

Not to mention the men, there's a chance they've turned into incubi, but he didn't count on it, Magjour Wilds isn't part of the demon realm, so their bodies probably don't have enough demonic energy in them to transform.

But they might've joined the pack, which means there's a high chance he'll have to fight them as well.

High-Risk, High-Reward.

Perfect then.

He ripped the paper off the board, heading to the front desk.

the knight reached the front desk, slamming the paper on it.

The receptionist in the front looked at him nervously, picking up the paper expecting it.

"Sir knight..you wish to take this quest?" she began, her voice was slightly filled with concern, she expected a party to take this particular quest due to the pack, not one man.

"Yes." the knight nodded in confirmation, he was sure, after, he's done this many times, he's prepared.

The receptionist looked at him saying "I recommend you get a party for this, the last group who took this didn't return." Her voice was steady and full of authority.

"Right." he'd lie through his teeth, he didn't need a party.

And it should shut her up.

She looked at him for a second, then stamped the paper.

"As usual, the reward will be given after you complete the quest and bring proof that you've indeed done it." she'd then put the paper under her desk.

The knight would turn, heading for the door.

The werewolf pack will be wiped out.

After all, he was a knight of the order.

It was his duty.

It was who he was, a protector of peace, and exterminator of the monsters that plague this world.

I plan to continue this, unlike my other stories, I will get to writing more.

This concept of a cold-blooded monster slayer in mge is pretty interesting to write, and hopefully read.
