The Water Hero: Tidal Wave!

Jamal Rose, aka RJ, manifested his quirk at the age of 12. Because of this, he is behind everyone else in terms of experience and power. After saving a family from a house fire, All Might deems him worthy to be his successor for his act of heroism and offers him his quirk One For All! Will RJ accept the burden of having two quirks, One for All and Water Manipulation?

Water Manipulation- Allows him to create objects out of water that are hard to disperse. He uses the water inside of his body to do this. He can also emit water out of his body through his hands but he rarely uses this.

"Jamal! Jamal! Wake up! You're going to be… late." said a tall, bald dark-skinned man with a full bushy beard and glasses named Jaxson Rose. " Again man?"

" Oh hey dad," said RJ who had freckles on both cheeks and a short afro hairstyle. He was leaning back in his chair playing video games.

" Uhh… sorry," said RJ, taking off his headphones.

" Please stop staying up all night during the week. You're walking to school today. I'm out."

" Don't do this to me…" said RJ as his father walked out of his room without looking back.

RJ hurried to put on his school uniform and headed out while eating some breakfast he quickly heated up before leaving. The adrenaline from running was keeping him awake as he remembered he hadn't slept in 24 hours. As he passed by the train station, on the way to school, he saw Mt Lady flying right above him as she was jumping towards a villain with a gigantification quirk.

" Canyon Cannon!" shouted Mt Lady hitting the villain with a powerful kick.

" Eh?" said Kamui Woods, who was preparing a super move.

" Today is my starring debut. A pleasure to make your ass-quaintance," said Mt Lady posing from behind with civilians taking pictures of her.

Mt Lady shrunk down to her original size and ran over to RJ, who had stumbled to the ground, was still shocked at what just happened.

" Sorry about that kid. I almost crushed you there. You okay?" asked Mt Lady, picking up RJ.

" Yep. I'm okay. Oh yeah, school!" said RJ back on his run to school. "Thanks for the view!"

" Hey!" shouted Mt Lady shaking her fist.

RJ finally arrived at Aldera Junior High and the hallways were empty as every student wasalready in their first period of classes. RJ went to his class and the teacher was already giving a lecture with all the students looking at him walking through the door of the classroom.

" Jamal. You're late again. For the fourth time this week. What's your excuse this time?" asked the teacher, stopping his lesson.

" I almost got crushed by the new pro hero Mt Lady. A legitimate excuse. Not even lying about that. Here's a picture," said RJ showing a picture of Mt Lady, from below, on his phone.

" Perv!" said one of the girl classmates.

" I guess you're not lying this time. Strange. Go take your seat and please delete that photo," said the teacher.

The teacher continued with his lecture about how everyone in the class was applying to a hero course. A student shouted from out of his seat how he was the only guy in the class that could become a hero and be the number one hero with the other classmates getting mad at him. The student's name was Katsuki Bakugo and he said he applied to the best hero academy U.A. The teacher mentioned that RJ also applied to U.A. catching Bakugo off guard.

" Haha! How do you expect to get into U.A. Waterboy! You're not even close to my level!" shouted Bakugo slamming his hand into RJ's desk.

" Get outta my face man. Don't have the energy today for this," said RJ, flicking Bakugo's forehead.

" YOU LITTLE SHIT!"

" WE'RE THE SAME HEIGHT!

" If you two fight again, you both won't be going to a hero academy! Now sit down!" shouted the teacher.

Bakugo and RJ let go of each other's collars and sat down at their desk. After a long day of classes and RJ trying to stay awake in all of them, school was over and RJ had to walk back home again half asleep. As he walked outside of the school building, Bakugo was waiting for him and called him out.

' Fucks sake," thought RJ.

" Don't go to U.A. You'll just embarrass yourself," said Bakugo.

" What? Look there's nothing you can do that will stop me," said RJ while yawning.

" You really think you will get into U.A. with that weak quirk of yours?"

" No. That's why I'm training up until the entrance exam. Watch you back." said RJ walking away from Bakugo.

" Fine. We'll see at the exam. Only the strongest get into U.A. Caterpillar Eyebrows.

" Haha, that's a new one."

RJ stopped at the grocery store on the way home to buy a water container which he buys every day on his way back home. As he was walking outside he heard people screaming and cars being flipped over. As he looked over at the commotion, he saw a sludge villain rampaging and it quickly looked at him.

" You're a perfect host!" shouted the villain.

" What? Why me!?" shouted RJ dropping his water container and running through a nearby alleyway.

RJ was running through the neighborhood, being chased by a sludge villain, hopping over fences, running through alleyways, and throwing water shurikens behind him at the villain. RJ ran into a dead end and the villain was slowly moving towards him.

" Water doesn't work on me, kid. Just stay still. This will hurt… A LOT!" shouted the sludge villain before being interrupted.

" Don't worry young man. I will save you. Why? Because I AM HERE!" said the number one hero All Might heroically.

' All Might!?' thought RJ seeing All Might for the first time in person.

" Get outta the way All Might!" shouted the sludge villain dashing towards All Might.

" Texas Smash!" shouted All Might sending a blast of wind pressure from his punch; blowing the sludge villain away.

" Just one punch?" said RJ seeing the villain dissolve into a puzzle of sludge.

All Might put the sludge villain in a water bottle and walked over to RJ who was surprised that he was saved by the number one hero out of all people in the world.

" T-thank you so much! All Might!" shouted RJ, bowing his head nervously.

" Don't worry about it, young man! Make sure you get home safely!" said All Might waving and getting ready to jump into the air.

Before All Might could jump RJ grabbed his arm catching his attention. All Might turned around and saw a serious face on him.

" What does it take to become the number one hero… All Might!" said RJ with a serious tone.

" Sorry young man. I have places to…" said All Might before being interrupted.

" My quirk is Water Manipulation! My quirk manifested three years ago! They said I was the first to ever develop a quirk past the age of 4. Some say it's a blessing I actually got my quirk after all that time but I have always seen it as a joke. Why now out all times I told myself when it manifested after she…" said RJ almost tearing up.

" You feel like you're behind everyone else, huh? Ha, you were just like me when I was younger. I was behind everyone else at one point too."

All Might turned around and crouched towards RJ level to hear him out.

" Who is this she?" asked All Might.

" My mom. She died a week before my quirk manifested. A… villain got her. She always told me that I should just keep moving forward in life whether or not my quirk manifested or not. It was like a big middle finger when it happened. She never got to see it," said RJ wiping his tears and chuckling a bit.

" Are you still moving forward like she said? You're still here right? Listen, anybody can become a great hero with any quirk. Do you want to become a hero? It's a matter of putting in the work to get there. It's not easy being a hero, you know."

" I applied to U.A. but I know there are students there who have more experience than me. I just wanted to try out if I could make it into a hero academy."

" That's your problem. You believe everyone else is better than you. You have no confidence in yourself. Instead of trying out the entrance exam, you have to be determined to pass the test. Once you get into the mindset, your path to becoming a hero becomes much clearer. Maybe even the goal of becoming the number one hero."

All Might stood up and reached for a fist bump from RJ.

"You can do it. I hope we can see each other again. You're special. Remember that." said All Might, jumping into the air and dashing away.

" Thank you for saving me again!" shouted RJ. "... Crap! I forgot to get an autograph!"

RJ walked out of the alleyway and got a phone call from his father. Before RJ could tell him about his encounter with All Might, his father told him he would be home late because he was busy with work, so he should go get something for dinner before he got home. Not wanting to bother him, RJ hung up the phone and headed to a nearby store. After getting some ramen noodles from the store, he heard an explosion nearby and some heroes running towards the sound of it. RJ followed behind to see what was causing the large commotion. Buildings were burning up and the sludge villain from before was sending explosions all around.

' What the! How did he escape!?' thought RJ looking at the sludge villain, bigger than before. 'Crap. Did he somehow escape while All Might was talking to me? I gotta do something.'

RJ ran around to one of the buildings on fire and put some of the fire out using his water quirk. He made sure not to let a pro hero see him using his quirk. He saw an old man banging on a window and RJ quickly broke the window and pulled the old man out of the building.

" Thank you, young man. There's a family in the next building over," said the old man.

" Don't worry. I'll get them!" said RJ rushing to the next building.

RJ, after putting some of the fire out, opened the door and saw a family of four on the floor, almost passed out from the smoke. As RJ was first picking up the kids, the building started to rumble and he quickly laid both kids a safe distance outside from the building. As he was picking up the parents the building started to rumble and a piece of the building fell on top of RJ and the wife and husband. RJ struggled to keep the piece of roof above his head while trying to keep his breath with smoke surrounding him.

' I'm losing my breath. I need to keep this up no matter what!' thought RJ, trying to keep the piece of rubble from crushing him.

" Young man! It's me!" shouted a guy looking like a skeleton. "I'll help out!"

' Do I know him? Well, he is helping me.'

' Shit. I don't have the strength to lift this,' thought the man. " Kid eat my hair!"

" Eh!? What are you talking about in this situation!" shouted RJ with a disgusted look on his face.

" It's me! All Might! I'll explain later. Hurry!

RJ, confused at the skeleton-looking man saying he was All Might, took the hair from All Might's hand using his mouth and swallowed it. As soon as it digested, RJ felt his strength coming back and a new feeling he never felt before. RJ started to stand with the rubble on his head and threw it into the air, thousands of feet into the sky, with unspeakable force.

" What was that just now?" said RJ looking at his hand with orange lightning sparkling around them.

" Hurry! The civilians!" shouted All Might picking up the wife.

" Right!"

All Might and RJ carried the wife and husband out of the building before it completely collapsed and laid them on the ground. RJ turned around to the skeleton formed All Might as he was turning back to his hero form.

" All Might. What was that form? What was in that ha…" said RJ before being put to sleep from a slight chop to the neck from All Might.

" Sorry about this kid. I'll explain later," said All Might rushing towards where the sludge villain was.

All Might stepped in front of the sludge villain catching everyone's attention and the kid that was being consumed by the sludge villain. It was Bakugo and his explosion quirk was being used by the villain to keep the pro heroes away.

" Clever villain slipping away after I was having that talk with the young hero. Prepare yourself! I'll save you, young man! DETROIT SMASH!" shouted All Might blowing the sludge villain away with wind pressure from his punch again and catching Bakugo before he fell.

" All Might?" said Bakugo, still coughing up sludge.

Everyone was cheering on All Might who also brought the family and RJ over who was still unconscious. All Might thanked the other pro heroes for their work and left, jumping into the air.

' RJ?' thought Bakugo, looking at him lying on the ground.

" What? Where's All Might?" said RJ waking up.

" Woah! You okay kid!?" asked the pro hero, Death Arms, while picking him up.

" Yeah. I'm okay. Where's All Might?"

" He just left. We need to get you to a hosp…" said Death Arms before being interrupted.

" I'm fine! Really! Please take care of that family!" shouted RJ running away to find All Might in the city.

" Hey…" said Bakugo trying to get RJ's attention before he ran off.

After a while, RJ gave up on finding All Might and headed back home. RJ was still wondering what that power he had for a couple of seconds and why All Might was in a skinny form. As he was still thinking about what happened, All Might appeared in front of him as he was turning a corner.

" I am here!" shouted All Might in his hero form.

" Why did you knock me out!? What was that power!? What was that form!?" shouted RJ squirming around.

" Shh! Too loud. I am here to answer your questions."

" I was looking for you. How did you even know I was here?

" That was easy. You know why? Because I am All Mi…" said All Might before spitting out blood and turning into his skinny form; surprising RJ..

All Might looked around to see if there were any people nearby but no sound could be heard, signaling that they were alone.

" That power you used was my quirk. One for All. It can be transferred by taking in DNA from the wielder," said All Might stretching out his arms dramatically.

" Your quirk? Wait, I have your quirk now?" asked RJ.

" No. I knocked you out before the transfer could be completed. You only used it for a split second. I couldn't go into my hero form at the moment so I gave you my quirk just for that moment."

All Might then explained about his true form after his fight with a villain a couple of years ago that wasn't made public. He showed a big scar on his stomach that he got from the fight. He said because of the injury, he can only be a hero for a couple of hours a day.

"As I mentioned before, you're a special kid. I saw you helping the old man and family out of the burning building. I rushed over to help with the little strength I had at that moment. You don't give yourself a ton of credit. To rush in like that without thought, I think I found my successor," said All Might with a smile on his face.

" Successor?" asked RJ.

" What you did was dangerous but you didn't hesitate at all. I was impressed by your calmness in that situation. You told me about how you were behind everyone else. So I want to help you out. With my quirk, I think you cannot just become the number one hero but the greatest hero who ever lived."

RJ stepped back and was shocked that All Might, the number one hero, out of all people told him that he can become the greatest hero ever.

" W… what do you mean?" asked RJ nervously.

" With my quirk, your water quirk will become even stronger than before while also having complete control of my quirk also. Will you accept ONE… FOR… ALL!?" said All Might, holding out his hand to RJ.

"...No…" said RJ, surprising All Might.

"Eh?"

Here's a new story! I'm going to do a complete redo of my previous story, "All Might's Successor with Two Quirks?" I wanted to do this as I was not happy with how the previous story turned out. I know some of you wanted to see what happens in the Overhaul arc of that story but hopefully, we can get back to that point of the story soon. I have better plans for this story as this was a completely different chapter 1 compared to the last story's. I wanted to get this out of the way. This story will not have lemons. If there are ever any lemons it will be in their third years if I get to that point. You can search me up on Pixiv and Twitter if you want to see some of my MHA hentai artworks at RJamal and RJamalNsfw. I know those were the most popular chapters in the previous story. I don't feel it is right to do them in their first years. The romance aspect will still be there with the same girls so you'll have to guess who RJ ends up with in the end lol. This story will be more fleshed out and was debating if Deku should be in this story as a villain. Not entirely sure so don't expect it. Hopefully, you guys enjoy this new story and see RJ grow into a great hero. More info about RJ's past will be revealed later on. Some of you already know a bit about it so I'll spice it up a bit. The question is, is he really turning down One For All after experiencing its power?
