Going Down
AN: This is my first fic and isn't intended to be very long. It explores what could have happened in Season 5: Episode 1 of The Clone Wars if Hondo's rocketeer had destroyed the escape pod, rendering it useless, thus leaving Savage and Maul to endure the landing and confront Hondo's pirates and Kenobi.
Disclaimer: I do not own Lucasfilm or Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Al rights go to George Lucas.
Obi-Wan POV
Hondo raised his blaster and fired at the closing doors, his men following his lead. He gestured for his rocketeer to fire on the ship. His man ran forward, took aim at the ship lifting off, and fired, scoring a direct hit on the back tail of the ship, where the escape pod would be.
That'll stop them, I thought to myself.
...
Savage POV
"Our engines have been compromised, along with the escape pod," my brother said. "We're going down with the ship, brother!"
"Very well," I replied, not very focused because that damn Kenobi and sliced my arm off with his blasted lightsaber.
As we spiraled out of control to the desert of Florrum, I realized that I may not survive this. I looked over at my brother, who had taught me more than Dooku or Ventress ever could.
"It was an honor, brother," I said to him.
"Blast that, we're going to live, imbecile! I have a plan."
Maul used the Force to lift us both out of our seats and towards the back of the ship. We hit the desert sand and were flung forward, but Maul's strategy worked. The Force cushioned us and we survived. I felt the Force cushion around me drop, and I fell to the floor, banging my stump of an arm against several switches on the wall. My brother attempted to rise, forgetting that Kenobi had, once again, severed his lower appendage. He fell against the pilot's chair and, as I rose to help him, he flipped the switch that opened the bay doors. I supported his weight as we half-walked, half-stumbled out into the desert sun.
"That blasted Kenobi and those pirates will be here soon," Maul said. "We must hurry and get back to their base."
"I am confused, brother. Why would we want to go back to their base?"
"Because, we need to steal a ship if we are to get off this planet, and that place is the only place that will have a ship for miles. Now, we must hurry for we cannot go straight back to their base, for Kenobi will be coming to see if we survived the crash, so we must go around them, and that will take longer."
"Very well, brother. Let us get going then."
...
Obi-Wan POV
"Well Hondo, I can see the crash site, and I don't sense them, so either they are dead, or-"
"Or they have headed back to camp! Quickly, we must stop them!" Hondo interrupted.
"Slow down, Hondo. We must first make sure they are dead."
"We can't waste time going to the ship, if you say they aren't there, then they aren't there, it's plain and simple."
"Very well, but at least send two of your men to check it out," I reasoned.
"Okay. You and you," he said, pointing at two of his men. "Take a radio and search the ship. Report back when you are finished. If I don't hear from you, then I will assume you are dead and those brutes somehow duped Kenobi."
The two men ran off towards the still-smoking ship.
Hondo turned back to me. "Let's go, Kenobi. We must make it back in time before they take a ship and leave the planet."
...
Savage POV
As we limped across the desert, the pirates' camp came into view on the horizon.
"Hurry brother, we are almost there!" Maul said, renewing his energy.
As we descended upon the camp, we made a mad dash for the nearest ship. I flipped several switches and then Maul sat down beside me. We took off to go regroup and form another plan for exacting revenge upon Kenobi
