Kaleb is helping Kol because Song would die with him and he doesn't want Silas to wake up and the other side to collapse. And my personal opinion isn't that vampires are abominations of nature, nature is the most powerful force in the universe, if vampires shouldn't have existed then nature wouldn't have allowed Esther to create them. Keep in mind that witches get their power from nature so theoretically nature could stop their spells. Vampires have been around for 1000 years by this point, the world has adapted to their presence and they are needed for balance now. Finn only turned Sage so I would guess that at most a little over a thousand vampires died with him. Kol on the other hand has turned more people than he could probably count and those people have turned people and those people have turned people and so on, so Kol dying would result in a significant part of the vampire population dying with him. Anyway the whole Malivore thing you mentioned isn't relevant now, Legacies is so far away it isn't even funny. This story will eventually transition into just being in the Originals because Klaus in the next few chapters will off screen meet Hayley and it ends with her pregnant with Hope. And Jeremy is dead but Bonnie will most likely bring him back. Haven't decided yet. Kaleb didn't take any of Elena's blood because her being a vampire means her blood isn't as useful anymore except for what the Travelers needed the doppelgangers for, so he didn't bother. Only Tom Avery's blood would have any potency anymore as he's the only one who is human still.
Wiccan-demiurge: Pairings are still undecided and romance won't really be a focus but it's not off the table. I could see it happening.
I don't own Vampire Diaries, I only own any OC's and Kaleb's unique plotline.
A half hour later saw all them sitting at the dining table in awkward silence as Kaleb ate breakfast while he and Kol pretended they didn't have a heart to heart and Song was drinking a glass of blood while pretending she didn't eavesdrop on them.
"You're a reincarnation?" Kol blurted out remembering Kaleb mentioning it and now bursting with curiosity.
Kaleb looked startled at being addressed before he finished chewing and swallowed before nodding, "Yes. It's not as fun as it sounds. Full of lots of sleepless nights and vivid dreams that feel like nightmares when it's about a negative experience in the previous life."
"Your parents told me that when you were little they felt helpless as they couldn't help you with it. You'd wake up screaming and crying and they would have to stay up all night with you to comfort you. You were close to being dangerously sleep deprived apparently." Song remarked, remembering the conversation she had with Alexander and Cecilia about a year after they had met.
"I am forever thankful for the parents I received in this life." Kaleb acknowledged after finishing the last bit of his breakfast. He quickly cleaned it all up and looked at the two vampires, "C'mon this conversation is best had in the living room."
"We need to find where Silas is and get there and shove the cure down his throat before my family manages to finish the map on the hunter since they will have undoubtedly resurrected him rather than find another hunter." Kol started.
Song and Kaleb glanced at each other then stated simultaneously, "Nova Scotia."
Kaleb continued for them, "Or more specifically an island 200 miles off the coast of Nova Scotia. Unfortunately I don't know where specifically so we are going to have to use some guess work or kidnap Atticus Shane I believe it was? He could lead us there and then we could just kill him once he outlives his usefulness. And even if the Mystic Falls gang manages to resurrect Jeremy Gilbert, he won't be one of the five anymore. I made sure it would move on since I am unable to destroy the order entirely. So he won't be able to lead them to the Island."
Song looked over at Kaleb calculatingly, "Would Bonnie Bennett be able to break the doppelbitch's curse and resurrect the hunter?"
"It's tied to my blood. Only myself or a close blood relation is able to break the doppelganger's curse." Kaleb replied, his eyebrow creasing in thought.
"Exactly."
"If it's tied to my blood then there is a slight possibility that Bonnie Bennett could break it as we are second cousins. My mother is a Bennett." Kaleb replied, shrugging. It was a hit or miss honestly with magic tied to bloodlines. It could be specifically tied to the Westphall bloodline or tied to his bloodline in general, as there are things that he was unable to do just because he had the Westphall family magic over the Bennett. "As for resurrecting Jeremy Gilbert, If she really wants to she could, he died as a hunter of the Five so he went to the Other Side. Plus they should have his body which would make it even easier, unless of course it ends up destroyed in a house fire."
"Should I even ask Kaleb?" Song questioned in exasperation over the last comment.
"No."
"Okay then. Just wondering."
"I thought Bonnie Bennett was the last Bennett witch after her mother was turned into a vampire?" Kol asked leaning forward eagerly, he'd always like Bennett witches but he'd found this latest generation lacking due to their prejudice that usually wasn't present in them.
"No." Kaleb snorted, "Sheila Bennett, Bonnie's grandmother was my maternal grandmother's sister and she was estranged from the rest of the family. I actually came to Mystic Falls on my grandmother's instructions, after Great Aunt Sheila died, to offer Bonnie the chance to come with me to Berlin, where my grandmother lives, to learn magic. But I saw that the doppelganger had her claws in her and my grandmother told me to leave and not get involved. Lucy Bennett was also ordered to not get involved with her after they coincidentally crossed paths when Lucy worked briefly for Katherine Pierce."
Ophelia Bennett was extremely displeased that Cousin Lucy had gotten involved with Katherine Pierce when all Bennett children have been taught for centuries which vampires to always avoid dealing with and which they could trust to not double cross them. And the list was always updating. Katherine Pierce was right up there with Aurora De Martel in vampires to avoid due to her tendency to 'tie up loose ends.' Even Niklaus Mikealson would be trusted before Katherine Pierce because he at the very least has proven that he won't kill those he works with unless they threaten him, his family, or double cross him.
"Ordered?" Kol echoed, "I thought the Bennett Coven hasn't been active since the 1700s?"
Kaleb shook his head, "It went underground. It still exists. My grandmother is the coven leader. My sister and I technically aren't a part of the Bennett Coven because we have a different last name and mostly different family magic, but we still listen to our grandmother even though she can't order us to do anything, Our grandfather on our father's side on the other hand is able to order us around since he is the leader of the Westphall Coven."
"You're grandparents on both sides have to be the best witches I've ever met. They've never treated me like I was an abomination for being a vampire." Song commented while idly inspecting her nails.
"Yes, the Westphalls." Kol mused, "Your family has always been different to most other witch families based on the fact that men and women are typically on the same power field and the Coven Leader usually always passed to the eldest regardless of gender."
"Yeah." Kaleb acknowledged, "My aunt Helena is next in line to be Coven Leader followed by her daughter. We are different based on that. I know that a man can't be the leader of the Bennett Coven and men in the Bennett family are rarely as powerful as the women. My uncle Winston is considered powerful on the power scales but compared to my mother, well she blows him out of the water. I won't ever be as powerful as my mother and my father is nowhere as powerful as her either. My sister and I happen to be the most powerful witches of our generation in the Westphall family due to the infusion of Bennett blood into our genetics. We also have more raw power than anyone else in the coven."
Of course that wasn't entirely true. If the one next in line was proven to be a bad candidate for the job or didn't want it then anyone in the coven was allowed to be a prospective candidate to be the next coven leader.
"The Westphall's placed a lot of emphasis on efficiency over raw power from what I remember." Kol stated in thought.
Kaleb nodded, "Yes that's how my sister and I were taught. Efficiency over raw power, we have both though unlike others in our family, and our mother taught us the Bennett way of performing magic and rituals." He didn't really know why he was just giving all this information out, oh wait yes he did, he was stalling to talk about their plan because in truth he and Song had no plan aside from winging it.
"I noticed that the Bennett witch in Mystic Falls seemed to overpower a lot of her spells." Kol said remembering how she broke the link between himself and his siblings.
Kaleb shrugged, "Aunt Sheila didn't start teaching her until she was a junior in high school apparently, I'm guessing she bound her magic and it didn't start coming out until then. She died opening the tomb that Emily Bennett spelled shut in 1864 and didn't get to finish teaching Bonnie how the Bennetts did everything, how they used a lot of raw power but had a lot of control over it or even their traditions and family rituals. She's had to teach herself everything and it sure didn't help that she let a bunch of dark spirits give their power to her last year."
"Dark Spirits? The witch spirits in the witch house are dark?"
"I'd have to examine it myself to be sure but considering the extremely violent way in which they died, I believe they are. Dark Spirits are extremely vindictive, bitter, and not to mention cruel over their deaths especially towards living witches since they are jealous over the fact that we are still alive while they are dead. Of course not all dark spirits are bad, I was taught that some witches who die violently become dark but care for their descendants and won't abuse them or treat them callously."
"If there are so many other Bennett witches then why didn't any of them fight back when my mother was drawing power from the Bennett line?" Kol asked a question that had been on his mind since the conversation started.
Kaleb snorted, "Your mother was delusional, no offense, she wasn't drawing power from the entire Bennett line, my grandmother felt something try to grasp at her power and firmly cut it off from every Bennett alive that is apart of the Bennett Coven, and without drawing power from the Bennetts who were alive, your mother was unable to draw power from Bennetts long dead like Emily or Ayanna."
Song laughed, "I love your grandmother so much Kaleb, she's so badass."
Kol's mouth dropped briefly in shock, "So my mother didn't have enough power to kill us?"
"No. I mean she had more power than normal by drawing on the moon that night and Bonnie's and her mother's power but not enough to kill all of you. Also it seems she's working with a bunch of dumb ass spirits on the other side to end all vampires and to be forgiven for her sins." Kaleb rolled his eyes, "She's so fucking dramatic but I see where you're family gets it from, though it would be nice if some of my Bennett ancestors on the other side would just destroy those spirits but apparently they'd rather watch us like a reality show."
"Why would the Bennetts on the other side be able to destroy spirits on the other side?" Kol asked in slight confusion but there was mostly eagerness in his voice.
"A Bennett created the other side long before my mother's family was called Bennetts so they get a bit more privileges than other witches on the other side." Kaleb explained. Seriously though, it would be nice if Tessa would get off her fucking ass and help her descendants but no she'd rather be obsessed with Silas' ass even though he didn't fucking want her.
A throat clearing got both men's attention and they both turned to Song, "Not that this little witchy bonding session isn't adorable-" She ignored Kol's glower and Kaleb's splutter, "but we have a more important thing to do, like make a plan to kill Silas and then track down Katherine Pierce and rip her black heart from her body."
"Gee aren't you bloodthirsty." Kaleb remarked sarcastically.
Song scoffed, "Don't act like you don't want Aya Al-Rashid dead at your feet after what that bitch did to your sister."
"Point." Kaleb agreed.
"So the plan for Silas?" Kol asked looking as if he wanted to ask but instead chose to focus on the more relevant matter.
"We are gonna wing it."
There was a moment of silence before Kaleb groaned, "We weren't supposed to tell him like that Song!"
"What!" Kol exclaimed, "We are going to go after the most powerful immortal to exist, possibly one of the most powerful witches in existence, and you two don't have a fucking plan?" He sounded incredulous and Kaleb winced as it sounded much worse once it was said out loud.
"Our plans have a tendency to explode in our faces so we decided it would be better to wing it." Kaleb weakly explained feeling anxious from the flat and unamused stare the Original vampire was giving them.
"Isn't that the truth." Song agreed, "Remember Prague? Adelia almost ended up dead and you got caught in an explosion while I got my neck snapped and injected with a fuck ton of vervain ."
"I could never forget how terribly that went Song." Kaleb said darkly remembering how panicked he'd been over his sister almost dying due to his plan. His stupid plan. He should have known better than to make such a plan like that when they still didn't have all the information but they were in a hurry to get the grimoire before anyone else and they suffered for it.
Song winced for her thoughtless comment. She did have a habit of speaking before thinking.
"So an island 200 miles of the coast of Nova Scotia? How exactly are we meant to find his resting place without a map?" Kol deadpanned wanting to get back on track though he was obviously curious about what had happened in Prague.
"Who said we don't have a map?" Kaleb smirked with a glint of mischief in his eyes, "We aren't exactly incompetent. Jeremy Gilbert wasn't the only member of the Five. There are others and we have one in our possession."
"You managed to subdue one of the Five?"
"Yes. His name is Galen Vaughn. My Uncle Winston approached him a year ago under the pretense of wanting to help finish the mission that his ancestor started." Kaleb started pleased that almost every move he'd made over the last year and a half was coming into use.
"The mission your ancestor started?" Kol questioned, extremely curious with an eager look in his eyes.
"The witch who created The Five and the Silver Daggers was Lucrezia Bennett, one of my many ancestors." Kaleb explained, "So when my uncle approached the hunter, Mr. Vaughn was all too eager to help him once he found out that Uncle Winston was a descendent of the witch who created The Five."
"This is all very intriguing but it doesn't matter if the mark on the hunter isn't complete."
"It is complete. Winston helped him track down and kill enough vampires to complete the mark, a lot less than what was originally needed due to some spell work that Kaleb here calls ingenious." Song piped up from where she was spread out on the carpet floor.
"Uncle Winston is known for his genius in his ability to modify or create spells. He managed to devise a way to lessen the number of vampires needed to die to complete the mark. Once it was completed my mother, grandmother, and a number of the most powerful practitioners in the Bennett Coven subdued him and kidnapped him." Kaleb's eyes were gleaming and he seemed as pleased as a cat given well deserved attention. "Galen Vaughn is currently under lock and key in New York where he is guarded by my parents, my sister, and uncle."
Kol's eyes narrowed, "Why are the Bennetts so interested and invested in getting rid of Silas?" It seemed they had been planning to get rid of Silas for years.
"You're kidding right?" Song asked incredulously though she was ignored.
"You can't honestly think the Bennetts want Silas to escape, destroy the other side, cause hell on earth, and get away with screwing over a Bennett witch do you?" Kaleb asked in amusement, his blue eyes all but showing that he found Kol's suspicion understandable but humorous. "Your suspicion is adorable but not needed."
Rather than admit his paranoia, Kol instead focused on the questions that he had though he found that he rather liked being called adorable by Kaleb strangely, "You actually do have a plan then if you have a member of The Five ready to lead us to Silas's tomb even if you say you don't have one."
Kaleb rolled his eyes, "I meant we are going to have to wing it once we set foot on the island."
"Also I'm surprised you're Bennett family members are so willing to lie, cheat, manipulate, and I will say murder since you mentioned getting rid of Atticus Shane once he was no longer needed. Bonnie Bennett was always extremely judgmental from what I've observed of her and seen in my interactions with her."
"So many witches forget that Self Preservation is the first law of nature. Everything from the smallest insect to the largest sea creature looks out for itself first and foremost." The British man mused as he stroked his slight stubble, "To protect our family we would do far worse than lie, cheat, and murder, Kol. My father's family is the same and would be here too if it wasn't for other pressing matters that require their attention."
Kaleb honestly found it amusing when vampires were surprised by how he had no problem killing and that he was pretty damn selfish. He sure as hell wasn't going to spend his second opportunity at life being a servant to nature and keeping the balance when Nature didn't need help keeping it's balance. And he wasn't going to hate vampires for their vampiric nature because it wasn't something they could control and felt too close to racism to him.
"Kol's going to take away my chance to be human!" Rebekah exclaimed, "I'm going to kill the witch and vampire he is working with. Who'd have thought there would be more bloody idiots who believe in the nonsense Kol was talking about."
Niklaus was ignoring her; she'd been ranting for the past hour and was just repeating the same things, just in different words. She'd been making threats towards the witch and vampire who saved their brother's life ever since she found out that Kol was going to shove the cure down Silas's throat. Klaus found that he personally didn't mind that if Silas did in fact turn out to be real as it would keep Rebekah from being stupid and taking the cure which he was sure she'd instantly regret. Though he did wish he could shove it down the Doppelganger's throat but unfortunately he couldn't.
The Original Hybrid was pensive though as he thought on how his little brother almost died all because they kept underestimating the young ones in Mystic Falls. He was extremely enraged at the thought that one of his family almost died again. As much as Klaus hated to admit it, he'd much rather his family all be alive then be able to make Hybrids without worry of running out of doppelganger blood. He had no idea where his brother was currently, his phone call had been brief and Kol had ignored all demands to tell them his location or to come back to Mystic Falls. Klaus did figure out though that the vampire was someone Kol turned so he deduced that their motives were pure simple survival, though why a witch would help an Original vampire is a lot harder to predict. Maybe they wanted power. Or the favor of the Originals. It was even possible that they simply believed in the legend that Kol believed in and wanted to ensure that it stayed a legend.
Klaus stood up and left the Mikealson mansion, ignoring Rebekah as she called out to him, until his brother came back, he was going to find out who was aware of the plan to kill his brother, round them up, and keep them locked up for Kol to decide what would be done with them. Hopefully that would be enough of an apology.
And that's the end to this chapter with a brief look into what's happening in Mystic Falls. The conversation between our trio was way longer than I intended and I had to shorten it as it was even longer initially.
I've never written Klaus Before so I'm kind of worried I didn't do him justice.
Rebekah might seem like she doesn't care that Kol almost died which isn't true, she cares, she just cares more that he's going to deprive her of the cure to immortality. Rebekah never cared for Kol as much as Elijah or Niklaus, in my opinion at least. I mean Kol died and she shed a few tears and then worked with the people who helped kill him without batting an eye. If it was Elijah or Niklaus who was killed then she would have slaughtered them all.
To those of you who follow my other story, Long Life, I'm currently struggling to write the next chapter so I unfortunately have no idea when it'll be out.
