* Seto Kaiba and all official cards that made an appearance in here belong to Konami/UDE and Kazuki Takahashi.
* Memoir is the character belong to me.
Within an abandoned research building, Memoir, the mysterious warrior in her Arabic outfit with knight-like metal full-armored gauntlets, approached the table that was loaded with various cards. She looked over the table and picked up some of the cards. Her green hair swayed as she switched her attention to the next card to pick it up. When she picked up the black-bordered card, she blinked and focused on it, not realizing it. Bringing it closer to her, she studied it and picked up that it was an 'Excess Monster' as it was on the text. She blinked and set her yellow eyes on the picture, which showed a full-armored man crossing his arms. She hoisted her black cat-like ears as soon as she picked up the sound of footsteps behind her. Realizing that someone was approaching her, she turned her head and looked over her shoulder to see the only survivor of the fallen world; Seto Kaiba. He wore his black dress with white overcoat and a duel disk on his left arm.
"That's an Excess Monster - from what I can tell when I fought them, the possessed duelists, it was used as an extra body power. And from what I have seen, they used at least two monsters with the same Level to summon that monster. Have you learned how to use them yet?" he gave the details.
The seedrian's eyes met the survivor's and she then responded, "No. This is the first time I see this type of card."
"I see," Seto nodded and turned away from her, leaving her to gain what was left of the cards on the table.
Memoir picked up the cards that she believed would be fitting into her new deck and she straightened her deck up. The same card that she studied a moment ago was now resting in front of her deck. She narrowed her eyes as she noticed that the black stars were sitting on the opposite side from the spot where the red stars would originally be. She turned around and lifted her attention to the survivor.
He propped his palms on his hip and shook his head, "If you need to grasp the understanding behind the 'Excess Monsters', then I am glad to help out. If you need to do it now, then we should go downstairs, and we can work it out from there."
She blinked and nodded with an agreeing hum. She watched him walk into the hall and she then placed her new deck onto the extra slot on her right forearm. She followed him out of the room. They traveled their way down to the basement, which contained a large room that was built for a one-on-one duel. Memoir and Seto stepped away from each other and towards their destination; at the end of the duel arena. They turned to face each other once they reached their destinations. She lifted her right arm, which not only occurred with her new deck, but also a duel disk that she had equipped on since she came to this world and escaped with him. She removed her father's deck from her duel disk to pocket it and then moved her new deck from the extra slot into the Main Deck slot. As soon as she inserted it into the duel disk, it auto-shuffled her deck.
"Hm," she blinked as her item beeped and ejected four or five cards from the Main Deck. She grabbed them and pulled them out of it to look at them, which she realized that they were all 'Excess Monsters'. The solo survivor began explaining, "Also, 'Excess Monsters' exist in the 'Extra Deck' as you guys call it those days, from what I see while I struggled to survive on this worthless bag of planets."
Memoir glanced over onto her duel disk, which beeps as it opened up the Extra Deck storage, and put those cards there, and she then spoke, "So that makes Ritual Monsters the only one of the advanced monsters to be within the Main Deck after all…"
"You can say that," Seto admitted, closing his eyes as he activated his duel disk and drew five cards.
"Hm," she grunted as she drew five cards from her Main Deck and held them in her right hand.
In her hand, she could see that she held two monsters, two spell cards, and one trap card. She drew the sixth card, 'Berserker Soul', and added it to her hand. The life points displayed on the field were 8000 points per player as she reached to take one of two monsters.
The seedrian placed it onto the blade of her duel disk and declared her move, "I am Summoning 'Rescue Rabbit' in Attack Position."
The brown-bordered card materialized onto the field with a rabbit image on it. The white fluffy rabbit with a grey hip and grey hind legs popped onto the field from the card frame, wearing a working helmet with a set of goggles to protect his eyes and a cell-phone necklace around his neck. His stats revealed to be 300 ATK with Level 4.
"I am activating the effect of 'Rescue Rabbit', by banishing him from my field; I Special Summon two copies of 'Frenzied Panda' from my Main Deck," Memoir declared her next move as she removed the monster card from her duel disk blade to pocket it and then took two yellow-framed cards from her Main Deck.
As soon as the effect monster card was removed from the blade, the rabbit's fur and accessories turned purple and then vanished into nothing. As the female player slapped the new monsters onto the duel disk blade, the violet-furred pandas with purple furs on their chests emerged from their card avatar and seemed to sit on nothing. Their stats revealed to be 1200 ATK with Level 4. Seto narrowed his eyes and frowned at her performance.
"You said that 'Excess Monster' must be Summoned from the Extra Deck by using two monsters with the same Level, is that correct?" she inquired, quoting his earlier words.
"Yes, well, at least I can understand how they are Summoned onto the field," he nodded to her question.
Memoir swung her left arm, away from her duel disk, as she started speaking again, "I Exceed Summon 'Gem-Knight Pearl', by using both copies of 'Frenzied Panda' as the Exceed Materials, in Attack Position!"
The pandas exploded into the brown stars, causing her to flinch at the flash-bang, and started circling her. She blinked and then took one of two yellow-bordered cards off its slot to place it onto the other one. Immediately, she reached to pull the black-bordered card that emerged from the Extra Deck slot and placed it onto the occupied slot in the Attack Position. Her duel disk beeped in agreement and the brown stars met in front of her, creating another star burst and forming a human-shaped appearance. The brown light faded away, revealing the male human covered in the white armor from his head to his feet with one pearl on his sternum and one on each of his shoulders. His stats were revealed to be 2600 ATK with Rank 4. Once he was finished with his introduction, he crossed his arms and stared at his opponent, just like what he did on his avatar.
"Ah… so, that's how it works… You gotta overlay two of them together to summon the 'Excess Monster', hm?" Memoir asserted as she shuffled two cards in her hands.
Her opponent nodded, disclosing his thought, "Yes. From what I could understand how they, the possessed duelists, pulled it off."
"Hm, and last thing I can do on my turn - I activate 'Heart of the Underdog' from my hand," she declared her next move, inserting the Spell Card into the blade of her dual disk.
Her dual disk beeped and a card appeared onto the field, which displayed a continuous Spell Card, with a man wearing the ragging clothes struggling against the strong wind on his own. She lowered her right arm to her hip, signaling her opponent that her turn had ended.
"Ok, it's my turn," Seto started, drawing and adding a card to his hand. He then proceeded to summon a monster, "I am Normal Summoning 'Rasetsu' from my hand."
He placed a monster onto the blade of his duel disk, which summoned a Spirit-type monster onto the field. It was a dark-skinned, red-haired spirit monster wearing navy-blue buddha-like armor and wielding a sword in the right hand. His stats were revealed to be 1500 ATK with Level 4.
"When he is Summoned, I can reveal a Spirit Monster in my hand to send your 'Gem-Knight Pearl' calm-packing as the result of the effect of 'Rasetsu'!" the male duelist declared as he revealed 'Fushi No Tori' from his hand.
'Rasetsu' pointed his opening hand at the 'Gem-Knight' monster and fired a red beam at that monster, which caused that target to vanish from the field. Memoir blinked and reached to take the black-bordered card from the blade to insert it back in the Extra Deck slot. She then moved the Normal Monsters into the Graveyard slot.
"Enter the battle, I will attack you with 'Rasetsu'," he made an attack declaration.
The spirit Buddhist jumped towards the seedrian, swinging his sword onto her. Her life points were reduced to 6500 points. She groaned and the monster bounced back to his master's side. She had to press the side of her unoccupied hand against her right bicep, suppressing the injury in her arm. She straightened up a little bit just to watch her opponent making the next move.
"And last, I set a card here, and my turn is over," he declared his last move of his turn.
Memoir blinked and pointed at him with her unoccupied hand, "Alright. Before you can officially end your turn, you should return your Spirit-type monster to your hand if they were Normal or Flip Summoned this turn. Please be sure to remember how they work like this."
"Oh yes," Seto blinked, realizing something as he looked at his duel disk. He sighed lightly, "I am still not used to actually using them. So, I am returning 'Rasetsu' from my field to my hand and my turn officially ends."
He removed the monster card from the blade of his duel disk, making 'Rasetsu' vanished into nothing, and he put it in his hand. Memoir sighed lightly as she pulled her hand from her bicep and flexed her right arm. She opened her yellow eyes and looked at her Main Deck slot, where she reached to draw a card. Once she drew a card, she heard her duel disk beeping and the Spell Card on her field glowed. She looked at her drawn card, learning that it was 'Gamma the Magnet Warrior', a Normal Monster that met the requirement of 'Heart of the Underdog'.
"The effect of 'Heart of the Underdog' has activated as I have drawn a Normal Monster. Its activation allows me to draw one more card," she explained, showing her drawn card to her opponent.
She flipped the card upside-down, pressing it against her palm, and reached to draw the next card with two of her fingers. She looked at the drawn card, realizing that it was 'Terratiger, the Empowered Warrior'. She blinked and shifted her attention to the male duelist.
"I am summoning 'Terratiger, the Empowered Warrior' from my hand," she declared her next move as her phase switched from Draw Phase to Main Phase 1.
She placed the drawn card onto the blade of her duel disk. The brown-bordered card materialized onto the field with an image of a warrior wearing a white tiger suit. The said person jumped out of the avatar and landed on the floor, wearing the white armor over his black jumpsuit with a gold shoulder pad and a design of small wing attaching to his right shoulder. His helmet featured a white tiger head with his hair hanging out from the back. Wavering behind him was his tiger tail that was striped in the black and white fur. His stats were revealed to be 1800 ATK with Level 4. His red eyes shined, which opened the transparent neon blue portal as Memoir revealed the card that she held against her palm.
"And, when he was Normal Summoned, his effect activated - I am Special Summoning a Level 4 or lower Normal Monster in the Defense Position," Memoir declared the activating effect and placed 'Gamma the Magnet Warrior' onto the monster slot, beside the one that 'Terratiger, the Empowered Warrior' occupied.
The yellow-bordered card popped onto the field on its side, exiting from the portal as it shattered, and the pink-colored monster jumped out of the avatar frame. The monster landed in Defense Position and put the arms in front of the body. The monster's design showed that it had a huge magnet resting on his chest, acting like a necklace, with the blue letter 'S' implanting on the abdomen. Folding behind the monster was a pair of pink wings with a yellow solid coin-designed acting as the joint for the wings. On the left wing had a blue letter 'S' and on the right had a red letter 'N'. Gamma's stats were revealed to be 1800 DEF with Level 4.
The female duelist blinked as she spread her fingers over the monster cards on the blade of her duel disk and declared her next move, "Lastly, since you forced my 'Gem-Knight Pearl' to return to my ha- er, Extra Deck, per its statue. So, I will proceed to Excess Summon him back onto the field, using those monsters I just summoned as his Materials, once again."
The EARTH monsters exploded into the brown stars, which started circling their owner. When they exploded, she flinched slightly and then reached to grab the black-bordered card that emerged from the Extra Deck slot of her duel disk. She grabbed it and slapped it onto the overlaid materials, which her duel disk beeped in agreement. The brown stars zipped into front of her position and reformed the same monster; 'Gem-Knight Pearl' in the same position, with his stats revealing to be 2600 ATK with Rank 4.
"Then, as my Battle Phase begins, I attack you directly with 'Gem-Knight Pearl'," Memoir declared.
The white-armored guy lunged toward Seto to punch him, deleting 2600 points from his life points. 'Gem-Knight Pearl' quickly bounced back to his owner's field. The solo survivor grunted, struggling to stay on his feet, while the monster crossed his arms once again.
"At that moment, I activated this trap card; 'Spirit's Invitation'," he called out as the phase switched from Battle Phase to Main Phase 2, his trap card lifted from its Set position.
That card's image revealed the withered fiend-type monster was yanking into the hole by the Spirit Monster, which confirmed its effect that it could pull the opponent's monster back to the hand each time the Spirit Monster was bounced by their own effect. Memoir took a card from her hand and inserted it into the blade of her duel disk.
"I am setting a card here and that's ending my turn," the seedrian declared her last move of her current turn.
Her opponent drew a card and looked at it quickly, only flinching when she activated the Trap Card; 'Battle Mania', which was the one that she set just a turn ago. She looked up at him, letting him absorb the idea of her acting it.
"Hmph," he grunted, putting the drawn card into his hand. Memoir blinked and started explaining, "This card forces you to make an attack if you choose to enter the Battle Phase and have a monster ready, otherwise, it resolves without effect if you do not present any monster."
He hmphed again, pressing the button to eject the continuous Trap Card. The form of 'Spirit's Invitation' on the field shattered, showing that he had declined to pay the card's cost. He put the card into the Graveyard and proceeded to take a card from his hand.
"I am setting this card in the back row and that's the end of my turn," he declared his next move.
She blinked and then drew a card, just as her duel disk beeped once again and the Spell Card on her field glowed once again. She checked her drawn card, learning that it was 'Gem-Knight Lapis'. She revealed it to her opponent and drew the next card. This time, the duel disk wasn't beeping so she added the new drawn card to her hand.
She placed the first draw card of her current turn onto the blade of her duel disk, "I have summoned 'Gem-Knight Lapis'."
The yellow-bordered card materialized onto the field with a female knight on the image. The monster jumped out of the avatar and landed on the ground in front of the card. She was dressed in the sand-colored battle armor with the following parts in dark magenta color; battle skirt, headband, armbands, and at the edge of her 'pants'. Laid in the center of her chest was a pearl-designed stone that easily matched her blue eyes. Her stats were revealed to be 1200 ATK with Level 3.
"Enter the Battle Phase, I attack you with Lapis first," Memoir declared her attack, recalling something that she had in her hand.
'Gem-Knight Lapis' crouched and started to dash her way toward the male duelist. She smacked him with her black-colored hands, damaging him furthermore. His Life Points changed from 5400 points to 4200 points. At that point, Lapis held her position and Seto blinked in recognition of something different. The seedrian pulled the Spell Card from her hand and revealed it to him; 'Berserker Soul'.
"Since I have attacked you with a monster that has 1500 or less ATK, I activate this card by discarding the entire set of cards in my hands. Each monster card that I excavated, you take 500 damage," she continued while inserting the Spell Card into the blade of her duel disk.
The green-bordered card materialized onto the field with the soldier on its image, breathing a black malfested air. She put her cards from her hands into the Graveyard as follows: 'Heroic Challenger - Double Lance', 'Ancient Rules', and 'Gem-Knight Alexandrite'. She held her duel disk by her chest level and drew a card from her Main Deck. She looked at it.
"I have drawn a monster - you are taking 500 damage for this one," she called out as she revealed the second copy of 'Heroic Challenger - Double Lance' and sent it to the Graveyard.
'Gem-Knight Lapis' charged the power into her palms and blasted it into the male duelist. He grunted as his Life Points reduced to 3700 points. The drawn card was sent to the Graveyard. He glared at his opponent as she drew the next card from her Main Deck and looked at it. She revealed it to him - 'Quillbolt Hedgehog' - it happened again, reducing his Life Points to 3200 points. The next two draw cards were as follows: 'Gem-Knight Garnet' and 'White Tiger Summoner'. She sent them to the Graveyard and proceeded to draw the next card.
"Ah," Memoir blinked as she looked at her latest excavated card, which turned out to be a Spell Card instead. She explained as she revealed the drawn card, "It's 'Emergency Teleport', which is a Spell Card, so I am placing it on top of my Main Deck instead."
She put it back on top of her Main Deck and then sent 'Berserker Soul' to the Graveyard. 'Gem-Knight Lapis' withdrew her hands and bounced back to her owner's side. She pointed her unoccupied hand at her opponent as she made an attack declaration, "I am finishing you off with my 'Gem-Knight Pearl'."
"At that moment! I activate my Trap Card; 'Compulsory Evacuation Device', sending your 'Gem-Knight Pearl' clam-packing once again," Seto countered, pressing a button on his duel disk to activate his Trap Card that he set a turn ago.
The Trap Card sent out the device that sucked and shot out the monster. It sucked 'Gem-Knight Pearl' into the side slot then blasted the monster to the ceiling, making that monster disappear from the field. Memoir sighed through her nose as she returned the black-bordered monster back to the Extra Deck slot… once again. The Trap Card and the device faded into nothingness.
"Then, see that you got a handle of the method. This concluded the duel. I hope you can get the whole world's problems under control as soon as possible," her opponent admitted, turning off his duel disk.
The duelists met at the middle of the arena and Memoir pulled out her Extra Deck to study it over. The solo-survivor looked over as she added a few more cards to the Extra Deck.
