Severus and Lily stayed friends throughout School and well into their Adulthood. Lily knew of Severus's Spying and was never happy with the choices her best friend made during their school days to become a Death Eater. But their friendship survived.

When Lily found out that she was expecting the first person she decided to tell was Severus. he was so happy for his friend even if he did not think that James deceived her and he always told her that. Well he told that to both of them as he often came over to hang out with his best friend and James had agreed he always said that he was the luckiest man having found Lily his soulmate.

Severus on the other hand was not that lucky he never found his one and only. Though it is harder for him as he was gay, and the only other gay men he knew of was Sirius and Remus but they had each other. So he spent his time spying on the Dark Lord for Dumbledore or spending time with his friends Lily or Lucius.

Lucius was also a spy for the order but only Dumbledore and Severus knew as they felt it was safer that way. Severus and Lucius were friends from the start of their first year of Hogwarts but a few years later they also found that they were distant cousins from Severus's mother's side. That had only forged their friendship even deeper. Lucius was so deep in his cover that he was now one of the closest allies to the Dark Lord just after Bellatrix, Severus followed after Lucius.

Severus was there for Lucius as his own son was just born on June actually had to help Narcissa with the delivery as it was too dangerous for her to go to St Mungo's and there had been complications. Severus was made Draco's Godfather just after his birth, he loved Draco and spent quite a bit of time with him wherever he went over to the manor.

Severus was there for Lily during her pregnancy as well and had been a shoulder for her to lean on when she just needed a break or a distraction. But he was also drawn to her even more during this time he found it hard to stay away more so when she got closer to her delivery date. When Lily finally went into Labor July 31st Severus had been called away already a week prior, to the Dark Lord and was kept away for nearly a week after, before he could go see his friend and her new arrival.

The first break Severus got he went over to the Potters to go and see the new little family. He had also gotten the baby a stuffed Dragon, an exact replica he had given Draco for his birth; the only difference was the colors Draco's was a deep dark green. The one he was to give Lily's new arrival was an emerald green that matched Lily's eyes thinking that that would be more fitting.

James was the one to open the door when Severus knocked. He looked like shit looking as if he had not slept in well over a week. James escored Severus into the sitting room where he found Lily sitting on the couch with a bundle in her arms.

Lily smiled up at Severus when she noticed him enter and offered him a seat next to her on the couch. "Hi Sev, long time no see." came out of her mouth just as he had taken his seat.

"Yes, it has been, I'm sorry I missed the birth. How are you holding up?" He asked her indicating to the baby in her arms.

"I'm doing well, just really tired. Harry has not been sleeping much since his birth so neither have we." She said sheepishly.

"Oh I'm sorry I can go if you want some rest." He said getting ready to get up from the couch.

"Oh no you are not. I've missed my best friend and I want you to meet him!" Lily exclaimed as she grabbed a hold of his arms pulling him back down next to her. Then placing the bundle of blankets in his arms, and pulling the blankets slightly off his face. Harry stirred at the sudden passing from his mothers arms and looked up at Severus.

"He is beautiful Lily." Severus said, taking one of Harry's outstretched hands and putting one of his fingers into his little hand to hold. The Shock of electricity that went through Severus after touching Harry's hand had him frozen staring down at Harry's little eyes. He never noticed the golden ring that developed the two of them but Lily did.

"Thank you Sev." Lily said but she could not take her eyes of her son and her best friend in their little golden bubble. "Sev, He might be your soulmate but he is still a baby." Lily said, bringing Severus back to earth and finally pulling his attention away from Harry.

"What are you on about soulmate Lily?" "You know as well as I do that I don't have one." He said looking at her in confusion.

"Severus look around the two of you, can you not see the golden glow?" she asked.

Looking around him he could now see the golden glow fading fast from around him and Harry. "What does this mean Lily?"

"That you are now family, but I think it best to not tell James as he is just getting used to being a dad. We will keep this between us, he is too young for you to claim him as yours but the bond is formed. He is going to need you in his life because being away from one's soulmate is very painful to both of you and I don't want that for him or you." She said looking at her son who had snuggled up in Severus's arms.

"You don't object?" He asked, holding Harry closer to him.

"No, I know you will take good care of him when the time comes for him to accept you and until then you will be his uncle who loves him, who he can always go to."

"Thank you Lily." He said giving his friend a hug. "Oh before I forget I got him this." He said handing over the stuffed Dragon.

Severus stayed for the day, spending time with Lily and her husband; he even offered to watch Harry so that the two of them could get some much needed rest. This was now how he spent most of his free time between going to the Malfoys to help out with Draco and spending time with his new family.

That was until He had to go back to school for the new start of term. He hated being away from Harry and it made him feel very sad and empty to be away. So every weekend he would go over to spend time with Harry. That was how everything proceeded till the Potters had to go into hiding just after Harry's first birthday. It had become too dangerous for him to be seen visiting the Potters after the Dark Lord caught wind of a prophecy in which his undoing was foretold. The Dark Lord was between Longbottom's Son and Harry. Severus was devastated when he found out. He could not risk his mate or his family. So he stayed away even after the Dark Lord was defeated by Harry, after Lily and James were killed.

He knew that Harry went to live with Lily's sister and hoped that everything was well. But he could not bring himself to go and see it hurt him much to know that he could not help his mate and his family. So He blamed himself and started to become a vile person hiding away the real him.
