Chapter Four: Who's Your Uncle?

The next thing Izuku knew, both his mother and his father were sitting in the Shimura family living room. He'd only caught a glimpse of Hana before she ran off to play with her brother. Nao sat on the armchair across from them.

Hisashi handed Nao a packet. "Here's the information on divorce lawyers. I've already purchased the mortgage on your house to ensure you can live here no matter what." The bitter look in his father's eyes made Izuku feel warm and fuzzy inside.

Nao hesitantly took the manilla folder. "I-I still haven't completely decided what I want to do. Maybe my husband can change."

"Filthy capitalists don't change." Arms crossed, Inko snorted. "He's been oppressing the working class, how could he possibly not be oppressive at home? There's a good reason I stopped speaking to him years ago."

Izuku cleared his throat. "Ma'am, Tenko told me that his father hit him. I believe that physical violence needs to be a line in the sand. Even if you chose to go to counseling with your husband, you need to impose immediate consequences for his actions right now. That means proving to him that you're prepared to leave him. Otherwise, you're just making an empty threat."

Slowly, she nodded.

Inko said, "We've already locked your husband out of his bank accounts, so you'll have no shortage of money."

Nao asked, "Is that…legal?"

Inko shrugged. "Property is theft, so does it matter?"

Izuku wondered if his mother had toned down this part of herself over the years or if he'd just been very oblivious as a child. Maybe both.

They left after making arrangements to meet with the Shimura family again for dinner.

As they walked down the hallway, Izuku overheard his father humming. "You seem in a good mood." Despite the failure of your master plan, he didn't add.

"I'm going to heal my son," Hisashi said.

Izuku wondered if he should pretend not to know about All for One's quirk. Presumably his little brother had known from a young age, but he was supposed to have amnesia, so maybe that knowledge wouldn't have remained? Better to play it safe. "I'm so excited to see how you're going to do it."

"You're coming along?" Hisashi didn't sound thrilled.

Based on what had happened last time, Izuku absolutely refused to leave his uncle alone with his father. "It's so cool that you have healing powers now, big brother. I admire you so much."

"Ha-ha, I suppose I could show off a bit." Hisashi rubbed the back of his neck.

This was way too easy.

They entered the hospital room to find Yuuto asleep on his bed. He rolled over, sending his casts rattling.

Hisashi ran over and smoothed the hair off his child's forehead. "He feels sweaty. Poor little baby. I'll take care of this while he's still asleep." Red light formed on his palm.

Yuuto's green eyes shot open. He screamed, "Ah! Danger!"

Did the danger sense inside One for All just activate? Izuku felt a pang of sympathy. After that quirk had ended up supercharged like the others, it had screamed at him constantly over everything from an untied shoelace to a spider. It had been like having constant sirens in his mind. He'd only stayed sane by learning how to tune it out. Touching a supervillain like All for One must have unleashed a sound like a volcano erupting.

Eyes blank, Yuuto thrashed and wailed.

Izuku ran over. "Hey, maybe you should stop. You're scaring him."

"It will all be over soon." Hisashi pressed his hand over the tiny face. "I'm giving you a regeneration quirk, baby."

"No! No quirks!" Yuuto screamed. Energy started to crackle around his body. Red…and green.

"Wait, you're not in danger!" Izuku cried, desperate to stop One for All from being activated.

Sightless green eyes fell on him with no recognition. Yuuto screamed even louder. Izuku realized that his uncle was having a full-fledged PTSD flashback, probably to the first time he'd had a quirk forced on him. He'd lost all control of himself…and of his quirk.

Black whip emerged from Yuuto's shoulders. That was enough to send Izuku into a PTSD flashback, too. He remembered Neito lying on the ground, his face a bloody mess as he still clung to Izuku's ankle, trying to stop him…

Izuku had tried to use the post Quirk Singularity One for All exactly once. Not only had he failed to save a single person he'd been trying to save, he'd made matters worse. Fortunately, Neito had forgiven him with grace for his missing eye. For nearly a year afterward, Izuku had stewed in helplessness, possessing the strongest quirk in the world and completely unable to use it. He'd felt like such a failure as a hero.

Even as his heart remained frozen in the past, his body moved. Izuku leapt forward, dragging his dad backward.

He'd moved just in time. Black whip penetrated the chair where Hisashi had been sitting.

Yuuto floated off his bed. Tendrils covered his body like an eldritch horror. Shadows flowed from his nose, mouth, and ears. He screamed and screamed.

The child's arms and legs bent backward at multiple strange angles like a broken puppet. Yet, even as his bones shattered, they healed themselves. They broke again, then healed again. The casts fell off in shreds.

"The regeneration quirk is working!" Hisashi cried. "Actually, it seems to be ten or twelve times stronger than promised. Very odd."

Because One for All had supercharged it. Izuku shouted, "We have to get out of here!"

"It's okay. I can handle this." Hisashi raised his hand and a black bubble formed around Yuuto. "He's just a child. I've fought trained hero—um, I've fought worse."

The terrified screaming continued from inside the bubble. A line of green formed a crack in the darkness.

Hisashi frowned. "How could his quirk be so strong at such a young age? What is it?"

His question went unanswered as a black whip lashed out and threw him into the wall.

The bubble exploded. Yuuto fell back down onto the bed. Silence returned to the room.

At least Yuuto had stopped glowing green. Compared to what had happened last time, Hisashi had suppressed most of the damage. A close shave. This entire building could have been rubble.

Izuku ran to his uncle. "Can you understand me? You have to turn off your quirk."

Yuuto moaned. "No…quirks…stop…please…big…brother."

"It's over now." Izuku didn't mention that it was too late on the quirk score. On the bright side, his uncle looked perfectly healthy, especially compared to the last time either of them had tried to use the supercharged One for All. "Do you know where you are?"

"It's not…the Void…am I still dead?" Yuuto blinked. "Are you me?"

"We swapped bodies. Do you remember?"

"Izuku!" Yuuto hugged his waist. "I'm so sorry. Did I hurt you?"

"There's not a scratch on me. Him, on the other hand…" Izuku inclined his head at where his father lay in a heap on the floor.

"It serves him right," Yuuto mumbled.

"Yes, it does." Even after all these years, his dad still hadn't learned a lesson about asking permission before bestowing quirks on people? How hard would it have been to wake the patient up and explain the situation? Hisashi had no one to blame but himself for creating a mess where there had never needed to be one.

Yuuto hopped off his bed. He grabbed a scalpel off the table as he approached his brother.

It took Izuku a moment to realize what he planned. "Hey! Stop it!" He grabbed his uncle by the back of his collar. "We still need him alive in order to obtain access to Dr. Garaki, the more important target."

His legs kicking the air, Yuuto protested, "He's just lying there, defenseless. How could I resist? I only wanted to stab him in a few nonfatal but painful places."

Izuku said grimly, "Even worse. If you're going to attack All for One then make sure you finish the job."

"So cold. Isn't he your father?"

Izuku shrugged. "He was never there when I was growing up. We're not close."

For some reason, this statement only made Yuuto look sad.

Hisashi's eyes opened.

Before Izuku could stop him, Yuuto threw the scalpel at him.

Hisashi easily caught the knife. "Aw, do you want to play? Sharp items are dangerous, so please be more careful."

"How dare you force a quirk on me while I was unconscious! I'll never be able to sleep again!" Yuuto shrieked, his small body struggling even harder against Izuku's grip.

"I healed you. I think I'm owed a few hugs." Hisashi spread his arms wide.

"Let me over there! I'll give him the final hug of his life before sending him into the sweet embrace of death!" Yuuto clawed at the air.

"What an adorable little thing you are. So murderous at such a young age! Just like your dad." Hisashi observed Yuuto's snarling face as if it belonged to a cute kitten. "Set him down. We need to have an important conversation."

Izuku set Yuuto down on the bed, keeping a grip on his wrist to prevent him from launching another attack.

Hisashi said, "Tell me who you stole those quirks from."

Both Yuuto and Izuku froze.

Hisashi beamed. "I'm so proud and happy that you got my ability! I'm going to throw you an even bigger party to celebrate! I saw you use a strength ability, a flying ability, something related to stealth, that whip, and maybe a danger sense? Who did you take them from? I'm not angry, baby, I promise. I just need to know so I can make anyone who might have noticed disappear."

Yuuto's mouth opened, then closed. He cast Izuku a desperate look. But Izuku had no solution for him. They were just lucky Hisashi hadn't noticed all of those quirks coincided with past One for All users. But this was before One for All had started manifesting quirks, so Hisashi wouldn't have any reason to be suspicious. He'd reached the most logical conclusion.

Should Yuuto fake having All for One? But it would be too easy to be proven a lie.

Finally, Yuuto said, "I don't steal quirks, unlike you. I have no idea what you're talking about."

Izuku let out a small sigh. Playing dumb was probably their best option, so he nodded very slightly.

"Such a good liar, too!" Hisashi grinned even wider. "I'm going to teach you all about how to use your ability. You're going to be Daddy's little villain."

Yuuto dry-heaved.

"But seriously, I need you to tell me where those abilities came from so I can clean up any potential problems." Hisashi's tone turned coaxing. "Not only are you not in any trouble, I'll give you cookies for each name."

Yuuto actually looked tempted, but he said, "I don't know where these powers came from, either."

"I'm afraid I need to insist that you tell me the truth, baby. This is important. I don't want to punish you for being such a clever boy, so I'm going to give you one more chance."

Izuku leapt to his uncle's rescue. "You call him 'Daddy's little villain?' What kind of strange pet name is that? I assume it's some sort of joke, but I don't get it."

The smile froze on Hisashi's face. "Yes, it's a joke. Because both Izuku and I love the Demon King character from that comic book we used to read as kids. Isn't that right, Izuku?"

Yuuto stared, deadpan. "I certainly do not—"

"On second thought, little boys need their secrets, so I'll drop the subject of your quirks. Aren't you grateful, my little pumpkin?" Hisashi winked frantically.

Yuuto nodded. "I love your villain-themed, joking nicknames for me."

"How unusual yet adorable," Izuku said brightly.

All three of them laughed a little too long.

They were meeting the Shimuras (minus Kotaro) for dinner at a fancy restaurant. Hisashi stopped by Izuku's room beforehand to fuss around with his suit and fail to fasten his tie.

As they walked down the hallway, Hisashi said, "When I was drifting in and out of consciousness, I thought I heard something strange. Did Izuku call me big brother?"

"What, no, that would be ridiculous." Izuku forced a smile onto his face. "I didn't hear my nephew say anything like that. You must have been imagining things. But what a strange thing for you to hallucinate! Did your son's incident resemble anything that happened between us in the past? If so, that might explain it."

Hisashi's face paled. "Nope! Absolutely nothing like that ever happened! You've always been quirkless!"

From his father's frantic denial, Izuku knew his diversionary tactic had worked. He couldn't resist one last jab. "Of course, I'm sure you wouldn't force a quirk on someone again if the first time turned out disastrously."

"I was only helping my beloved son." Hisashi pouted, rubbing his neck. "I waited until he was asleep because I didn't want him to know about my real quirk. But of course everything is different now I know he inherited All for One!" He perked up, rubbing his hands with glee. "I'll train him on how to use it. I'm so excited!"

"Yeah, great, I'm so happy for you," Izuku muttered, unable to keep the bitterness from his voice. Since long before he'd discovered All for One's true identity, he'd always wondered if his father had abandoned him because he was quirkless. This felt like confirmation of his fears.

Hisashi cast him a sidelong look. "You realize I would have been happy whether he had any quirk or none at all?"

"Sure," Izuku said. He didn't believe it.

"Then you're probably wondering why I never gave you a regeneration quirk. I tried many times while you were in a coma, but it doesn't have any effect on your illness. You have a cellular degeneration condition common among the first generation of metahumans. The earliest people to develop powers often found their bodies couldn't handle them."

"Makes sense." Izuku nodded, not really listening.

"I know you don't like my doctor very much, but I need you to come by the lab at some point for some tests. I know of a couple quirks that might be able to help you breathe better, but won't affect your amnesia. Not that I don't want your amnesia to be cured! That would be a great side-effect. Really. Hence why we're going to run loads of tests so we can find out if there's any chance of that happening in advance."

"Uh-huh."

"It's so good to have you back—" Hisashi stopped talking. A Nomu lurched down the hallway toward them, likely on an errand since it carried a stack of folders in its black arms.

"Look over there!" Hisashi grabbed Izuku's head and shoved him toward the wall.

After several loud sounds, Hisashi let go. "I'm so sorry, I could have sworn I saw…a rare edition comic book…it must have just been my imagination."

Izuku shook out his sore neck, pretending not to notice the pile of goo in the corner. "What a shame. I do miss my comic books." He couldn't believe he was being forced to play along with such a ridiculous story just so he didn't end up in a vault. Seriously, how stupid did Dad think his younger brother was? He had zero respect for Uncle Yuuto's intelligence, didn't he?

Hisashi asked, "Did you see someone coming down the hallway toward us?"

"Maybe?" Izuku shrugged. "I caught a glimpse of a black coat and bloodshot eyes. You must be seriously overworking your employees, big brother. He almost looked like a zombie!"

"I provide great benefits to all my employees," Hisashi said. "You should see our severance pay. Someone who wasn't supposed to let anyone into this part of the building is about to find out about our termination plan in detail!"

To the surprise of no one, Hisashi took them to an extremely fancy restaurant. Gold crusted the red awning and ivy climbed the old brick walls. Inko stepped out of the limousine in a stunning silver dress. Yuuto looked uncomfortable in a small, striped suit. He kept yanking at the bowtie.

They were ushered to a private room in the back. The Shimura family was already seated. Nao's eyebrows creased as she looked at the menu. "There are no prices. Are you certain you don't mind paying?"

"Order whatever you like." Hisashi sighed. "It seems my wife already plans for this affair to cost me in many more ways. Darling, if you wanted a new cause so badly, I could have purchased an animal shelter."

"My husband is such a kidder." Inko elbowed him. "My, don't you two look nice?" She kissed both Hana and Tenko on the forehead.

Tenko Shimura peered out from behind his older sister, looking shy. It felt strange for Izuku to see the destroyer of Japan like this. He made a conscious decision to let go of his old grudges. They belonged to a world that would never occur now. The boy before him was only an innocent child.

"Nice to meet you, Tenko," he said, bending over to shake the boy's hand. "My name is Yuuto."

"I'm Izuku." Yuuto shook next. "You're family, so you can call me Uncle!"

Izuku stepped on his uncle's foot.

Yuuto paled. "I mean, call uncle or I'll keep beating you up." He put Tenko into a headlock.

"Ah! Stop! What did I do to deserve this?" Tenko wailed. Though he was older and stronger, he couldn't seem to break free no matter how hard he struggled. Probably the difference between a regular child and a trained marital artist in a child's body.

"Look at Daddy's little villain! He's like a chip off the old block!" Hisashi said, wiping a tear of laughter from his eye.

"Stop bullying my brother!" Hana ended the fight by picking up Yuuto and physically carrying him to his seat.

Tenko sniffled and rubbed his eyes.

Izuku knelt down next to the boy. "I heard you're quirkless? So am I. The world can be unfriendly to people like us, so I hope I can help you out in the future. You can talk to me anytime."

"Thank you," Tenko said, giving him a big smile. Japan's deadliest villain had been such a cute child back then.

Hisashi stared at him. "Little brother, how did you know that quirklessness became uncommon?"

Izuku flinched. In his father and uncle's time period, people with quirks had been the ones discriminated against. He'd screwed up. He'd screwed up big time.

Yuuto said, "I told my uncle all about how these days people discriminate against those without quirks or those with less acceptable ones. I've seen how friends of mine got treated differently after their quirks came in. Now I've got this villainous looking quirk, I told Uncle Yuuto about how scared I was of being bullied."

Hisashi's face softened. "My poor baby. Don't worry, I'll never let that happen to you. You've got a very special, very wonderful ability."

Izuku breathed a sigh of relief and engrossed himself in the menu.

When the waiter reached him, Izuku said, "I'll take the dry rub ribs."

"I'm sorry, little brother, you can't have that," Hisashi said.

"Excuse me?" Izuku stared. He'd known his father was controlling, but what the hell was his problem?

To his left, Yuuto whispered, "Too high in sodium! It would put you in the hospital!"

Oh, right, his uncle's illness. "Uh, of course." Izuku rubbed his neck. "Give me a moment to look at the menu." Dammit, there was almost nothing he could eat! It felt even more frustrating after so long living off post-apocalyptic canned goods. "I'll have the salad, I guess."

Turning to Yuuto, Hisashi asked, "Are you sure you can eat an entire pineapple bacon pizza all by yourself, my little pumpkin?"

"I'm going to try!" Yuuto said with the determination of someone who planned to consume as much sodium as he could stuff into his mouth while he had the chance.

The adults discussed logistics over dinner. Inko kept trying to persuade Nao to take her soon-to-be-ex-husband's company while Nao made it clear she felt neither capable enough nor deserving of quite that much compensation in the divorce.

"You could use the company to do so much good," Inko said.

"I could run it to the ground within a few days," Nao mumbled.

Having little to contribute, Izuku ate his salad. He noticed his uncle staring at him.

Clearing his throat, Yuuto hissed, "Boy, tomatoes sure are disgusting! No one in their right mind would ever eat them raw! Too sour!"

"These are quite sweet and delicious," Izuku said, eating another cherry tomato.

His father stared at him. "Little brother, you hate tomatoes. You wouldn't eat them on the pain of having your entire comic book collection removed."

Izuku realized this time he was the one who'd missed the obvious clue from his uncle. Oops. He thought fast. The best defense was a strong offense. "I feel instinctively that you're right! I did used to dislike tomatoes. Then I went through some traumatic incident where I couldn't afford to be picky about my food. I vaguely remember being on the run constantly while someone hunted me down like a dog…"

Hisashi paled. "Oh, right, you got over your picky eating! I certainly do remember that because we were always living together and there was never a point in time when you were on the run, you must be imagining that part. I'm so silly, I don't know why I forgot that."

"You are silly, Dad," Yuuto said. "I might even call you foolish!"

"Let's not push it," Izuku hissed out of the side of his mouth.

Nao looked between them. "You're a very strange family."

Somehow, they got through dinner without another incident. Until the waiter brought around dessert menus.

"I'd like the oatmeal raisin cookie," Yuuto said immediately.

Hisashi plucked the menu from his hand. "You're still being punished, my little pumpkin. Though I might see my way toward making an exception to the no-dessert rule if you're willing to reveal certain information about you-know-what…"

Yuuto glared. Then he leaned over and whispered, "Tenko, would you like to get a cookie?"

Tenko said, "I'm full, thank you."

Yuuto's lips peeled back into a feral grin.

Tenko swallowed. "I'd like two cookies! Maybe even three!"

"Then you'll get them to go." Hisashi laughed. "I'm proud of you for trying, son. You clearly you got my brains, unlike my brother. Boy, don't get me started on his idiocy, or we'll be here all night. Okay, maybe just one story. Did I ever tell you about the one and only time he almost beat me at Monopoly, until I convinced him to give me three fifties in change for a one dollar bill? What a fool!"

A knife whizzed toward Hisashi's head, slicing off a lock of hair.

His face contorted with fury, Yuuto grabbed another dinner knife.

As the rest of the dinner table stared in astonishment, Hisashi easily disarmed his supposed son. "You got my personality, too! Ah, I remember how hard it can be to restrain the murderous impulses when you're still young. Aren't you the cutest little villain?" He attempted to kiss the boy's forehead.

"Get off!" Yuuto thrashed, striking a chin with his elbow. "I'm going to kill you!"

Hisashi frowned, rubbing his jaw and looking hurt. "Are you truly so upset about the cookies? I swear, you haven't let me hug you since you got injured."

Yuuto crossed his arms and looked murderous.

Later, after they'd returned to the compound, Inko showed Yuuto to his new bedroom and Izuku tagged along.

Lingering in the doorway, he told his uncle, "I know you're still bitter about the latest forced quirk incident, and that's entirely understandable, but at this rate, you're going to make Dad suspicious."

"It's a big change in personality." Inko nodded. "My little Izuku was such a Daddy's boy. He used to wait by the door for hours when Hisashi was supposed to return home. He'd cut out little paper hearts for his dad and leave them in his pockets. When his father was away on trips, sometimes Izuku would sneak into our bedroom and steal one of his father's shirts to sleep with."

"That was a long time ago," Izuku said, embarrassed. He didn't remember any of what she'd said.

"I always knew you'd grow up someday and start rebelling against your father. I just never anticipated you'd start rebelling at age four, because I didn't think you'd time-travel. But you always were a precocious child from the beginning! I'm so proud of you, sweetie!" Inko wiped away a tear.

Attempting to change the subject, Izuku asked his uncle, "Could you let my dad give you a hug once in a while? I have to put up with it, so you can too."

Yuuto crossed his arms. "Yeah, that's not happening."

Izuku sighed. "Can't you even try, Uncle Yuuto?"

"Part of being a mature hero is recognizing your limits," Yuuto said. "If acting as you convincingly involves fawning over my brother and frequent cuddles, it's simply not going to happen. We'd be wiser to plan on me avoiding him."

Despite Izuku's annoyance, this made sense. Thus far, every encounter between his uncle and his father had been a disaster. It would be naïve not to expect that pattern to continue. "Fine," he sighed.

"Good luck with saving the world," Inko said cheerfully as she headed for the door. "I have a few more ideas about the company to email to Nao. We're going to do so much good and spread anarchy!"

An idea nagged at the back of Izuku's mind. He'd traveled back in time knowing that saving the world had to be his top priority. But if he could, then he'd want to save more people like he'd done for Tenko.

His dear friend Shouto Todoroki had a terrible home life. The incident that had transformed his older brother into Dabi would happen soon. This would eventually lead to Shouto's face being burned.

Izuku donned his most winning smile. "Mom, I don't suppose you'd be willing to help me rescue another friend of mine from the future?"

OMAKE TIME!

Omake: After the Dinner

Nao: That entire family is insane.

Tenko: Mom, I feel so much more comfortable at home now I'm not constantly afraid that Dad will start yelling.

Nao: But I mean that in a good way! They're so charming and quirky.

#Meanwhile, Hisashi: I can't believe I got through an entire family dinner without my brother trying to poison me! Admittedly, my son seems to have switched to trying to kill me instead…

#

Omake: Recessive Genetics

Izuku: I've been transported into my uncle's body. Time for some elaborate mind games to fool my father.

Yuuto: I hate mind games. Someone hand me a scalpel, and I'll take care of this problem by slitting my big brother's throat.

#

Omake: Alternative Dialogue

Hisashi: Say "Thank you for healing me."

Yuuto: Fuck off.

Hisashi: That's "Thank you for healing me, Dad."

Yuuto: Fuck off, villain.

Hisashi: The parenting book never said anything about this. But it also didn't mention vaulting either, so clearly it was written by an incompetent.

#

Omake: If One for All Had Stayed with Izuku After the Body Swap

Hisashi: My dear little brother, you'll never understand the burden of bearing a powerful quirk. The need to maintain constant control, the strain on my handsome body, jealousy of my inferiors…

Izuku: Oh, shut up. (Punches down a wall while attempting to swat a fly.)

Hisashi: Wow! So even after all those years, remnants of that old quirk still linger… Hey, my dearest baby brother, can I borrow that?

Izuku: No.

Hisashi: Just for a few seconds. You'll never even notice.

Izuku: No.

Hisashi: But surely you have no reason to deny me. You trust your big brother, don't you?

Izuku: Hmm, you're right. Why don't you use that powerful quirk you were bragging about to steal mine? Give me a demonstration of your awesome power. It's not like you need my permission or anything. Do you?

Hisashi: Ha-ha, on second thought, I don't need your quirk after all.

Izuku: Nope, you don't.

#If Hisashi had gotten One for All, he planned to slip his brother back a minor strength quirk and keep the good one for himself #Thus proving the universal law that you should never lend your siblings your stuff and expect to get it back in the same shape #I'm not sure how Hisashi would have explained needing to eat his brother's hair #Although in canon he tries to steal One for All with only a touch #But I'm going by "Law of Funny" for this fic #And I think it would be funny to make Hisashi eat a hair

Hisashi: Can I borrow your quirk, little brother? Pretty please? I'm not going away until you say yes or give me a good reason why not.

Izuku: (Panics) Uh, sure, how does it work?

Hisashi: (Remembers he has to consume a piece of DNA.) I'm busy at the moment, I'll ask you again later.

Cue several days of Hisashi trying to snag a hair off his supposed brother's head and Izuku dodging. Eventually, Hisashi steals one off his pillow.

Hisashi: (Still gagging on the taste of all the chemicals that keep his brother's hair fluffy.) I'm ready to borrow your quirk now.

Izuku: Oh, sorry, I changed my mind, you can't have it after all.

Author's Note: Endeavor's redemption arc and Dabi's past were well-done, but they don't fit the plans I already had for this story, so I'm not going to use them. Compared to anarchist Inko, I don't think abusive Endeavor is particularly out of character.
