The wedding reception pretty much ended after Ella's big drunken speech. Carlos managed to wake her up and Lucifer and Amenadiel asked to see Ella's research that she had been doing about the end of the world. Jane used her magic to wake Carol up and Ella told him to go home as she had an emergency. Jane also used her magic to put the dead bodies the demons had been using back where they died. Jane wanted to stay, but Carlos convinced her to head back to Auradon and get some rest and that he would visit her in the next day or two with updates. She left and Ella dragged Lucifer, Amenadiel, Chloe, Carlos, and Dude to LAPD. On the way there, Carlos gave a basic summary of Auradon and his background. Ella said, "Wow. I guess those Disney movies were pretty accurate. Magic is real. And fairy tales are real. OK."
They got to LAPD and Ella led them to her lab and she showed them her findings, "See? There it is. Definitive proof that the laws of nature are breaking down, and the Earth as we know it is officially doomed." Lucifer said, "Right. Yeah, I can see how some of these tings could be problematic. Uh, frogs falling from the sky, plagues, random plane crashes. But reduced hiccups and vanishing mosquitoes? I mean, surely those last two should reside on a separate tiny nuisance board?" Ella sighed, "Maybe I haven't figured out exactly what role hiccups will play in the world's final act, but the dwindling mosquito population? Ay dios mio! Mosquito numbers drop low enough, the whole ecosystem goes down like a triple decker nice cram on a hot summer day. We're talking aquatic life, birds, all affected. We lose mosquitoes, we lose civilization." "Wow," Carlos commented. "Dark," Dude added. Amenadiel sighed, "I was supposed to protect humanity. How could I fail to notice something of this magnitude?" Chloe said, "Well, to be fair, none of us noticed. "I noticed," Ella replied. "OK? I noticed. And I would have figured it out a lot sooner if any one of you would have let me into your little celestial in crowd, but no! You guys had to play "sideline the scientist", like everybody else." Carlos looked at Ella, "Ella, take a deep breath and calm down." Ella did just that.
Amenadiel turned to Lucifer, "You need to become God, now." Ella was confused, "Hold up. I thought your dad was God. Father of angels, best hugger in the world, because he literally invented hugs. It all made sense." Lucifer explained, "Dad was God, but then he retired to Mom's universe. Incommunicado as ever. Probably thinks that the apocalypse is some sort of teachable moment." Ella asked, "So, what, you're just gonna become the new God now?" Ameenadiel said, "He's not "just" doing anything, Ella. The whole angel war was fought to win Lucifer that seat. Remiel died for it. Chloe died for it." "You what now?" Ella asked. Chloe explained, "We still have some things we need to explain." Amenadiel continued, "Listen, it's been a long and painful road for all of us, but the time has come for Lucifer to ascend the throne." "Uncle Amenadiel has a point, Dad," Carlos added. Lucifer then said, "You're right, brother. It's time."
They went up to the roof and Lucifer stood at the edge, "Next time you see me, I'll be God. Ruler of Heaven and Earth." Lucifer tried to unfurl his wings, but his wings weren't coming out. Ella asked, "Why is he doing that shruggy thing with his shoulders?" "He's trying to get his wings out," Carlos explained. "But he's being weird about it," Dude added. Lucifer said, "It's just….this is very weird. Like, I can feel my wings in there, but they don't just….they don't wanna pop out. I….this has never happened to me before. I….Gimme some room! I'll give it a jump start."
Everyone parted and Lucifer took off for a run, but it didn't work. Lucifer turned to Amenadiel, "Give me a lift." Amenadiel replied, "Given what happened last time, I think it's probably best that you deal with whatever this is before you go up." "Good point," Lucifer realized. "Carlos, try to command me to bring my wings out." Carlos nodded, "OK. Dad, unfurl your wings." But it didn't work and Carlos said, "That's weird." Chloe then said, "Lucifer, your body self-actualizes, so, with everything that's been going on, what if your wings aren't coming out because you feel you're not ready to be God." Lucifer chuckled, "But I am ready." Amenadiel said, "Listen, we don't have time for this. I'll go to the Silver City and try to figure out what's going on and try to stall whatever's happening. As for you, brother, you need to get your head on straight." Amenadiel then ran and jumped off the edge, with Ella running after him, "Amenadiel!" But then she saw his wings and him flying away. Ella chuckled, "So that's how it's supposed to work."
Lucifer tried one more time, but failed. "Dad," Carlos said. "Enough. Clearly, they don't want to come out right now." Lucifer asked, "Well, now what?" Chloe said, "OK, if you need to get your head on straight, then…." Lucifer realized what she meant and said, "Right." He then left and Dude asked, "Where's he going?"
Lucifer went right to Linda's house and found her sleeping, "Doctor! Doctor! Oh, for crying out loud. Doctor!" Lucifer shook her a little and that woke her up. She turned around and saw Lucifer, and then covered herself as she was naked. Lucifer said, "Don't worry. It's nothing I haven's seen before. Look, I'm sorry to wake you, but it's an emergency." He then saw a man walk by and Lucifer said, "Oh, hello. The sommelier from the wedding. Excellent taste, as always." Linda asked, "What kind of emergency, uh, other than the end of the world?" Lucifer replied, "It's time, Doctor." "Time for what?" Linda asked. "For the final therapy of Lucifer Morningstar," Lucifer said. "For real, this time."
Linda put on some clothes and Lucifer drove her to her office. They walked in and Linda said, "OK, I understand the possible end of the world needs to be dealt with quickly, in the middle of the night, even, but why did we have to come to my office?" Lucifer replied, "Because this is where I do my best emotional processing." Linda sighed, "Right, of course. OK, so what's the problem?" Linda turned on some lights and Lucifer answered, "Well, I can't save the world till I'm on Dad's throne, and I can't get to Dad's throne 'cause my wings are on the fritz." Linda asked, "OK, couldn't Amenadiel fly you up?" Lucifer nodded, "Well, in theory, yes. But who's to say my body won't self-sabotage some other way? I mean, I could burst into flames again, and not the, you know, "Yay, I'm worthy" kind." Linda replied, "Lucifer, you're right that most performance issues are rooted in the mind." Lucifer took offense to that, "I beg your pardon. You of all people should know I've never suffered from performance issues. Oh, you mean the wings. Right, yes, well, that is most likely mental, rather than anatomical, which is why the fate of the world literally rests in your capable hands. So, come on. Shrink me."
He took a seat on the couch and Linda sighed, "OK, just, um, just give me a sec to think." She sat down at her desk and pulled out her manuscript for her book. Lucifer got up and walked over, "What's that?" "Nothing," Linda lied. But Lucifer grabbed it out of her hand and read the title, "Sympathy for the Devil, My Time with Lucifer Morningstar. Doesn't look like nothing to me." Linda sighed as she stood up, "OK. This is happening. At 3 AM. Without a bra. Um, I've been writing a book about you." Lucifer was shocked, "Well, this is, uh, this is marvelous! I mean, Western literature has portrayed me in a terrible light for centuries, starting with that perennial best seller that need not be named. Thanks for nothing, Gutenberg." Linda replied, "Yeah, well, it's just a first draft. Uh, a pre-first draft, really. I was just skimming over it in case there was something useful, you know, from one of your past sessions, you know, considering I haven't had any sleep. Or coffee."
Lucifer had an idea, "The past. Doctor, that's it." "What's it?" Linda asked. Lucifer explained, '"If everything we've worked through together in the past five years is contained in this book, then the answer to my little wing sitch must be in here. So, all we need to do is find it." Linda got worried, "Oh, I don't think that's a good idea, Lucifer." Lucifer noted, "Quite a lot to read on borrowed time." Linda explained, "That's just chapter one." She pulled out a huge stack of paper, "That's the book." Lucifer replied, "Right. Were you planning to go full Dickens and get paid by the word?" Linda said, "Unwieldy, right? Which is why I think we should come up with another solution. Hypnosis, visualization. I know a medicine man in Tarzana who can do wonders with ayahuasca." Lucifer stopped her, "Well, much as I love the psychedelics, no need, doctor. Because all we need to do is go through everything you've written, line by line, until we find the answer. We're gonna need a bigger office."
Lucifer and Linda went to Lux and had Chloe, Carlos, Ella, and Maze come so that Lucifer could have a lot of people look over multiple pages of the book. Dude was sleeping up in the guest suite. Ella walked in carrying multiple gift bags, "Now don't think this means I'm not still mad at you guys, OK? Because I totally am. But you can't have a sleepover without fuzzy slippers and Korean face masks. You just can't." She handed a bag to everyone there, but she looked down and said, "Wait. You said there would be six of us." Lucifer looked up and saw Maze walk in wearing a pink wing, blue contacts, a pink tutu dress, and white high heels. Everyone was staring at her and Maze asked, "What? You interrupt a demon on her wedding night, you get what you get."
Once she sat down, Lucifer explained why they were all there, "So, in conclusion, if we divide and conquer the doctor's sure to be fascinating book, then we should be able to solve my wingtuation in a snap. Save the devil, save the world, as it were." Dan was sitting at a table and said, "Maybe Lucifer's problem is he promises to help people out. But then he just leaves them hanging." Maze chuckled, "Yeah, good point, Dan." Ella got confused, "Dan? What? No way! Are you telling me that Dan is here, like, in this room?" Carlos explained, "Yeah, he's a ghost. Humans can't see him. Only celestials and demons can. Well, I can too, since I'm half celestial. Plus the magical side of me too I guess." "Oh!" Ella replied. Then she turned to Lucifer, "Well, maybe your problem is that you're constantly keeping secrets from people who care about you!" Dan said, "Maze, give Ella a message for me." Maze shook her head, "No! I did not traipse over here on my wedding night to be your Whoopi Goldberg."
Chloe held up a page, "Hey, look, guys. Everybody's name is on this page, so this might be a good place to start." She then started to read, "Lucifer sauntered into the precinct, greeting all of his friends."
("Hello, precinct!" Lucifer shouted. "Yes, it's me, your favorite crime solving devil. Morning, Detective." "Good morning," Chloe greeted. "That's the case, all wrapped up. Clue, suspect, new clue, takedown. Another murder solved. Crazy that the killer was the first person we met." "What are the chances?" Lucifer replied. "I know!" Chloe said. Carlos then walked up to them with Dude, "Sorry, Dad, had to take Dude for a quick walk. Is the case solved?" "You bet it is," Lucifer replied. "Thanks to your skills." Carlos chuckled, "It was no problem." Ella walked up to them, "Isn't it such a great day? Also, I have information for you. Science, gak. Super-duper cheery science gak." "Did you say science?" Chloe asked. Ella nodded. Chloe said, "That makes me think. Yes, I just solved another murder." "Unbelievable," Lucifer replied. "Very clever, Chloe," Carlos added. Dan then walked over, "Hey, Chloe! Here's the evidence you asked for." He handed it to Chloe, who chuckled, "Oh, Dan. I think you made a mistake. But don't worry, I'll fix it. Again." Maze then walked into throwing two of her bounties on the floor, "Yeah. You're welcome." Lucifer replied, "Two for one bounties. Kudos." "Two and a half," Maze clarified as she pulled out a severed head and Dan screamed. Maze said, "Relax, dude. He was like that when I found him." Chloe asked, "Dan, is something missing from the evidence bag?" "Give it up, Dan," Carlos commanded. Dan sighed and pulled out money and handed it to her. Lucifer chuckled, "Daniel." They heard Maze scream and they turned to see Maze making out with Officer Cacuzza. Chloe asked, "Cacuzza! Were you under there the whole time? Under. That makes me think. I just solved another murder." "How do you do it, Detective?" Lucifer asked. "You're so smart and beautiful and perfect, and we are the best partnership ever, aren't we? That reminds me. There's something important I need to talk with you about. Something celestial in nature. Uh, Miss Lopez, would you mind giving us a moment?" Chloe added, "Yes, I would love some more science gak." "I can help you out," Carlos offered. Ella smiled, "You got it, Decker, because I'm so happy and everything is great!" Ella walked away and Carlos gave his dad a "I'm watching you" stare as Lucifer said, "Isn't it?" He then turned to Chloe and said, "It's not, we have a problem.)
Linda stopped Chloe from reading even further by taking the pages from her, "Nope! No, Lucifer epiphanies on this page. Guess we'd better just move on!" She sat down and saw that everyone was looking at her, "Did I mention this is a first draft and hasn't been edited at all?" Ella stood up, "Which means that that is exactly what Lucifer said about us…." "Technically, not exactly," Lucifer clarified. Ella continued, "How apparently, he thinks I'm nothing but sunshine and rainbows. Not so sunshine and rainbows now, am I? Guess you don't really know me any better than I thought I knew you." Chloe said, "Well, to be fair, you do tend towards a glass half full attitude. So I'd say the book is pretty accurate." Ella replied, "Uh, yeah, of course you would say that. I mean, you came out amazing." Chloe sighed, "Well, I guess so." Maze said, "I don't know. I think Lucifer nailed it with me. The sex, violence, kiss ass outfits. I mean, hello!" Dan added, "Yeah, he got me right too." Maze said, "I never thought I'd say this about a book, but I can't wait to dig in." Ella added sarcastically, "Ho-ho! Neither can I." Ella and Maze grabbed another pages as Lucifer said to Linda, "Doctor, I am beginning to suspect you should have done a bit more editing before sharing your manuscript with others." "You'd think?" Linda asked. Carlos said, "Whatever the case, I have to agree with Dad. Sorry, Aunt Linda, but everything sounds exaggerated. Like a fanfiction or something." Linda sighed.
Everyone grabbed some pages of the book and went off into their own corners of the club. Lucifer was sitting next to Ella, who said, "I cannot believe you kept this from me. And that! I held an angel feather in my hand. And you let me believe it was from an emu?" Lucifer replied, "Oh, well, I wouldn't get so upset about that. I mean, given the information you had at the time, I'd say emu feather was the most logical explanation. Now, can we just focus on the matter at hand, please? Huh? Me, wings…." Ella sighed and started to talk to herself in Spanish, which made Lucifer groan, "Not with the Spanish."
Linda was watching the interaction with Lucifer and Ella and said to Chloe, "You know, I'm used to indulging Lucifer's unique therapeutic process, but I'm starting to feel like this is a mistake. Do you think I should remind them again that this is just a rough draft? At least I have you. Rational, reasonable, Chloe. Always on task. And also my adopted nephew. Even though he's on his Dad's side about me needing to edit this." Chloe was reading some pages, "Yep, that's me."
Carlos was reading by himself and even though he did say that this needed editing and felt like a fanfiction, he could see the actual truth underneath it all. He heard some of the stories written from his dad, but it was interesting to read the same stories from another point of view.
Maze was reading to Dan, then asked, "Uh, should I speed up or slow down? You can read, right?" Dan sighed, "Doesn't matter. There's no surprises about me in here. It's just "corrupt cop", "shitty person". I get the gist." Maze replied, "You are not a shitty person, Dan." Dan pointed out, "You're literally reading about the time we killed a guy, Maze." He sighed and kept reading, "Maze and Dan were headed downtown, thirsty for justice."
(Dan drove his car to a warehouse, Maze sitting in the passenger seat. Dan said in a macho voice, "This is all my fault." Maze responded in a quiet voice, "Yeah, Dan, this is all your fault." Dan said, "The murderer who killed Chloe's dad is walking around free and it's all because of me. We have to do something." "We can't kill him," Maze replied. Dan smirked, "You're right, Maze. We can't." A van pulled up near them and Maze realized, "The Russians!" Dan nodded, "It's what we have to do.")
Maze chuckled, "You think you're the one who set the Russians up to murder that guy? No, please. You're reading it all wrong."
(The scene started again, this time, Maze was driving the car and Dan was sitting in the passenger seat. Dan said nervously, "This is all my fault." Maze sighed, "Yeah, Dan, this is all your fault." Dan said, "The murderer who killed Chloe's dad is walking free and it's all because of me. We have to do something." Maze replied, "Well, we can't kill him." Dan nodded in agreement, "Yeah, you're right, Maze. We can't." Dan saw a van pull up and Maze smirked at him. Dan asked, "The Russians?" Maze shrugged, "It's what we gotta do. Come on.")
"OK, OK," Dan stopped Maze from reading any more. "You have your version. I have mine. Anyway, it doesn't really matter. What we did back there wasn't right. All right? But I spent a few thousand years coming to terms with it. And I don't think it's the source of my guilt. I just wish I could figure out what my real guilt is." Maze asked, "Uh, well, what was in your hell loop?" Dan shrugged, "I don't know. I woke up, I relived my death a little. Then Lucifer would tap me to play ping pong with Belios." Maze sighed, "Oh, God." Dan asked, "Wait, is that bad?" Maze nodded, "Yeah, it's bad. Whatever a damned soul's biggest source of guilt is, that's what goes on in his hell loop. No hell loop, no answers." Dan realized, "So then, when Lucifer rescued me from Hell's torture, he…." "He totally screwed you," Maze finished. "Hey, but don't worry. I can fix it." "You can?" Dan asked. Maze nodded, "Hello! Yeah, I'm a demon. I mean, I'm basically a walking guilt detector. Cheer up, dude. I'm gonna torture your ass right into Heaven."
Ella was reading more pages next to Lucifer, "Charlotte Richards was a goddess?" Lucifer clarified, "Only some of the time." Sighing, he put the pages he was reading aside and said, "Look, to play my advocate, I have always told you the truth." "I thought you were an actor," Ella replied. "Was it fun for you guys, watching me walk around without a clue?" Lucifer sighed, "Look, to be honest, Miss Lopez, I have always envied your ability to accept the Devine in absence of proof. I suppose that's what faith is, isn't it?" Ella reminded him, "I lost my faith, Lucifer. I lost my faith after Charlotte died. And not one of you told me that you knew that she was in a better place. You didn't tell me that the Big Guy was still up there, that he still cared. That single set of footprints in the sand, that was me, walking alone." Ella started to cry and Lucifer assured her, "But you weren't alone. I mean, we may not have spelled it out to you, but we were all there with you, every step of the way. Every step of the way." Lucifer pulled her into a hug and Lucifer added, "Not to mention what a great friend you've been to us celestials over the years. Chilling with the Angel of Death before you even met the rest of us. You and Azrael are practically BFFs." Ella was confused and pulled away, "Wait, what?" Lucifer realized, "Oh, you haven't got that part of the book. Here." He started to look for it as Ella shouted, "Ray-Ray is the Angel of Death?!" Ella stormed off as Lucifer sighed, "This is the worst idea the doctor has ever had."
Ella went to a separate part of the club and started to pace. Carlos walked over and asked, "Ella, you OK?" Ella turned to him, "Really? That's your question? I just found out a bunch more information that I never knew about. Like how I've been friends with the Angel of Death for years." Carlos shrugged, "Yeah, I guess that was a stupid question." Ella asked, "Let me ask you something. Why didn't you tell me about any of this? About who you were all along. I mean, the son of Cruella De Vil. That's major." Carlos sighed, "Would you have believed me? Me, the person who's literally from a parallel Earth where fairy tales are reality?" Ella said, "I guess you have a point." Carlos replied, "I'm sorry that I didn't tell you any part of the truth to you. I still have trust issues. Yes, I have trusted you now for a while, but since you didn't know about any of this celestial stuff, I thought that I shouldn't share my secrets to you." Ella sighed, "Again, you have a point. But did you want to?" Carlos nodded, "Yes." Ella said, "Alright then. You told me some things. I have more questions. It will help distract me from all of this."
Over with Linda and Chloe, Linda asked, "Ever wonder what your hell loop would look like, if you had one?" Chloe shook her head and Linda continued, "Mine would be a room full of my friends reading the first draft of my biggest professional accomplishment ever and hating it so much that they'd rather complain about it than save the world. Please tell me you have something. Anything, any insights at all." Chloe looked at Linda, "Yeah, I think I have something." Chloe was thinking about all the times Lucifer left her, whether for hours, days, weeks, months. And she remembered what Rory said about Lucifer not showing up on her deathbed. Linda saw the look on Chloe's face and sighed, "Oh, dear."
Over with Dan and Maze, they were sitting on the floor and Maze said, "Charlotte Richards. Yeah, she's dead because of you. She depended on you to protect her, and you failed her." Dan tried to feel something from that, but said, "Yeah, that's not it. I mean, I did blame myself for a while, but Charlotte's death wasn't my fault. And honestly, it's kind of comforting to know at least she's in Heaven." Maze asked, "Well, what about your parents? They're probably really disappointed in you. I mean, look at you. Died of broken hearts because of all your sad BS." Dan replied, "Actually, my parents are super proud of me and super alive. They're actually sponsoring an improv troupe in my honor. The Danimal Crackers." "What about siblings?" Maze asked. Dan replied, "I'm an only child, Maze. Honestly, how do you not know this stuff?"
Dan stood up and walked around, stopping when he saw Ella talking with Carlos. Maze stood up and saw this, "But you have someone you care about as much as a sibling." Dan was confused, "What? I would never hurt Ella." "No," Maze replied. "But you didn't help her either, did you? If you had told her the truth sooner, you could have supported her, been there for her, while you were still alive."
Ella was still asking Carlos questions, "So your friend, Mal, who is the daughter of Maleficent and Hades, who can also turn into a dragon, is now the Queen?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah. I think she's still trying to wrap her brain around it, to be honest." They both chuckled as Maze and Dan walked over and Maze told Ella, "Uh, Dan wants to talk to you." Ella said, "Wow. OK, cool, um….Hey, Dan. I'm so sorry I didn't say this sooner, but I really miss you so, so much, and I named a frog after you." Carlos chuckled, "Could have named it Naveen. That would have been hilarious." Dan said to Maze, "Tell her I met frog Dan. And I'm super flattered, and tell her that I really miss her too. Also, tell her that her favorite beaker rolled behind her filing cabinet last week. She's been looking for that." Maze only said, "He said, "Yo."" Dan was confused, "I mean, what?" Maze scoffed, "I am summarizing." Carlos sighed, "OK, I'll tell her. Ella, Dan said that he met the frog, he's super flattered, and he misses you too. Oh, and that your favorite beaker rolled behind your filing cabinet last week." Ella smiled, "Thanks."
Dan told Maze, "Just show her the thing, OK, please?" Maze handed Ella a page from the draft, "Dan wants you to read this." Ella took the page and started to read the part about a event that happened right after the demon uprising.
(Chloe and Lucifer were at LAPD for a breather after stopping Dromos and the other demons and giving Carlos space with Jane. Ella walked over to them, "You guys, this is so weird. So, we found a bunch of bodies at a church nearby and there were prints of Kinley there. So the evidence leads to mass murder. Probably for a cult or something. Now that I get. Now, what I don't get is some of these bodies are thrashed." Chloe replied, "Yeah, yeah, I think they were into some pretty weird stuff." Lucifer agreed, "Yes, uh, downright demonic, I'd say." "I don't know," Ella said. "It's almost like some of these bodies died twice." Chloe chuckled, "Twice? What….That would be impossible, right, Lucifer? I mean…." Lucifer just chuckled quietly. Ella said, "Yeah, yeah, that's….I just must be off my game today. Uh, I'll just keep this part off the report. Oh, and tell Carlos that I'm happy that he's safe now." Ella then walked away.)
"Oh," Ella said. "Oh, OK, I get it. So, I am just a super-gullible dummy who's been covering up your celestial shenanigans for years! Ella, the unwitting accomplice strikes again! Especially when they happen to deal with Carlos almost being sacrificed to Hell!" Carlos sighed, "Ella, I don't think that's what Dan wants you to read about." Maze agreed, "Yeah, Dan wants you to keep reading." Ella sighed and kept reading.
(Chloe sighed, "What would we do without Ella, huh?" Lucifer said, "Well, for one, I'd be short a half-angel son. She really did help with this whole demon thing." Chloe sighed, "I just wish we could tell her the truth. Well, so do I, but as we've established, humans don't tend to react that well when they find out there are actual angels and demons running around even if they already know the truth in their hearts.")
"Yeah, OK," Ella said. "So I helped save Carlos after he was kidnapped. That is literally my job. You know, this whole time, I really thought that I was part of the inner circle. But I wasn't. I was just a lonely tangent." Maze sighed, "Yeah, um, Dan says that, while you may not have known the specifics, that everyone here always loved and trusted you, Ella. No, Dan, I am not saying that." Carlos walked over and said, "Dan says you are the inner circle." Ella sighed, "If you guys really trusted me, you would have told me the truth." She gave the paper back to Maze and said to Carlos, "You get a slight free pass though. You've been through a lot, so I get why you have trust issues." Ella walked away from everyone.
Chloe had moved to the penthouse to continue reading. Lucifer found her up there sitting on the balcony and asked, "What's wrong?" Chloe sighed, "Well, um, in the book, you make me sound amazing." Lucifer chuckled, "Yes, I can see how that would be upsetting." Chloe asked, "What if you think I'm smart and beautiful and perfect because you've never stuck around long enough to see me at my worst?" Lucifer replied, "Oh, well, now you're just making things up." Chloe sighed, "When Rory said that you weren't at my deathbed, you know, I thought "That's impossible. Lucifer would never abandon me." But reading this, I realize, of course you would." "Have I?" Lucifer asked. "Yes!" Chloe replied. "Every time we've had an emotional breakthrough, you've immediately gone off and disappeared." Lucifer scoffed, "Oh, come on, that can't be true." Chloe said, "No, listen to me. And now, you've told me you love me. It's the biggest breakthrough we've ever had. So I just wonder, how do I know you won't follow it up with…."
"My biggest ever disappearing act," Lucifer realized. "I would never choose to abandon you. Like I would never choose to abandon my son either." Chloe sighed, "But you can't know that." Lucifer nodded, "Yes, I can. Because it's my choice." Chloe pulled off her necklace containing the bullet from when Chloe shot Lucifer, "Like it's your choice to whip out your wings right now? Like it's your choice whether or not to let me in? You know, I wore this for so many years because it proved that you chose to be vulnerable around me, but now it's not you that decided that, it's your subconscious. Your subconscious chose to have a devil face or to bring out your wings. And reading all of this, I mean, seeing it all laid out, I just wonder, if your subconscious might choose not to stay." Lucifer shook his head, "No, I'm sorry, but I don't accept that. I've changed. I've grown. I mean, it's all in here, isn't it? It's…." Lucifer started looking through the pages and Chloe asked, "What is it?" Lucifer looked up, "There's something wrong with this book." He stood up and headed for the elevator. Chloe followed him.
Carlos was reading another section of the book when Dude had come down from the guest suite and walked over to him, "Man, how long have all of you been down here? Did you get any sleep?" "Some," Carlos answered. "I've just been trying to help my dad out. Even though he's probably putting way too much into this. At least I get to read about some of his adventures. Even though how Aunt Linda tells them is a little exaggerated. Or maybe my dad exaggerated them. I don't know." Dude asked, "Are you in the book at all?" Carlos nodded, "Here and there. But it seems that I'm only briefly talked about each time. It just seems like there's sections missing. Or maybe a whole chapter." Dude then said, "Well, when I walked over here, I saw some pages slightly sticking out of Linda's bag." Carlos looked at Dude and commanded, "Go get them for me." Dude ran over, got them using his mouth, and ran back to Carlos. Carlos took them from Dude and started to read. As he kept reading, his eyes started to glow red with anger.
Lucifer and Chloe came running down the stairs and Lucifer announced, "Gather round, people. The doctor has deceived us all. This manuscript that she's brought cuts off mid-sentence. Because you didn't bring the end of the book with you, did you?" Linda sighed, "You know what? It's true. I kept the end of the book in my office." Chloe asked, "But if this book is a case study on Lucifer, all of the important psychological insights would be in the last chapter, right? So why are you hiding it?" Linda answered, "It is my job to guide patients on their journey, not give them the answers." Ella interrupted, "Wait a second, the world is ending, and you guys are all still keeping secrets from each other? What is wrong with you people?" "Nope," Linda said. "None of this was my idea. No one was supposed to read my manuscript, least of all the patient that I was studying, because it's a first draft! Maybe years from now, when the book is published….." "Lucifer, she's gonna publish this?" Dan interrupted. "My parents are gonna see this!" Lucifer said, "Shut up, Daniel, this is not about you! It's about me."
Lucifer walked over to Linda, "You held back the end of the book because you think I'll fail, don't you? My own therapist doesn't actually believe that I'll become God." Linda didn't know what to say. Carlos then walked over, "The end wasn't the only thing she withheld. She also withheld another chapter. One all about me." He held up the pages containing said chapter and Linda paled, "Where did you get that?" Dude spoke from the floor, "I told him. You didn't do a good job of hiding it in your bag." Carlos said, "I read it. It does detail my relationship with my dad. But it also contains my personal history as well. Which I recall you saying that you would never share with anyone. Yet here it is, all written out." Linda said, "I can explain. You are a big part of your dad's life and I felt that telling your backstory would help illustrate your relationship with Lucifer." "Then why did you hide this chapter?" Carlos asked. "Tell me." Linda answered, "Because I knew how you would react." "You breached my trust," Carlos growled. "You knew I trusted you with this information and to keep it private, but you lied to me. You put it in your book, for what? Your own profit?" "It's just a rough draft," Linda replied. "I was thinking about whether or not to include it….."
"BS," Carlos said, his eyes glowing red. "You were willing to risk yourself looking silly, telling the world all about the son of the Devil who came from a parallel Earth, and Cruella De Vil is his mother. And you give an interesting take on all the woes of my childhood with her. Did you think I wanted that told to everyone who reads this?" Carlos' necklace started to glow and whether by accident or design, an illusion of Cruella De Vil appeared before everyone, startling them. Illusion Cruella started to talk, "Ha! Get up, boy! You have chores to do! Stop your whining and crying or I'll beat it out of you. Don't you dare use any of my babies as a blanket. You are to guard them. Damn ungrateful brat! You are a freak, just like your father. Go find him for all I care. I am just fine with all of my fur coats and even though I didn't get all the puppies for my dream coat, at least I got one, the baby!" She laughed evilly, making everyone shudder in fear. Cruella then disappeared as Carlos started to take deep breathes. He looked at Linda, "Do you think the world should hear about that?" He then threw the pages on the ground and stormed off to the elevator, Dude following behind. Lucifer wanted to go after him, but Chloe stopped him, "Give him some time." Ella asked, "So that's Cruella De Vil? How awful." Maze added, "She deserves to go to Hell." Linda was speechless.
Later, after people left, Dan was sitting at the bar, wishing he could pick up a glass and drink it. Maze walked over to him, "Guess the party's over, huh?" Dan nodded, "Yep." Maze saw the depressed look on Dan's face, "Dude, that is literally the most depressing thing I've ever seen." Dan shrugged, "Turns out II didn't have anywhere else to go." Maze replied, "Yeah, well, I do." Maze turned to leave, sighed, then turned back to Dan, "So let's skip the usual foreplay and get straight to the main event. OK? If you saw the moment of your death in Hell, that's the key. You relieve your death, you find your guilt." Dan sighed, "Yeah, I've been there, done that. Didn't learn a damn thing." Maze shook her head, "That cold, gnawing fear in the pit of your stomach. Feel that? That's your guilt. Now you can spend the next thousand years running away from it like a weak human, or you can dig in and sniff that shit out like a demon!" Dan closed his eyes and saw his death again, then realized, "Maze, I think you cracked it. I know what I need to do."
Carlos was sitting on the balcony of the guest suite with Dude, looking at the night sky. Dude asked, "Do you wanna talk about what happened?" "What's there to talk about?" Carlos retorted. "Aunt Linda went back on her word and took private details about my childhood and wrote them into her book." "It's only a rough draft," Dude countered. "But she still wrote them," Carlos scoffed. "She promised me that what I told her during my therapy sessions would stay between us. She betrayed my trust. End of story." Dude sighed, "You can't stay mad at her forever." "Maybe I can," Carlos argued. "I mean, yeah, her book does need editing. Like editing my bit out. But honestly, I don't understand why my dad isn't upset at this. Personally, I wouldn't want someone to write a book about me."
"Someone wrote a book?" Carlos turned to see Rory standing on the other side of the balcony. Carlos quickly dried his eyes and said, "Hey, Rory. What are you doing here?" Rory sighed, "Mom called and said that she was busy trying to save the world. I guess in reality it's all about a book." She walked over and sat next to Carlos, as Carlos explained, "Dad found out that Aunt Linda wrote a book about him, as a case study. He thinks that it will help solve the wing issue he's having. I am included in a chapter she tried to keep hidden. And that chapter has details I told her to keep secret in it. Details about….my childhood." Rory replied, "Breach of trust? Yeah, I remember you said you have trust issues. Normally I would say, "What's the harm?", but after meeting your mother, I get why you don't want your past leaked out to the world. Your mother is a bitch." Carlos chuckled, "Yes, she is. I know that I've moved past all of her abuse, but it's still there. And it's stuff that I don't really share with others, unless I trust them with that info." Rory replied, "Maybe you should just tell Aunt Linda to take that chapter out. I'm sure she'll understand. She's always had a good heart. From my memories of her." Carlos sighed, "I guess." Rory stood up. "Well, I'm about to go see Mom. Wanna come?" Carlos sighed, "Sure. I kind of exploded on everyone downstairs. I should apologize." Rory and Carlos unfurled their wings and took off to the penthouse balcony. Dude sighed, "Leaving me again, as always."
Up in the penthouse, Lucifer was reading some pages as Chloe walked over to him, "Oh, hey. Have you checked on Carlos?" Lucifer sighed, "I'm taking your advice and leaving him be for the moment. To let him cool down. But Carlos did have a point about something. Maybe this book shouldn't be published. So I don't even know why the doctor's bothering to bring back the rest of the book. Because I'm not capable of real change." Chloe sighed, "Lucifer, that isn't true." "Isn't it?" Lucifer countered. Chloe replied, "I mean, at least I don't think it is. What I do know is how much you've grown since I've met you. Since Carlos has come into your life." Lucifer sighed, "But not enough." Chloe sighed, "Honestly, I don't know if it's enough. What I said back there, I was scared. You know, I am scared. I know you don't think you'll disappear…" "I won't disappear," Lucifer interrupted. "Why would I? I have you. I have Carlos. And my future daughter. Plus, according to Rory's future, Carlos also may disappear and I know he would never do that. So I agree with him that we write our own destiny." Chloe said, "And I wanna believe that, but if you're wrong, and I'm gonna be a mom with two girls, working at the LAPD." Lucifer asked, "You're going back to the LAPD?" Chloe sighed, "I know it wasn't our plan, and I understand if you're upset." Lucifer shook his head, "No, I understand. I mean, it's who you are, isn't it? My detective. I could never be upset with you about that. And while there is a remote possibility that I may idolize you a little too much, I do know you're an amazing mother."
Chloe sighed, "I wasn't an amazing mother to Rory." "What do you mean?" Lucifer asked. Chloe said, "Just look at her wings, Lucifer. I just think, did I not protect her enough? Did I not make her feel safe? How badly did I screw up that I made our daughter self-actualize as a weapon?" Lucifer chuckled, "Oh, right, yes. I wonder where Rory got her persecution complex from. Certainly not from the angel who literally invented teenage rebellion. Blade wings? Devil face? It's all the same, isn't it?"
"No, it isn't." Lucifer and Chloe turned to see Rory standing there, with Carlos at her side. Lucifer stood up as Carlos walked forward, "Dad, Chloe, I'm sorry…" Lucifer ran over and hugged Carlos, "It's OK. Anger gets the better of us sometimes. You had a right to be angry. Having to relive bad memories is hard. Especially in someone else's words. I mean, tonight I've had to relive a lot of my memories, good and bad." Lucifer pulled away and Carlos nodded, "Thanks."
Chloe walked over and said, "Rory." Lucifer turned to Rory, "Rory, hello. What are you doing here?" Rory answered, "Mom said you guys were saving the world. I thought I'd stop by to see how it was going. Gotta say, I kind of wish I hadn't. Hindsight's a bitch, huh? Except for you, Carlos, I'm glad I cheered you up a bit." Rory turned to leave, but Chloe said, "Wait, Rory, hold on. I think, we think your wings are amazing. I just hope that you didn't feel that you had to fight or protect yourself when you we're younger. As your mom, I hope that I always made you feel safe." Rory chuckled, "I don't have these wings because of something you did wrong. I have them because of something you did right. I mean, all my life, I watched you stand up for justice. I love these badass wings 'cause they remind me of the person I admire most. My mom." "Really?" Chloe asked. Rory nodded, "Really. These wings are like, they're one of a million wonderful, powerful things that you gave me. Carlos, why are your wings the way they are?" Carlos thought for a moment, then answered, "I think because of who I am. I grew up on the side of villains, but now am on the side of heroes. I have a connection to both, and my wings symbolize that. Because I'm a VK. I'm bad, but I'm also good. If that makes sense." Rory chuckled, "Yeah. You were given a lot of great things. Unlike him."
She looked at Lucifer while she said that last part. Chloe chuckled, "Well, your angel dad probably had something to do with your wings." "Right," Lucifer added. Rory argued, "Lucifer left both of us. And probably because of him, Carlos was not a part of my life either. How can you still defend him?" Chloe replied, "Well, Rory, I mean, your dad is flawed. We all are, and, I mean, although I'm nervous about what the future holds, I guess, deep down, I just really trust him. Like Carlos does, right?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah, even with my trust issues, I trust him." "Why?" Rory asked. "He doesn't even trust himself. He doesn't know his own feelings. He had to get hit by a bullet to figure out he cared about you. Yeah, I heard you guys talking earlier. Before I went to see Carlos." Chloe sighed, "That's not necessarily fair."
"No," Lucifer said. "She's right. She is right." He dropped the pages he was holding and walked over and pulled out a gun from one of the shelves. "Dad, what are you doing?" Carlos asked. He walked over and held it in front of Rory, who asked, "What's this supposed to be?" He handed the gun to Rory and backed away, "I know how I feel about you, and I am going to prove it, young lady. I am gonna make myself vulnerable right here, right now, for you. So go on, shoot me." Chloe said, "OK, we do not shoot people in this family." "I don't know, Mom," Rory replied. "I think we established we totally do." Lucifer laughed, "I think she's got you there. Move aside, please." Carlos stepped forward, "Dad, don't…." "Don't command me," Lucifer interrupted. "I am your father, and I am ordering you to stand aside. And you, Rory, I am also your father, and I demand that you shoot me!" Chloe said to Rory, "Rory, don't listen to him. Just put down the gun." Lucifer chuckled, "No. It's the only way she's gonna believe me. Come on, Rory. You've wanted to hurt me even since you got here. So now's your chance. Pull that trigger. Go on, shoot me!" Carlos turned to Rory, "Rory, put down…"
But Rory was faster and she pulled the trigger and shot Lucifer in the leg. Lucifer didn't move and Rory said, "I knew he couldn't do it." But Lucifer held up his hand that he had on the wound and it showed blood. He then fell to the ground and everyone ran over to him. Carlos kneeled next to him, "Dad, that was one of the most idiotic things you've even done." Chloe added, "Don't you two ever do anything like that ever again." "Promise," Lucifer agreed. Rory was shocked, "It worked." Lucifer replied, "Of course it worked. You're my daughter. And I love you. Just like I love you, Carlos." Carlos sighed as he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out Mal's potion, "Open up." Lucifer did as commanded and Carlos let a few drops into Lucifer's mouth. Just then, Linda came out of the elevator, "You asked for it? Well, here it is!" She saw everyone kneeling next to Lucifer, "Lucifer, are you bleeding?" Lucifer nodded, "Yes I am. But don't worry about that. Look." Mal's potion too effect and Lucifer's leg wound closed up. Lucifer carefully stood up and told Linda, "Now hand it over. It's time to see how this story really ends."
"Before I do that," Linda said. "There's something I need to do first. And that involves you, Carlos. I'm sorry that I put in personal details about you without consulting you first. I told you in our sessions that they would stay between us, and I betrayed that trust. Therefore, I will not be including this chapter in the book. It will never see the light of day." Carlos nodded, "Thank you, Aunt Linda. My trust in you may not be back at where it was, but this is a good start. I was actually going to ask that you take the section out, but you decided it for me." Linda walked over to him, "Just remember that you don't just have bad memories. Because you also told me some good ones. Your life is full of both. You are part of a very interesting story that I know this world will never know, or believe." Carlos thought about that, and his ring started to glow. Suddenly, several images appeared around everyone, shocking them. "What is this?" Chloe asked. Lucifer realized after looking at them, "It's his memories. All of them."
They saw some of his childhood with Cruella, which made Lucifer angry, and they saw the scared, hurt boy that Carlos used to be. But they also saw other memories, when he left the Isle to go to Auradon Prep, him meeting Dude for the first time. his first Tourney game, the fight the Core 4 had against Dragon Maleficent, Carlos trying to ask Jane out to Cotillion then finally succeeding, the fight against Uma and her pirates, Cotillion itself along with Dragon Mal against Uma, VK Day, the Core 4 stopping Hades from breaking through the barrier, Carlos calming Beast Ben down, and the opening of the barrier. They also saw memories of when his celestial powers started to develop, when he would accidentally use his persuasion powers against someone, like Chad, when upset, him using them to help Beast Ben calm down, when he visited his mother to ask about said powers and receiving the ring and the name Lucifer Morningstar, and Carlos figuring out the illusion magic of his mother's ring. Then they saw memories of his time in LA, him meeting Lucifer and Chloe, his interactions with Eve, when he was kidnapped by the rebellious demons and almost sacrificed, reuniting with his dad, all the interactions with Michael, the final battle at the Coliseum, and meeting Rory. Everyone was in awe of what they saw.
Carlos closed his eyes and the images disappeared. He opened them again and turned to Linda, "You are right, Aunt Linda. I guess my story is an interesting one. But one that I'll keep to heart." Rory looked over at Carlos, amazed by what she just saw. Chloe and Lucifer smiled at Carlos. Lucifer then walked over and hugged Carlos, "Even though I wasn't part of all of it, I am glad to be a part in your story." Carlos hugged back, "Thanks, Dad." Lucifer pulled away and said to Linda, "Alright. Give me the final chapter."
Linda handed him the final chapter and Lucifer read it aloud. Rory meanwhile had grabbed other pages of the book and started to read them. Lucifer read to the group that Lucifer would thank Linda for the five years of therapy and giving him insight and wisdom to ascend the throne of Heaven, even calling her a godsend. He then unfurls his wings and ascends to Heaven in a glowing light. He sits on the throne, wearing all white along with socks and sandals, and announces his return as God Almighty, all thanks to one woman, Linda.
Lucifer stopped reading aloud and said, "This is preposterous. I mean, socks with sandals?" Linda shrugged, "What? Your dad wore them." Carlos sighed, "Aunt Linda, I think you really went into fan fiction here." Chloe asked, "But Linda, is this what you really think happens?" Linda sighed, "I don't know what's going to happen. I've been the therapist to the Devil for the last five years, and I still couldn't get him ready to be God. I'm a failure. So I wrote a fake ending to make myself feel better. Seriously, why were you bleeding?" Lucifer explained, "Oh, my daughter shot me." "What?" Linda asked. Lucifer reassured, "No, don't worry. It was completely consensual. I self-actualized vulnerability to prove a point. Plus, Carlos helped heal me."
Linda then realized, "Lucifer, your conscious and subconscious mind are finally acting in concert. Do you know what this means?" Lucifer realized what she was saying, "That I no longer have to let my wings choose whether or not I'm gonna be God." He stood up and walked over to get some space. He then unfurled his wings successfully. Chloe stood up, "So, you're finally ready to be God." Lucifer nodded, "I am. I am ready to be God. But I'm choosing not to be." Chloe was confused as Carlos stood up and saw the answer in Lucifer's eyes. Lucifer explained, "Reading the doctor's ridiculous denouement, reliving everything that we've been through here on Earth, seeing how certain you are about who you are, what you are, it's made me realize, I don't want to be God. So I'm not going to be. I mean, I think, deep down, I've always known it wasn't my calling. I've no idea what my calling is, but I do know it's not me being God. I hope you two aren't too disappointed by that."
Chloe shook her head, "No, I'm not disappointed. I could never be disappointed by who you are. I told you, I trust you." Carlos added, "I agree, the person who knows who you are is yourself. Trust me, I've always battled that with myself until I figured it out. I'm glad you did too." Lucifer looked at them, "I have no idea why you two always have so much faith in me." He hugged Carlos and then said to Chloe, "Especially you." He then gave her a kiss.
"I do." Everyone turned to look at Rory. She held up some of the pages, then said, "I mean, my whole life I listened to Mom talk about how much she loved you. Uh, kind of felt sorry for her, honestly. But after reading this, I get to see things from the other side. It's, uh, good to know that he loved you, loves you back." Chloe and Lucifer walked over to her and Chloe said, "Rory, I hope that you know now that he feels that exact same way about you." Rory nodded, "Yeah, I think I do. I mean, I've seen the way he cares about Carlos. And now I see it with me and him." Linda said, "The emotional progress you're all making here is really so beautiful. But, you know, it almost makes me forget about the whole "end of the world" situation." Lucifer replied, "Oh, right, that. Buzzkill Doctor. Well, don't worry. I'm sure Amenadiel will figure it out. He always does." "Hopefully," Carlos added.
Outside Lux, Ella was standing outside all alone. Then Carol walked up to her, "Hey." Ella replied, "Thanks for picking me up. Sorry I kind of ditched you at the wedding. Big emergency. You ever have one of those friends that, every time they have a problem, it winds up becoming…" "The end of the world?" Carol finished. Ella said, "Yeah, well, I'm really glad that you get it because I've got six of those. Seven, I guess. Just so you know." "So what's the word, then?" Carol asked. "Is the crisis averted or…?" "Not yet," Ella replied. "But, you know, given everything we've been through, I'd say I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm so sorry, I know that's like "Welcome to Vague Town, population you." Carol, I really wish that I could tell you more. I do, but it's just not my secret to share." Carol chuckled, "Ella, that's fine. I know who you are. And I trust our relationship, so you don't have to worry about that. We're good. Listen, you don't have to know every little detail about someone as long as you already know their heart." "Right," Ella replied. They leaned in and kissed each other as the lights around the outside of Lux turned off.
Lucifer escorted Linda back to her house and Linda took the entire manuscript and threw it into the fire, saying, "Couldn't save the world. Didn't even realized that my client of five years didn't wanna become God. The world's greatest therapist, my ass. More like world's biggest fraud." Lucifer said, "Doctor, sit down." She sat down and Lucifer sat next to her, "Now, you may not have helped me ascend the throne of Heaven, but you did help." "Really?" Linda asked. Lucifer nodded, "Yes. You have helped me learn to put others first. You helped me repair relationships that had been broken for, well, millennia. You've helped me truly connect with the love of my life. And you've helped me connect with the two children I didn't know I had. Dr. Linda Martin, P-H-Y and all those things. In our time together, you managed to do something not even God almighty was able to accomplish. You've made me a better man." Linda started to cry, "Thank you, Lucifer. That's the best compliment a therapist could receive." Then they hugged each other, and Linda almost fell asleep in Lucifer's arms. Lucifer gently awoke her and Linda said, "Sorry. It's just been the longest day ever." "Hasn't it?" Lucifer replied. Linda nodded, "So, if you'll excuse me, I have a very important appointment with a warm, soft bed." Lucifer agreed, "A well earned rest." Lucifer then left so Linda could sleep.
He returned to the penthouse, where Carlos was waiting with Dude. "What are you still doing up?" Lucifer asked. Carlos answered, "I was thinking about everything that happened today. And, well it did make me angry for a little bit, it also made me realize that I have good memories. And I want to go make some more." He held up the box containing the engagement ring he got for Jane. Lucifer realized, "You're ready to propose to Jane?" Carlos nodded, "Yeah, so I want to head back to Auradon for the day. I'll be back in a couple days. Dude's coming, of course." "It'll be good to see everyone," Dude said. Carlos chuckled, "Yeah, that's true. So don't do anything crazy while I'm gone. OK, Dad?" Lucifer laughed, "I promise." Carlos added, "Call me if trouble arises. I still remember the whole world ending thing. Just remember, we write our own destiny." He then opened a portal and Carlos and Dude walked through it.
Lucifer then poured himself a glass and put on a classic record. He walked out to the balcony and took a sip as he heard wings flapping. Amenadiel had arrived back and walked over to Lucifer, "I know why the world is ending. We need to talk." Lucifer sighed, "Bollocks."
