Hello! Thank you for taking the time to read my story! The chapters are all going to be this short. I will update around every single day, or when I can. This is not my first Marvel fanfiction, but possibly my best by far. I hope you enjoy reading it. Please leave a review!

*Anna May POV*

Anna May shrieked. Ducking into an empty alleyway, she grabbed the sleeve of her best friend and dragged him in with her. Before he could scream too, she clamped a hand over his mouth and slammed him against the wall.

The two of them waited in silence for a whole two minutes. Eventually the police passed, running straight by the alley without even stopping or seeing the kids. Anna May sensed Wybie's trembling, saw the fear in his eyes. Eventually it faded away and left her with an old friend. Her partner in crime.

Brave Wybie, who agreed to run away from the orphanage with her.

Funny Wybie, who constantly imitated her southern accent.

Wimpy Wybie, who wet his pants.

"I'm sorry!" Wybie hissed, as Anna May stepped away from him and groaned. Now she felt disgusting, rubbing her hands on Wybie's own shirt to rid herself of the germs. They were stuck together in this thin alleyway, but they had to move soon. It wouldn't be long before the policemen came back and kept looking for them.

"Pull yourself together." Anna May rolled her eyes. "You still have the watch?"

"Of course." Out of his pocket, Wybie conjured a golden pocket watch. The two young thieves had stolen it from a small, family-owned jewelry store in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

The watch seemed to be made of pure gold. It was hard to tell, so Anna May had gone out on a limb and stolen it anyway. Wybie, forever her loyal sidekick, had helped out with the distraction part. In the chase the watch ended up with a few scratches on the glass lens, but nothing major.

Sunlight reflected off the shiny metal, practically burning into Anna May's eyes. The hands on the watch ticked restlessly, as if counting down the seconds to her doom. Anna May shuddered. She grabbed the watch out of Wybie's hands and inspected it closer.

"This sure looks like real gold. Look, it even has some weird number code on it."

"Spoken like a true thief." Wybie grinned. Obviously he was being sarcastic, because the two of them had only been considering themselves "thieves" for the past three weeks.

After running away from the orphanage in New Orleans, they managed to make it all the way to Baton Rouge by themselves. A few train rides and friendly strangers along the way helped. It seemed a lot easier than Anna May had expected; escaping an orphanage and becoming fugitives.

Now they spent most of their time stealing things. Almost a year ago, they had settled into their new "home," a tent on the roof of a factory. There they slept, ate, talked, and stashed their stolen things. Oftentimes they traded them for food and supplies.

Anna May slipped the watch into her jeans pocket. She reached out and tousled Wybie's hair. It was longish and dyed blue, with blonde streaks sticking out at his scalp. Anna May loved his hair. She kept trying to convince him to redye it with more blue, but Wybie always shrugged off the thought.

The two runaways both had interesting features. In addition to Wybie's blue hair, Anna May's was bright orange. It was all natural, along with her freckles and chocolate-brown eyes. At least that's how Wybie described the color of her eyes.

Their bright features and sparky personalities didn't exactly help them blend in to the crowd. But Anna May and Wybie tried their best.
