Hey everyone,

I hope all is well and I am so sorry for getting you all (hopefully) excited thinking that this is a new update because, unfortunately, it is not. Too much time has passed since my last update and I hope you all believe me when I say I am sincerely sorry for that. A very minor part of my absence is due to an abrupt disinterest in Linstead and Chicago PD as a whole; a major part of my absence is due to the fact that, for the last few months, I have been without my computer and as a result, no longer have access to the document I wrote this story in. Frustration is by no means a strong enough word to describe what being computer-less has been, but oddly enough, it has been a small blessing because it gave me a pretty solid excuse to step away from this story and fall back in love with writing for the fun of it and not because I feel obligated to post a new chapter as often and as quickly as I can.

With a now burning desire to return to this story and give it (and you!) the proper ending that it deserves, I am super excited to say that finally, FINALLY I am in the process of getting a new computer and will *fingers crossed* be returning to writing in the very near future! I want to say now that, unless you all express otherwise, this story will reach its conclusion. I can't promise that it will be great, hell; I can't even promise that it will be good, but I can promise that 'Back to You' will be finished at some point.

However, telling you all this is not the main reason why I decided to post this author's note.

This past week marked the one year anniversary of me posting the first three chapters of this story. I know I have written this a few times, but when I first started this little project, it was not supposed to amount to anything- five chapters max. And now, a year later, I am plotting out the twenty-ninth chapter which is SO crazy to me. I am not blinded to the fact that it is because of you all that this story has even made it thus far, which brings us to the main reason for why I decided to steal what should be a chapter post space and replace it with this note.

Thanks a million to you all for reading and commenting on this little story of mine. Again, I truly expected nothing to come of the one thing I turned towards to escape boredom during this whole pandemic and now, here it is a full year later with close to 60,000 views and 300+ reviews. To say I am mind blown is an understatement and I love and appreciate you all for enjoying this as I have thus far. You have been an absolute joy to write for and I mean it when I say that I look forward to seeing all of your thoughts on each new chapter. Frankly, and at the risk of sounding cliché and corny, you all have inspired me to turn my original five chapters into this massive project that has now surpassed 200,000 words and 400 Word Document pages. Each and every one of you have been the reason I have not given this up by now and are the reason I am pushing myself to keep this going. The support and love you have shown my story and I is astounding and far more than I ever could have hoped for and I really and truly will never be able to express to you how grateful I am for it. Writers on here say this all the time, but posting stories is merely something we do for fun and it is a remarkable thing to see our hobby being received favorably.

Claudia, FemaleCopsRule, breakingbethany, SulliMacintosh, HannonsPen, bowlingbabe297, Daintyy and LinsteadLove10: I'd like to take a moment to thank you all in particular for consistently reviewing each chapter with beautiful insights and critiques. Each of you have given me the most helpful feedback and have even gone as far as helping me narrow down plot ideas and story lines that I struggled to grapple with on my own. I have enjoyed interacting with each and every one of you. You guys are the absolute best and stupidly, I can't find much more than that to say about you.

To wrap this up, I just want to reiterate my promise that this story has not been abandoned and my gratitude for all of the love and support it has been given for the past year. Love you all and can't wait to start posting again soon!

Xx,

M.

PS: My PMs are always open if anyone wants to talk, send ideas, or whatever 3

PPS: Yes, I am very aware that this ended up being extremely cliché and corny…sorry not sorry!
