1.

Shirayuki was sitting in her lab. it's only been a few short weeks since she was given the title of court herbalist. All her hard work had paid off. Leaning back in her chair she stretched her arms up and looked out the window to her right. 'It sure is a beautiful day. I wonder what Zen is doing about now?' she thought. Now that she was an official court herbalist she was able to conduct a lot more experimenting with different herbs, some that are to be used with high caution. Currently she was working on creating a tincture to help aid with sleep.

"Alight, I just need to grind these herbs together and let them soak for a week." She said. Walking over to a small cabinet she pulled out a few jars, read the labels and put one jar back. She took her measuring tool and scooped what she needed out of the jar. Using her grinding tool she ground her concoction to the perfect consistency. Grabbing her funnel she carefully poured her mix into the jar, "That should about do it." she smiled at her work. She put the lid on and went to another cabinet and set the tincture inside to sit.

"Wow, looks like you made quite the progress on that tincture. This place is a mess." A voice sounded from behind. "Oh, Chief," Shirayuki said surprised. "I just finished it, I changed a few herbs this time, I think it will be strong enough to keep a giant asleep for hours." she giggled, then realizing maybe she shouldn't have said that. Her face turned a slight shade of red.

"That's what I like to hear, I like your confidence, that's exactly why you are a court herbalist. You have grown so much and have come such a long way." She said, meanwhile Shirayuki's face remained red, her fate lead her to Zen which lead her to the castle, she felt like crying. "Thank you Chief Garack, I will continue to learn and work hard everyday!"

"Shirayuki." Garack said, "I have something I want you to look over for me and tell me what you think." She handed over a piece of paper to her. She looked over it briefly. "What would you like assistance with?" She asked.

"I have been revising my healing salve recipe. I have been putting together new first aid kits for the soldiers, I've gotten feedback that we need something stronger, something to work faster and longer. I thought I could use a second opinion."

"Annd you're asking me." she said in a low voice. 'She could have asked Ryuu for help, but she asked me first?"

"What was that Shirayuki?" She asked

"Oh, it's nothing, I would be honored to look over this."

"Great! I am counting on you, and please be safe if you find yourself travelling."

"Of course, thank you."

"Thank you, report back when you can." The chief walked out leaving Shirayuki alone in her lab. She looked out the window and back to the paper that the Chief gave her. "This is a great opportunity. I guess I better get to work."

'So this salve has some basic ingredients, all great for inflammation and pain but how to make it stronger?' she wondered, she grabbed a few books and her herb journal she had back when she was learning under her grandparents. "Lets see," She began to flip page after page. "None of these are right?" she thought aloud.

"What isn't quite right, Miss?" Shirayuki turned around and saw Obi in the window. "Ah, Obi! You know you should stop sneaking up on me." She said with the kindest voice.

"Sorry about that miss, but about what you said before.."

"Oh, Uh, the Chief Herbalist gave me a task and I am trying to figure something out."

"I see, what are you trying to figure out?"

"The soldiers need a stronger salve to help with pain and inflammation while in battle. Or if they get attacked by an animal. Basically a fast acting salve to help with open wounds or internal pain."

"Ah, can you use anything around here?" Obi asked resting his back against the seal of the window. Hes' assisted her in her work before. He didn't know much about plants but he knew she usually found what she needed in the court garden.

"No, I don' think what we have here at the castle will wo-" she stopped short and grabbed her journal and flipped half way through it. "I wonder if that would work?" she read the passage over a few times, remembering what her grandmother had told her.

"Obi, we need to take a trip to Tanbarun,"

"May I ask why, Miss?"

"When my grandparents were training me to become an herbalist, they told me of a rare plant that grows in Yama. It's called Midori Bud. It's a beautiful green herb, when ready to harvest it becomes crystallized. I've never seen it in person but it's supposed to be strong in scent and can be as tall as a human. The medicinal properties are supposed to cure any and all pain. The herb needs a sunny place to grow. Yama has the perfect soil and weather for growth."

"Wow, sounds like we have an adventure ahead." Shirayuki nodded, they did indeed have an adventure ahead though there is a chance they wont find the Midori bud and the trip will be for nothing. She also hoped that Zen would come with her, like when they first met in the woods. Would he be okay with her traveling to Tanbarun, They would have to let Prince Raji know they were in the Kingdom, which could extend the trip longer than necessary. She had to see Zen and let him know.

"Yes, do you know where Zen is?" she asked eager to know what he thought.

"Of course, right this way, Master will be happy to see you." Obi climbed through the window and shut the screen. Leading Shirayuki out of the medicinal hall to where the prince was working.

...

"Mitsuhide, how much more of this is there?" The prince asked his trusted knight. He had been doing paperwork since he woke, he needed a break, to stretch his legs even if that met stretching them all the way to see Shirayuki. "Not much more of this, I promise, then you can go and see her. Though I hear she's working harder than ever now that she's an official Court herbalist." Mitsuhide said. Zen gave him a look but grabbed the next stack of papers and went back to work.

Kiki and Mitsuhide both exchanged a glance, 'He falls for that one every time, though it's true, Shirayuki is always working hard, which really does motivate the prince.'

A knock sounded on the door. "Master, may I enter?" a voice called from the other side. "Why so formal Ob-" the prince started to say but before he finished he realized obi wasn't alone.

"Shirayuki" Zen gasped in relief. Her face lit up his world. She was smiling but he could tell she had something on her mind.

"Zen" She said walking further into the room. "I have something to tell and ask you." Zen got up from his desk and walked around it until he was standing only a foot away from her. She could smell his scent making her light headed. Her memory was flooded back to a few weeks ago on top of the tower in the flower garden. The place they can be alone.

"Uh, Shirayuki, is everything alright?" he asked her with worry in his voice, her face went bright red almost the shade of her hair. "Oh, it's nothing" she said "The reason i'm here is because the chief gave me an assignment to help with a salve for the soldiers," she told him and everyone else.

"That's wonderful, I am sure you'll do great!" It was amazing how quickly she learned and how fast she was to react in any situation. Prince Zen admired that about her so much. "Zen, an herb I believe to be the key ingredient is located in Yama, Tanbarun. It's rare, I don't even know if I will find it but I have to try."

"Sounds like an adventure," Zen said gazing into her eyes gleaming with curiosity and lust. Her heart skipped a beat as his velvety words hit her ears. Little did she know this was just what he needed. A chance to escape the castle, not signing anymore documents. Plus a week long trip where he got to see and spend time Shirayuki all day. Doesn't matter where they had to travel too.

"Should I send word to Prince Raji?" Mitsuhide asked.

"Yes, make sure he knows it will be a quick visit to say our hello and then we'll be on our way. I'm sure Shirayuki is eager to find her treasure and put it to use." She glanced in his direction surprised that he was in favor of her trip. No hesitation at all.

"Of course, i'll get it sent right away." Mitsuhide left the room and went to the new bird hall to pay Kihal and Popo a visit.

"Kiki, ready the horses for our trip." Still gazing into each others eyes. Shirayuki smiled at zen. "Thanks, I'll go pack some of my things."

"I will come for you when we are ready." Zen told her before taking her hand and kissing it softly. "See you soon."

Her heart fluttered all the way back to her room. She packed what she needed and changed out of her court uniform. The last thing she grabbed was her herb journal and dictionary.

It wasn't long before a knock on her door grabbed her attention. Bending the corner of her book she set it aside. She opened the door to see Zen. "You ready?" he asked extending his hand. "Yes" she took his hand. "Are you sure?" she asked, feeling a little silly by the question. She knew how he felt and he knew how she felt but it wasn't time to go public. There are rules that must be followed. Still, Shirayuki loved every private moment. "Don't worry, I didn't see anyone on my way here. At least until we get out of the wing." He glanced at her and smiled. She squeezed his hand gently returning the smile.

...

Kiki had the horses readied, she stood along with Mitsuhide and Obi, while they waited for the Prince and Shirayuki's arrival. "If they take any longer, it's going to be dark by the time we get there."Mitsuhide commented.

"Be careful what you say, you remember the last time you hustled the prince" Kiki teased

"Don't remind me," Mitsuhide shuddered at the memory. After a few more minutes of waiting they arrived at the gate. "Everything packed and ready for our excursion?" Prince Zen asked.

"Yes, everything is ready and accounted for. I had Kihal send our message, it should get there any moment now."

"Very good, now lets be on our way. Shirayuki?" Zen called out

"Yes?"

"Would you please do me the honor of riding with me?" the prince not only asked her to ride on his horse with him but he also bowed. Mitsuhide, Kiki and Obi all gasped in shock. Seems they are getting comfortable with there relationship around those closest to them. "Of course, Zen." she responded to his question.

Obi almost said something sarcastic but decided to bite his tongue. The three watched and whispered among themselves as Zen helped Shirayuki on to his horse.

"I'm not going to tell him this is a bad idea but he does risk being seen. They aren't ready to be public." Mitsuhide said.

"If you ask me, I think Master was getting jealous of our close proximity." Obi added.

"Oh I say let them do what makes them happy." Kiki said.

"Oh that's interesting coming from you." Mitsuhide said, she rolled her eyes and spoke again.

"And what's that supposed to mean? All three of us know those two are in love, it's only a matter of time. Why not let them enjoy what comes natural. Zen knows what he's doing, we should all trust that."

"Well put Kiki-" Mitsuhide was cut off by the prince yelling at them.

"Hey, are you three done with your pow wow or can we get a move on?" They all looked over to see the prince and his princess on horse back both smiling in the glimmering sunlight. Shirayuki let out a giggle, she sat in front of Zen on his horse. She could feel the prince's warmth on her back. They were so close, she couldn't help the permanent blush that was on her cheeks. Normally she would ride behind obi on his horse, this was different.

"Yeah, we're coming." The voices from the others distracted Shirayuki's thoughts for the better. They had a goal, a destination an adventure was waiting for them.

Alright, that's it for chapter one. Let me know what you think. Chapter 2 will be out soon!
