Prologue

THERE WAS ONCE A GIRL who prayed to Apollo, the god of truth, the sun, and music, and more, for seven days, barely taking any time to eat or sleep. And when she was asked what she wanted by Apollo, she just smiled and claimed that all she desired was a flute.

And so, Apollo gave her one.

The girl played the flute every day, and anywhere she wished; on the streets, at home, it didn't matter, so long as she got to play somewhere. Her music was unparalleled; there was a sweet, melodic divinity to it that eased all worries, all tensions, and released them to the wind. Talent scouts would offer her opportunities, and people would ask her when she paused if she was a professional. But she denied it all with a small smile, and claimed that it was a hobby.

But then a certain goddess gave her an opportunity she couldn't turn down.

The girl had never gone to Camp Half-Blood or Camp Jupiter, so there was no one to guide her otherwise. She listened to the goddess carefully; and during the second Titan War, she climbed to the highest part of the battlefield and began to play her flute. The enchanting, siren-like song carried to the ears of the farthest demigods and monsters alike; and soldiers from both sides stopped everything to listen, bewitched, not noticing that the fallen had begun to rise again until it was too late.

The girl delayed the outcome of the battles horribly, allowing the dead to kill monsters and demigods without discrimination until everyone fled when they heard the sound of her flute. And while they ran, they thought they could hear her laugh; soft and melodic and beautiful and malicious.

But then the war was over, and the gods arrested her for her crimes against Olympus, humanity, and even order itself. No one except for the Olympians knew what happened to her; but most assumed she was dead.

But that proved to be a mistake—or maybe it wasn't, and something even darker was at play. Either way, two years later, the girl came back.

And it was my job to stop her.

I'm sure you're wondering why I'm posting a new fanfiction when I already need to work on having more consistent updates for When Wishes Come True and Heartless. Honestly, I am, too. But fear not! I shall grace you guys with the beautiful lie I'm telling myself while publishing this!

Unless you don't care. In that case, just skip to the end to answer the questions.

Or skip that too.

Anyway, I've decided to post this because I really like the idea I have for The Girl with the Flute. I mean, it may not be a good idea, and I may not even finish this story—which is quite probable, considering my track record—but I really like it.

There. That's my reason.

Hopefully, you don't have to deal with people like me in real life (lol).

Questions:

1. What do you think of the prologue?

2. What do you think of the synopsis? (I wrote cover earlier, sorry about that!)

Please review!
