The man locked the door behind them, when some people began banging on the security blind, Eloise screamed and clung to her mother.
"It's ok, Bebita, you are safe in here ok?" Liza said as she cupped her crying daughter's face in her hands and pulled her into her body.
"Do you have a back door?" Travis asked, peering outside from the security screen "Access to the ally?"
"There is no other door." The man firmly said as Travis started walking toward the back of the room, to an archway.
"Travis, please" Liza begged Travis as he walked through the back curtain to the man's house
"Travis" Liza kept repeating, following Travis through the curtain "this is their home" Eloise and Chris followed closely behind.
"Daniel," The Spanish woman called to Daniel.
"Do you have access to the roof?" Travis asked, now standing inside the family's lounge room.
"Travis, can you please not go in there," Liza yelled to her husband.
"We can see what's coming," Travis continued.
"You will be fine in there" Daniel responded, pointing toward the barbershop, now walking toward Travis.
"I think it will be safer if we stay away from the front door." Travis responded.
"Mama?" Eloise looked up at her mom, Liza pulled her close, shushing her.
"No, I think you will be safer in there" Daniel said, pointing again, toward the barbershop.
"Papa, I thought you were locking up?" a young woman asked, emerging from a room off of the lounge.
"Ofelia," Daniel said, then continuing in Spanish.
"Are you ok?" Ofelia asked her father.
"We're fine." Daniel responded.
"Who are you?" Ofelia asked, now directing her attention toward Travis.
"I'm, I'm sorry I- I'm Travis, this is my family, we just need somewhere to ride it out, and then we'll go." Travis stuttered.
Gunshots and car alarms wailed out on the streets, frightening Eloise, who gripped onto her mother and let out a small squeal in response.
Ofelia took notice of the small child, then looked to her father "It's ok, papa. Please, have a seat in there." She directed the family toward the barbershop.
"Thank you, thank you, I'm sorry." Travis responded, then headed into the barbershop with his family.
"Sorry," Liza joined.
"Take a seat," Travis said, lightly grabbing Chris' shoulder.
Chris took a seat, as the family spoke in Spanish behind the curtain.
"Mama, I wanna go home," Eloise cried to her mother.
Liza sat in a chair, and cradled Eloise in her lap "It's ok, Bebita, we will be home soon, ok?" she said, as she kissed Eloise on the forehead and gently rubbed her arm as she rocked her.
Everyone tried to settle as the noises continued outside. Chris walked over to the window to look outside to see what was going on.
Travis wandered back over to the curtain as Ofelia was switching off the lights "Thank you" Travis said to Daniel, who was doing a puzzle.
"Thank my wife," Daniel said, without turning to look at the man.
The sound of cars crashing emerged outside "This is insane" Chris said.
"Chris, get away from the window. Travis instructed, heading over to Chris.
Chris turned to his father, "Can't make anything out"
"You don't wanna see anything out there" Travis responded, pulling Chris away from the window "Ok, just, come on, step away… Sit down."
