Prowl drove up to the old building and transformed. Nightbeat, Sideswipe and Sunstreaker did the same. Someone had reported hearing strange noises coming from the abandoned energon refinery and Prowl had assembled a team to investigate.

"Jetfire, see anything up there?" Prowl asked over his comlink.

"Nothing, Prowl. And the only signatures I'm picking up belong to you guys". Jetfire answered as he circled the area in jet mode.

"Okay, come on down".

In a minute, Jetfire dropped to the ground near his companions. "Who's going in the spooky old building first?" he asked playfully.

"There's nothing spooky about it", Prowl said, leading the way. "The noises are probably some turbofoxes holed up in here or a machine trying to start up".

"But how would a machine be trying to start up with no one here?" Nightbeat asked, always looking for a mystery.

"It was just a guess. That's why we're here, to find out what is making the noise". Prowl said, shining his headlights around the large room they had entered.

"It's creepy in here, I don't like it". Sunstreaker spoke up.

"Me either, I heard this place is haunted". Sideswipe said, staying glued to Sunstreaker's side. "That's why it was shut down".

Prowl stopped walking and turned to face them. "That is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. It's not haunted. They shut it down because they decided it was too far away from an energon source so they built a new one closer. This whole section of Iacon is pretty much abandoned. Everyone wants to live closer to the center of the city". Seeing the twins weren't fully convinced, Prowl continued. "It's not haunted, I promise. The only thing we'll find in here - if we find anything - will be some turbofoxes or possibly some squatter".

They came to a hall with a room on each side.

"Sideswipe, you and Sunstreaker take the room on the right, We'll take the left one". Prowl said.

"By ourselves?! What if something's in there?" Sideswipe asked.

"You have a comlink". Prowl said as he led Jetfire and Nightbeat into the left room.

"After you". Sunstreaker said, giving a mock bow.

"Shut up".

The room was full of old metal crates.

"There's a ton of places something could hide". Sideswipe said, looking around. "On the bright side, I'm not picking up any energy signatures".

"We'll just take a quick peek behind all these crates, then leave". said Sunstreaker. After a few minutes of peeking around the crates, Sunstreaker became aware of Sideswipe breathing down his neck.

"Look, I know you're creeped out, but give me some space will ya?" The breathing continued.

"I said knock it off!"

"Knock what off?"

Sunstreaker glanced over to see Sideswipe come from around a stack of crates. A look of shock crossed Sideswipe's face and Sunstreaker slowly turned around, coming face-to-face with a giant Insecticon-like creature. Sunstreaker ducked away and Sideswipe fired a shot. The creature growled and lunged at them. Yelling, the twins ran toward the directions the others had taken.

Meanwhile, Prowl, Nightbeat and Jetfire had found an empty room, with nothing but a table in it.

Nightbeat walked around the room, looking for clues. "Hey, look at this". he said. Prowl and Jetfire stood next to him.

"I give up, what did you find?" Prowl asked.

"It's part of an exoskeleton". Nightbeat explained, holding up the small piece of shell. "Only, it's not entirely metallic". He handed it to Jetfire.

"Hm. It almost looks organic, but Cybertronian at the same time". Jetfire mused. "Strange…"

"So what, are you going to tell me there's some kind of Cyber-organic monster in here?" Prowl asked, looking irritated.

"Speaking of monsters, maybe we should check on the twins". Nightbeat said.

"Mm". Prowl opened his comlink. "Sunstreaker? Sideswipe?"

No answer.

"Now what are they-"

The three heard yelling and the twins burst into the room, ran into Jetfire and fell to the floor.

"What happened?" Jetfire asked, helping them up.

The two started talking at once.

"There's a monster in there!"
"It tried to attack us!"

"We gotta get out of here!"

"I think we made it mad!"

"Hold on", Prowl said, making a calming motion with his hands. "What did it look like?"

"Like an Insecticon, only uglier! And it's huge!" Sideswipe exclaimed.

"Like Jetfire huge!" Sunstreaker added.

"Let's go see if we can find it, I want a look". Prowl said, heading for the hall.

"What if it eats us?!" Sideswipe asked.

"I think the five of us can handle one Insecticon". Prowl smirked. "Besides, if it is hungry, Jetfire should make a sizable meal that will give the rest of us a chance to escape".

Jetfire made a face at him.

There was no sign of the Insecticon in the room the twins had come from, nor was it in the main room of the refinery.

"Are you absolutely sure you saw something?" Prowl asked.

"Yes we're sure!" Sunstreaker snapped. "It was breathing down my neck!"

"I want to go back to the room we were in with the table". said Nightbeat.

"What do you hope to find in here?" asked Jetfire.

Nightbeat was crawling on the floor. "I was just thinking, this looked like a big building from the outside, but there were only three rooms. So I'm wondering if there's a secret entry to another wing of the building".

"You've been reading too many mystery datapads". Prowl said.

Nightbeat stood from examining the table legs. "Hey Prowl, come here for a second". Prowl walked over to the table. "I think there are some hinges at the bottom of the front legs. Do you think you can…"

Prowl grabbed the edge of the table and flipped it. A section of the back wall slid open.

"Nice one!" Nightbeat said, giving Prowl a pat on the shoulder.

They made their way down the hall and the wall slid back into place.

"Great, now we'll be stuck in here". Sunstreaker grumbled.

"If there was a way in, there's a way back out". said Nightbeat as he led the way down the hall.

"What if that monster lives in here?" Sideswipe asked. "We'll be trapped with it! And it will be your fault!"

"Don't worry, Shaggy", Nightbeat joked. "I'll buy you and Scooby an Engex when we get home".

"Watch the name calling, Fred!" Sideswipe yelled.

"Yeah!" Sunstreaker added. "If we're Shaggy and Scooby that would make Jetfire Velma".

"Hey! Don't drag me into your argument!". Jetfire yelled. "Nobody wants to be Velma!"

"Quite down, all of you!" Prowl snapped.

"Come on, I was just joking…" Nightbeat said. "Daphne".

Prowl shot Nightbeat a hard glare and stormed ahead, followed by Sideswipe and Sunstreaker.

"Sheesh, you guys can not take a joke!" Nightbeat said. To his surprise, Prowl and the twins disappeared.

"Where'd they go?!" Jetfire asked, walking forward.

Nightbeat put his arm out to block Jetfire. "It must have been a trap door". he said. "We need to find a way to open it". he spied a keypad on the wall. "Maybe that would do it".

"You shouldn't start pressing buttons when you don't know what they do". Jetfire said, looking around for something that might fall down on them.

"It'll be fine". Nightbeat said. "We've gotta find a way to open that door".

"We could just follow them down". Jetfire suggested.

Nightbeat pressed a button. A wall slammed down in front and behind them, trapping them.

"Nice goin' detective!" Jetfire said.

"Don't worry, I'll just push the same button".

To their horror, the walls started slowly closing in. Jetfire leaned on one of them, hoping to stop it.

"Okay, I see what I'm doing". Nightbeat pressed another button. The walls started moving slightly faster. Jetfire leaned harder and braced his feet against the other wall.

"What did you do?!" he yelled.

"Hold on, I'll fix it!"

The walls continued closing, Jetfire braced with all his strength, but still the walls were closing. The space was getting tighter.

"Nightbeat, I can't keep this up forever!" Jetfire grunted.

"Hang on, buddy, I think I've almost got it". Nightbeat said, still pressing buttons.

Jetfire's gears were starting to grind.

"Nightbeat!"

"Almost…"

Jetfire's knees were almost to his chest.

"NIGHTBEAT!"

"Got it!"

The walls stopped moving and Jetfire slid down the wall and hit the floor with a thud. He sighed as the walls slid back into place and went back into the ceiling.

"Now, shall we just keep going and see if we fall down the trap door, too?" Jetfire asked, standing up and stretching his back.

"Uh...sure". Nightbeat said, feeling a little sheepish. He and Jetfire, still holding his back, walked to the spot Prowl and the twins had vanished. The floor gave way and they landed in a dark room.

"Prowl?" Nightbeat called. He shined a light around and noticed another hall. "They must have gone this way. Come on".

Jetfire sighed and followed Nightbeat. 'Fred' was going to owe 'Velma' an Engex after this.
