"What do you think that one looks like?" Gohan pointed up a cloud in the bright blue sky.
"That one? I think it looks like your mom!" Trunks giggled, his head resting on his folded jacket which acted like a pillow.
"My mom? I don't see it." Gohan squinted at it, not understanding.
"Well, the top looks like the top of her hair and those two parts look like the parts that hang down by her ears and look, there's her chin-" Trunks replied and Gohan interrupted,
"Oh, I see what you mean! You can almost see her angry face in it." He grinned and Trunks laughed aloud.
It was a perfect day.
Nothing to bother them, their mothers, responsibilities or the threat of an attack, though it had been a while, but Trunks did his best to suppress that sense of dread.
The pair had been laying out on the grass for around an hour now after a session of sparring that morning.
"That one looks like..." Gohan started but then shook it off, "Nevermind."
"What? Tell me!" Trunks demanded.
"I...was gonna say it looked like your dad." Gohan answered, turning away from the boy.
"Oh...I guess." Trunks smiled softly recalling the picture his mother had. It was the only picture they could find of him, and one Trunks could remember staring at from a young age imagining the sound of his voice to the feel of his fingers running through his hair, a foolish thing to imagine now, he concluded.
There was a silence for a while, not even the birds chirped, until Gohan sat up, suggesting another spar.
"Alright...you promised to teach me how to develop my own moves!"
"Did I?" Gohan raised an eyebrow.
"Yeah, the other day when I was talking to you before I went to bed!"
Trunks placed his hands on his hips, trying to be assertive, though he did always feel small compared to his master, especially with his oversized jumper that went down to the middle of his thighs when untucked from his pants.
"I guess I do remember that now, actually...alright, I'll teach you then."
The two made their way down to more solid ground, the breeze blowing the orange dust into Trunks' eyes, but he pretended it didn't bother him.
"So, think about what you want it to do...a beam? Scattered ki blasts? Is the ki coming from your hands or your body?" Gohan asked, holding a large amount of ki concentrated on the tip of his index finger.
Trunks paused to think, then answered, "Uhh, I think it will be a concentrated blast...using both my hands?"
"You think or you know?" Gohan loved asking questions like that, encouraging certainty in his student. He always told Trunks that there was no time for sitting on the fence during a battle.
"I know, I can feel it!" Trunks had a determined glint in his eye as he gathered energy in his hands.
"Good, good...the next step may take a few tries...the move has to feel natural to you and be effective. Moves that take a long time to do will give you more ki, but that may not be the best choice in a high speed battle."
Gohan advised, stepping back a little.
Trunks held the growing ball of ki above his head and with a grunt threw it at a nearby rock, obliterating it, making Gohan choke on his dust.
"Well...a little overkill, but it has good accuracy and speed...keep trying and make adjustments!" Gohan sat beneath a tree, avoiding the heat of the suns rays as he watched Trunks carefully.
Trunks repeated the actions several times, making a mental note of the steps, honing his skills and creating something he felt confident in.
"Good! But now is a very tricky step: naming your move." Gohan chimed in, suggesting some ideas, but none sounded good enough for Trunks.
"Okay...well, when I created the Masenko, I wanted it to sound good and be relatively easy to say...or you could leave it as a move you don't say the name of-"
"It's lame if you don't say the move!" Trunks cut in, rather rudely.
"Just do it a few more times and say a few things, try not to think too hard about it." Gohan witnessed his student perform the move again, and was impressed by how well he had gotten the hang of ki control.
Holding the blast above his hands again, Trunks automatically said the words "Finish Buster!" as he launched it. He didn't have to think about it, it just felt right as it fired.
"Finish Buster? Don't you think it's a little-" Gohan tried to suggest something else but Trunks rolled his eyes,
"Gohan, this is my move! And I can make a theme out of it!"
"If you say so." Gohan shrugged and checked the time on his phone.
"How about we get some lunch, little bro?"
Upon the word lunch, Trunks' stomach growled.
"I'll take that as a yes then!" Gohan responded, taking his things and the two set off.
As they flew, Trunks smirked, thinking to himself,
'Finish Buster...that's so freakin' cool.'
