Thomas and Friends: The Narrow-Gauge Adventure Begins

If you were to do some sight-seeing around the Island of Sodor, then you'd probably find a place that has a lake in the woods, and a beautiful waterfall. You may also find a small narrow-gauge railway that runs by the North Western Railway called the Skarloey Railway. It is run by two little engines called Skarloey and Rheneas. They know everyone and everyone knows them. Their passenger and goods trains are usually packed, and the engines are proud to run the line come rain or shine. Their coaches have names: Agnes, Ruth, Lucy, Jemima, and Beatrice. Both engines will never let their passengers down, but they are old and tire easily. Their owner understood this, and one day, had great news for them.

Mr. Brown: There's more than enough work for you both on this railway. So I just bought two new engines to help you run the line and give you a big break.

Skarloey: (sighs) Oh, thank you, sir!

Rheneas: It'll be very nice to have a break.

Mr. Brown: The engines will arrive this evening, and I expect that you will give them both a warm welcome.

Skarloey and Rheneas: Yes, sir!

When the two new engines arrived that evening, the owner and Thin Controller were waiting for them.

Mr. Brown: Ah, you two must be Falcon and Stuart, my new engines. Welcome to the Skarloey Railway. I am Mr. Brown, the owner, and this is Mr. Sam, the Thin Controller.

Stuart and Falcon: Pleased to meet you, both.

Mr. Sam: We're very pleased to meet you both too.

Mr. Brown: How would you like it, if we gave you both new names?

Falcon: That would be great. We're kind of getting tired of our old names, and would like something new.

Mr. Brown: OK, then. Give us a minute. (both him and the Thin Controller turn around to talk for a quick moment, then turn around) Here are your new names then. Falcon, your new name will be Sir Handel, named after me, Sir Handel Lloyd Brown. Stuart, your new name will be Peter Sam, named after the Thin Controller, Mr. Peter Sam. How do you like those names?

Stuart: They're great names. We'll take them.

Falcon: I agree.

Mr. Sam: Sir Handel and Peter Sam it shall be. Now let's take you both to the sheds. We have some engines you'd probably like to meet.

Sir Handel and Peter Sam puffed to the shed where Skarloey and Rheneas were waiting.

Mr. Brown: Skarloey, Rheneas, this is Sir Handel, and this is Peter Sam. Sir Handel, Peter Sam, these are Skarloey and Rheneas.

Peter Sam: Hello.

Sir Handel: Hi.

Skarloey: Hi there.

Rheneas: Welcome to our railway.

Mr. Brown: Skarloey, I want you to show Sir Handel the quarry, and Rheneas, I want you to show Peter Sam the stations and the routes. Then when you're done with your jobs, swap sides of the railway.

Skarloey and Rheneas: Yes, sir!

Mr. Sam: You all get to know each other, then get some rest. It'll be a busy day tomorrow for all of you.

Skarloey, Rheneas, Sir Handel, and Peter Sam: Good night, sir.

The next day, Skarloey and Sir Handel both took some trucks to the quarry. Sir Handel was interested to see the geography of the railway.

Sir Handel: This is an interesting line you have.

Skarloey: (chuckles) Glad you like it.

Meanwhile, Rheneas was showing Peter Sam the stations and the routes he and Skarloey use to take passenger trains. Peter Sam was also interested in all the sights.

Peter Sam: This is a lovely railway, Rheneas.

Rheneas: It's one of the most beautiful lines in the world.

Then, Skarloey showed Sir Handel the passenger routes, and Rheneas showed Peter Sam the quarry.

That evening, the Thin Controller came to see them.

Mr. Sam: Evening, everyone. I just came to make an announcement. Skarloey, Rheneas, now that you've shown Sir Handel and Peter Sam around the railway and the work they'll be doing, you two will now have a very long rest. Sir Handel, Peter Sam, you two will begin work tomorrow. Good night, everyone.

Skarloey, Rheneas, Sir Handel, and Peter Sam: Good night, sir.

Hello everyone, and thanks for reading the prologue to The Narrow Gauge Adventure Begins. This book will be an interesting one to adapt, because I always felt like there were a lot of plot holes in the original story, and I hope to fix most, if not all of them. I'll explain the plot holes I tried to fix as we go along with the story. Before anyone asks, in my timeline, Sir Handel and Peter Sam will keep their blue and green colors, because I think the different colors make them all unique. Rusty will be orange and Duncan will be yellow in The Little Old Engine, and I'll come up with a way to where the color differences don't effect the story of Trucks in that book. Donald and Douglas will also keep their black livery in The Twin Engines for the same reason of making them more unique. Anyways, thank you all for reading, and I will see you all in Chapter 1.
