The Pokemon World. A wonderful place, you might think. It's lands, skies and seas are filled with wonderful powerful creatures. These creatures are named: pokemon.

They can be trained by people called trainers, become stronger, and then, fight with each other, as some sort of friendly competition.

They can also be used in contests to show their elegance and beauty, being trained by coordinators.

Others, live freely out there, on the wild, living in one of the eight regions of the pokemon world: Kanto, Johto, Hoeen, Sinnoh, Unova, Kalos, Alola and Galaar.

In each one of these regions, there exist 8 more powerful people, called gym leaders, that can offer you badges if you win in a battle against them. If you earn 8 bagdes, you can fight in the pokemon league. And, if you win in the league, you become a champion.

A lot of 10-year-old kids end up leaving the comfort of their home to have adventures on their regions, just to be a part of this gym challenge, and bring honor to their hometown.

But you probably already know about all of this, am I right? So, let me tell you a different story, or, at least, a different point of view.

Remember when I said that the regions are places where pokemon and trainers live? Well, on those regions we also have Witch Towers. You must be asking: "What is a Witch Tower?".

Well, as the name suggest, it's a place where witches reunite to learn magic, cast spells, create potions and things like this. However, thanks to prejudice, the witches become more and more exiled from the rest of society.

Nowadays, witches are not hunted anymore, but their number decreased a lot. Most of them just decided to live on the towers and never leave it, fearing what pokemons might do them.

Some, however, decided to live in houses far away from Witch Towers and society as a whole, living close to small towns from the regions, like Twinleaf, Vaniville, and Pallet.

Some witches and wizards even married pokemon trainers. So, you probably imagine where this story is going: their children.

Usually, these children choose something pokemon related, to avoid all of the problems choosing magic might cause, but when they don't… well… that's where the story starts.

Right in Pallet Town, a young boy, son of a witch, was lying on bed. Tomorrow, his 10th birthday was going to happen, which meant that he had an important choice to make: Bulbasaur, Squirtle, Charmander, or his dream?

"Leo! Time to go!" said Delia, calling her grandchild, who was still getting ready to receive his first pokemon.

"I am coming, grandma" Leo answered, looking at his reflection at the mirror.

Leo Ketchum was a boy slightly different from what the majority of people would expect. Being Ash's kid, people imagine him being sociable, funny, a little bit of an airhead, and crazy to be a pokemon trainer.

However, he was different from his father. Most of his traits are things he inherited from his mother. He was smart, a little bit shy, slightly cold, and the last thing he wanted to be was a pokemon trainer.

His eyes were blue, and his hair was lighter shade of it, almost looking like white.

To start his journey, he chose what most younger trainers would choose, gloves and a vest over his shirt. It was far from his style, though.

As soon as he finished, he went down the stairs, and saw his grandma next to the dining table.

"I am ready" said the blue-haired boy, trying his best to sound optimistic. His grandma, however, noticed he wasn't being sincere.

"Why aren't you using your night themed sweater? You love it so much" his grandma asked.

"Well, I thought this was better for the occasion" Leo answered. His grandma didn't seem to believe in it though. However, she knew that trying to make him talk would lead to nothing.

"Well, your dad has sent you a gift over mail. He seemed to be excited to see you wearing it" Delia said, pointing to a wrapped gift on the table.

The blue-haired boy grabbed it and unwrapped it, revealing it to be a cap. There was a small note attached to it.

'To my favorite pokemon trainer. I have wanted to give this to you since the day you were born. This is the first cap I have ever used. Waiting non-stop for the day you defeat me at the league. Love you, dad'

As always, his father was having problems to notice what he really wanted. He couldn't really blame him though. He was like this with everything.

"Wow, so… thoughtful of him" said Leo, trying his best to not sound ironic.

"Your mother also had left a gift to you" said his grandmother, leaving the boy shocked.

"My… mother?" he asked, feeling confused. His mother has died when he was 8. How could she have a gift for him.

"Yes. When before she died, she asked me to keep this to give it to you on your 10th birthday. She wished so much to have seen it" said Delia, doing her best to not cry. Leo was close to cry but held back the tears and grabbed the gift.

When he unwrapped it, he ended up seeing the belt that had an accessory made to keep his spell book. His mother always used it, so, it was easy to remember it.

'To my small Moon Prince. If magic is what you choose, this will be really useful. If pokemon is what you choose, I will equally support you. I love you, sweetie. Never forget about it. Love you, mom'

Leo couldn't handle all of his emotions and started to cry a little bit. He missed his mother so much. However, he was interrupted by the sound of someone video calling on his grandma's video machine. He quickly wiped the tears and answered.

"Hello there, Leo!" said his aunt Misty, as soon as she saw him.

"Oh, hello aunt Misty," said Leo.

"Happy birthday, my dear nephew. I wish you luck on your journey!" said the water gym leader. The blue-haired boy tried his best to sound positive.

"Thanks" he said.

"Just remember some stuff. First, don't destroy a bike! Remember the effectiveness of the typing of your pokemon, and don't forget to battle at my gym. But, just warning you, I am not going to make it easy for you," said Misty.

"I didn't expect anything different" said Leo, trying to laugh at it.

"Wish I could be there, but I have a large number of trainers to take care of today" said Misty.

"Don't worry. I understand" said the blue-haired boy.

"Well, I need to go now. Good luck!" said the water gym leader, switching the PC off.

Soon after, however, someone else was calling.

"Hello?" Leo asked, answering this new call.

"Hey, Leo. How is it going?" asked Brock.

"Hey, Uncle Brock" answered the blue-haired boy.

"Just hear to say happy birthday. It's finally time to start your journey" said the former rock gym leader.

"Yeah" said Leo, trying his best to sound optimistic. His uncle, however, noticed he was not that happy.

"Are you really happy, though. You don't seem so… excited about it" said Brock, noticing his nephew was not as happy as he was trying to look like.

"Well, a lot of people are expecting me to do it. So, I guess it's all fine" said the blue-haired boy.

"You know we only want you to be happy, right?" said his uncle.

"Yeah, but I think I am" Leo answered.

"If that's what you want, okay then," said his uncle.

"Well, I need to go now. Remember, this is a very important choice you are going to make" said his uncle, switching off.

"I think it's better if I get going. A lot more of people are going to call me later. Bye, grandma" Leo said, exiting the house.
