~ Part I: A Broken Guitar ~
It had been more than two weeks now. More than two weeks of wet pillows, skipping meals, and missing classes. And he couldn't take it anymore. Every time he tried to talk to her, say sorry, she just ignored him. Walked away. Like he didn't even exist.
"Hey, Kaminari, you wanna study for the test on Monday?" he heard a voice at his door. "Come on, open the door."
He stood up and opened the door to a bright pink face — usually joyous and happy, but with a slightly worried look on it today. "Yeah, I think I'm gonna come today..." he said, rubbing his puffy and swollen eyes.
"Were you crying again?"
"No, I just..." he said, trying to come up with an excuse for his red eyes. "I just couldn't sleep yesterday."
"Don't lie. You were thinking of her, weren't you?"
"No," he lied. "Why would I? It's not like I miss her or anythi—"
"Denki, you need to stop. I know it hurts, but you can't spend your whole life crying."
His eyes dropped down to the floor. "I told you, I wasn't crying..." he tried to lie again. They stood quiet for a few moments.
Suddenly, the pink-headed female exclaimed, "I've got an idea!"
"Huh?"
"I know exactly what will cheer you up! Let's go to the amusement park after lunch today!"
"No, there's no need for that, I'm fine... Plus, we need to study for the upco—"
"Tut tut tut, I don't want to hear any of that nonsense. You will come with us this evening."
"But—"
"No buts," Mina said, shaking her head. "It'll cheer you up, you'll see."
The blond sighed. There was no denying Mina once she was determined about anything. "Okay, I guess... But don't complain when I ruin the mood."
The other teenager gave a huge grin. "That's more like it." Then, suddenly remembering something, she said, "Well, I gotta go. Be at the gate by 4:45 this afternoon. See ya later!"
Denki waved his hand slowly, and then closed the door. He plopped down on his bed, burying his face in his damp pillow.
What did I even do...? Just one guitar... And she dumped me like I was a bag of trash or something. I guess it was my fault. Maybe I don't deserve her. Hell, maybe I don't deserve anyone.
Slowly, with his mind clouded with such depressed thoughts, he drifted off to sleep.

"Wow," I say, admiring the small instrument she just placed in my hand. "This is really your first ever guitar?"
"Yeah," she says. "My dad gifted it to me when I was, like, three. This is like treasure to me."
"Oooooh, that's so cool!" I say, plucking some strings gently. The small, golden-colored guitar produces a melodious sound.
"Lemme write now," she says. "I need to finish a lot of work."
"Mhm," I say, and try to produce a song out of the guitar. Suddenly, a sound startles me.
Ping!
"What was that?!" I ask, alarmed.
She looks confused for a second, and then laughs. "Oh come on, it's just the cake in the microwave, Pikachu. You're such a scaredy cat!"
"Hmph! There's no need to laugh!" I say, puffing up my cheeks. "I was just a bit surprised."
"Aw, don't be angry. You know I was just teasing you!" she says, laughing again.
Her laugh, I think, as I turn towards her, trying to maintain an offended expression. It's so pretty.
She tackles me in a hug, but falls down, taking me with her. Before she can get up, I pull her closer to my chest and kiss her.
She tries to free herself, but I press my lips against hers harder, and she melts into the kiss. About a minute later, we finally separate our mouths, gasping for breath.
"What was that for?" she asks, blushing heavily.
"Am I not allowed to kiss my princess?"
Still blushing, she says, "You'll never change, will you? And weren't you angry at me just a couple of minutes ago?"
"I can't be angry at you for more than a minute, sweetheart," I say. "By the way, what about that cake?"
"Oh, yeah, I almost forgot! Wait, let me go and decorate it," she says, and runs off to the kitchen, her dark blue hair bouncing.
I smile. We have been dating for one year now, this is our first anniversary. Being the most popular couple in the whole school, everyone knows about us.
I pick up the guitar again and stand up, wanting to sit down on the bed.
But then, I slip. As a reflex, I move my arms in front of me — and they hold the little guitar in them.
I crash down on the floor, and feel something breaking below me. I hurriedly sit up. To my horror, the guitar... It is broken. Smashed into pieces.
As soon as I realise what has happened, I panic. Shit, what is she gonna say?! I think as I hurriedly pick up the splinters, ignoring the scratches from them. My mind races. She had herself said it was her 'treasure'... Will she be really angry?
It's gonna be fine, I try to calm myself. I feel the adrenaline in my veins as I pick up the last piece. It's just a guitar.
"What happened, Denki?" she asks from the kitchen. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," I say, my heart hammering in my chest. "Everything's okay. No need for you to come here. I just slipped."
I look down at the pieces of wood in my hands. There's no way anyone can fix this.
"The cake's almost ready, just a minute!"
My pulse races. I gotta tell her about this. I need to.
I walk to the kitchen. "Uh, Kyoka... I wanted to say something."
"Hm?" she says, putting icing on the heart-shaped cake. Vanilla flavour — my favourite one — I notice.
"Um... Well..." I hesitate. Then I blurt it out. "What if someone broke your childhood guitar by accident?"
She looks up towards my face and cocks her eyebrow. "Why are you asking? Did you do something to it?"
This is it, I think. I can either tell her the truth... Or lie. I choose the second option.
"N-No, what would I do?" I say, clasping my sweaty hands behind my back. She puts the last piece of chocolate on the cake and puts her hands on her hips.
"Denki, you know, you can't hide anything from me," she says. "Seriously, what did you do?"
"N-Nothing."
"Denki, did you... break the guitar?"
Here goes nothing.
"Uh, um..." I hesitate again. Then, after a moment, I finally say, "Yeah."
We stand in silence for a few minutes. "This is a joke, isn't it?" she says. "You know, your jokes are really lame."
"This isn't a joke..." She stiffens. "I'm sorry, I really didn't mean to. I was just gonna sit on the bed, but then I slipped and I fell down with the guitar in my hands, so it broke..." I try to explain.
"Where is it?" she says in a quavering voice.
Crap, that guitar must be really precious for her.
"Actually... All that's left are these," I say, holding out my hands with some splinters in them. I give a nervous laugh. She doesn't react in any way. We stay silent for some more moments again.
"Look, no need to be upset, I'll buy you a new one, okay?" I say, to break the tense silence.
"You don't know how much that guitar meant to me, did you?"
"Uh, yeah, it was your first musical instrument..."
"That's not it!" she suddenly yells, her onyx eyes brimming with tears. "It wasn't just because it was my first instrument, it was because I learned to love music because of it, dumbass! Do you have any idea what those hours with my parents and this guitar meant?"
I bite my lip and stay silent, not wanting to make her angrier. Still, it is so unlike her to snap suddenly. I suppose it's because of the stress school work and hero training has given us. And I wonder how that guitar broke so easily... Like, I just fell on it once...
"Are you even listening?!" she yells again. "Oh, why would you? You don't care a bit about anyone else or their feelings. I bet you're gonna dump me once you've used me up."
"Calm down, you can sti—"
"Shut up!"
"It was just a damn guitar!" I lash out, and immediately regret it.
"Oh, just a 'damn guitar', is it? Well, I suppose I'm just a damn girl too, huh?"
"No, I didn't mean that," I try to calm her down. "I-I..."
"What do you mean?" she says in a soft voice, tears spilling over her cheeks. I feel the urge to wipe those tears away and give her a tight hug, but I have a feeling it'll only make things worse. "You know what, Denki? I've had it with you."
"You... What?"
She looks up, a defiant look in her eyes. "I'm breaking up."

Denki waked up covered in sweat. He thought about the dream he just had — more like a nightmare — which had been reality about three weeks ago.
After that day, Kyoka had moved back in her apartment, taking everything that she owned. And that included Denki's happiness.
For the next few days, the blond had kept hoping that she would move back with him, say she was sorry, or say that she didn't mean what she had said. But that never happened. Instead, she started ignoring his calls, and never replied to his messages.
After some more days, the summer vacation had ended, and they had moved back into the school dorms. But there, the situation worsened. Kyoka avoided Denki, or simply ignored him. And then, to add to Denki's pain, about two weeks ago, Eijiro and Kyoka became a couple.
Denki had lost it then. He stopped attending most of the classes, and stayed locked up in his room for almost the whole day, thinking about her, memories of their time together, and about what he did wrong.
Why Kirishima? Is he that good? And why did he accept even if he knew that I love her? The blond thought of questions whose answers he'd probably never get. Anyway, if she's happy, I'm happy, he said to himself, though a part of his mind said that this wasn't true.
He looked towards the clock on the wall. It was almost time to go and meet Mina and the rest. I better get ready...
He brushed his hair, and took out a dark hoodie from his wardrobe. Usually Denki didn't wear anything like this, but since Kyoka had broken up with him, he felt more and more insecure everyday. He wanted to disappear somewhere, someplace where no one could ever find him.
He put it on and slowly walked out of the door. While walking through the common room, he encountered Izuku. "Hey," the dark haired boy said in a voice laced with worry. His face, too, was devoid of the usual bright smile. "Are you okay? You look so thin... You should eat something, Kaminari."
"I'm fine," the blond said in a tired voice. "It's alright, Midoriya. Don't worry about me."
"If you say so..." Izuku said. "By the way, Mina asked me to call you. She said she wanted you to be at the gate in 5 minutes."
"Okay, that's where I'm going anyway."
"Oh, okay then. And... don't stay too sad, okay?"
"I'll try," he said, and gave Izuku a tiny smile.
Once he walked out of the gates, he looked around. The sun was high up in the sky, so it was pretty hot — hotter for Denki since he was wearing a thick hoodie, and that too, black in color. But that didn't bother him, as he was immersed in yet another memory.
•וווווו
Her hands are warm, I think. So soft and warm.
"Denki, what are you thinking about?"
"I'm just thinking of how lucky I am to get a girlfriend like you." Then I squeeze her hand. "You're the best."
She blushes. She isn't used to all this yet, maybe because it's been only one month since we've been together.
"You look cute when you blush," I say.
"T-thanks."
"You're so shy, Kyoka," I say and laugh. "It makes you look even more like a cutie."
She doesn't say anything, she just blushes a bit more. I look around. The weather is a bit warm today, compared to the chilly winter. Spring's arriving soon.
A soft wind starts blowing, making the trees produce a rustling sound. Some birds chirp, making the atmosphere lovelier.
What else do we need in life? A pretty girlfriend, her hand in yours, a pleasant day, and a beautiful place to walk in. That's all I need right now.
•וווווו
This memory was from the first month of their time together. It had a special importance for Denki right now, since he was standing on the very path where this had occurred.
His eyes started watering again, but he was determined not to let the tears spill over. Holding his pain inside, he wiped the tears and started walking towards the gate again.
While walking, everything in the part reminded him of the bluenette. The bench where they sat... The tree under which they used to relax and talk for hours... The bushes of flowers from which they used to pick some... Even the fallen leaves reminded him of how she used to love autumn.
Suddenly, a voice broke his reverie. "There you are," the familiar voice said. "What took you so long?"
"Nothing," he said. "I just fell asleep and then woke up a bit late."
Mina rolled her eyes. "You're so late, Bakugou already left with Kirishima. And Sero said he—"
"Wait, he's coming too?"
"Who?"
"Kirishima."
"Oh, yeah," the girl said.
"Oh... I see..."
Mina suddenly realised what this must feel like to Denki. He already seemed really unhappy about it. She didn't know what to say, so she just grabbed his hand and pulled him out of the gate, pretending that it was just like the old days. The problem was... It wasn't.
Denki, though he tried not to show it, was not very happy with his once best friend. He wasn't angry with him, he just felt even more depressed around the red-head for reasons unknown. Probably because he felt inferior compared to him. Even Eijiro's quirk was better, as Denki thought.
But Mina couldn't do much about it. All she could do was to try and get them to be friends again by hanging out more.
They soon caught up with the rest of their group, minus Hanta. Once they reached the amusement park with its many different shops, roller coaster, huge giant wheel, and tons of other fun rides and stalls, Mina couldn't wait anymore.
"I haven't been to an amusement park in such a long time!" she said, almost jumping with joy. "This is gonna be so fun!"
"Shut up, pink alien," a voice growled. "You look like a damn two-year-old."
"Oh come on, Mr Sourpuss, don't ruin the mood."
"What did you say?! I'm gonna—"
"Calm down, Bakubro," a certain redhead said. "Let's have some fun, for once."
Normally, Denki would have joined in the teasing and laughing, but now he was too depressed. He remembered all the times he had been to this place with Kyoka, and his mood grew darker and darker.
"So, where should we go first?" Mina said. "The Haunted House?"
"Too boring," Katsuki said, yawning. "Even a kid wouldn't be scared of those stupid fake skeletons and paper bats."
"The roller coaster, then?"
"Too loud."
"Uh, the giant wheel?"
"That's not as bad as the other rides," the ash-blond haired male said.
"In other words: It's the best. Well, so let's go!" Mina said, before turning towards an unusually quiet Denki. "Hey." She shook him, snapping him out of his depressing thoughts again. "Come on."
"Oh, um, yeah," the blond said in a bored and uninterested voice.
The four teenagers walked towards the huge red-and-yellow wheel, pushing their way through the crowd. There we so many people — kids, their parents, and groups of friends, mainly. They were swarming in the stalls to buy something; sometimes it was a toy for a wailing child, sometimes it was a gift for a particular someone. But nevertheless, most of them were happy. Unlike our blond friend.
Even Mina, who seemed excited, was actually worried about her friend. He has never been this quiet before, even after Jirou left... Is it because of Kirishima? she thought. This can't go on any longer. I need to get them to be friends again.
On reaching the ticket counter, they bought four tickets and climbed onto a chamber. As the wheel started rotating, Denki looked out of the window, only to be drowned in another memory.
•וווווו
I look out of the window. Everything seems so beautiful in the amber rays of the setting sun. I can see the whole amusement park from up here.
Suddenly, Kyoka grabs my arm. "What happened?" I say.
"I-I am scared of heights," she says and leans towards me, holding my arm tightly.
I look at her and smile softly. "It's okay," I say, stroking her soft blue hair. "You can use me as a teddy bear if you want," I suggest, smirking slightly.
She blushes, but hugs me nevertheless. I free my arm from her grasp and drape it around her body, pulling her closer. Once she's tucked under my arm, I look out of the window again.
After a while, Kyoka breaks the silence. "Denki," she says.
"Hm?"
"I... love you."
Taken aback by the sudden comment, I blush a bit, and reply, "Me too. And I'll always love you. No matter what."
"Always?"
"Always," I reply, squeezing her hand.
•וווווו
Denki didn't even realise when the tears started spilling over his eyes. He just kept on going through more and more memories, until he couldn't bear it anymore.
"Denki," Mina said suddenly. "Are you okay?"
He didn't reply. Their compartment had reached ground level now, and the giant wheel was stopping. As soon as the wheel stopped, Denki stood up, opened the door, and leapt out of the compartment.
Author's Note
Was the chapter too huge? I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to write something this big — but since I have to cover the plot in two or three chapters, I need to make the chapters a bit long, hehe.
Anyway, I hope you liked the chapter as much as I enjoyed writing it, and I hope Denki didn't seem too out of character.
Please write a review if you liked the chapter. They really motivate me to write.
Well, that's all! The next chapter will be posted soon. Stay safe, and be optimistic!
See you soon! Bye!
(I just realized how long the A/N is, I'm so sorry—)
