5th of July, 1882
The bar was buzzing with life and colour. The many feline guests were muttering and chatting as two particular cats had just shared what was presumed to be the first kiss. The two cats were none other than Kitty Softpaws and Puss in Boots.
The ginger tabby and tuxedo were holding the passionate kiss for as long as their lungs could take, expressing the love that had been built for each other over a long and thrilling adventure. Even as Kitty was being lifted from their dip in the dance, Puss' hat was still present in front of their faces.
After about thirty seconds of kissing, the black leather hat was placed in its respective place. Puss observed Kitty's actions. Her soft head was down and she didn't dare look up to Puss or the many cats watching them in the bar. He gently placed his paw on the side of her head to have Kitty look into his deep and caring emerald eyes.
"If I am not mistaken, I would say that you are blushing," Puss in Boots teased the black and white she-cat.
"Oh shut up, Mr Frisky Two Times," she sassed as she stepped away from the tomcat's grasp.
The cat couple was sitting at the bar, drinking some well-deserved leche. After all, dancing is just as tiring as sword fighting. Puss looked over to the content Kitty Softpaws and opened his mouth as if he were trying to say something, but nothing came out.
Kitty felt Puss' breath creep down her back, and she turned to see what the cat was up to. She was certainly puzzled and a little shocked to see a stuttering, nervous Puss in Boots before her eyes. He was acting like a teenager trying to confess to their crush. Wasn't this idiot meant to be the lover of all women? The dashing, charming and slightly over-confident gato who feared nothing?
"I-I I was w-wondering..." the swordsman started. He cleared his throat of the lump that was plaguing him in his attempt to talk to Kitty.
The truth be told, Puss was very nervous around Kitty. She was different, a good different. He had never seen such a woman of talent and bravery. Once Puss laid eyes on her, he was stunned. She was most certainly the most beautiful gata in Spain. No, the world.
Puss had a 'type' of woman he usually flirted with, but Kitty had come along and changed it all. It had never crossed Puss' mind to have a woman of such skills by his side. She was changing the way he saw women as a whole. Puss could ramble on and on about why he loved her, and he had only known her for a few days. He can't wait to see what fate had installed for them in the future. But right now, he had to get through the awkward stage of when a playboy, like himself, falls head over heels for someone.
"It is probably the safest if we uhh... escape the city together. There would be fewer chances of the guards catching either of us," Puss practically spat out. The words were shot out of his mouth so fast that they came tumbling over one another, making it sound like gibberish instead of English. The lump in Puss' throat was back, and it was bigger than before. Blood rushed to his face, and his heart pounded against his rib cage.
Kitty all but stared at Puss. Biting her lip, Kitty tried her best not to burst out in laughter. Was the famous and feared Puss in Boots nervous?
"Keep yourself together, Puss! Why can't you use your charm? You use it on every other girl!" Puss thought to himself.
"Of course, if you don't want to, that is perfectly fine, but I would be honoured to spend the next few days with you and um... maybe we could get to know each other better. Or you could go off and let fate decide when we meet again. I know I sound like an idiot right now. I have never felt this way for a woman before. Did I say that out loud? I-It is really hot in here!" Puss hastily stuttered.
Before he could open his mouth again to make a fool of himself, Kitty placed her paw over Puss' lips. He can talk again once he has calmed down a bit.
"I was thinking the same thing. It would be nice for us to know each other a little more... Do you remember just a few minutes ago you were making fun of me for blushing?" Kitty all but giggled to the outlaw. Puss had to feel a little guilty now. "And, to answer the question that is on your mind; I would love to become your partner in crime,"
"How did you-" Puss pulled his muzzle away from Kitty's famously soft paw and was about to question how she was able to read his mind like that.
"A woman just knows, Puss... Or maybe we are just so in sync with one another that we can read each other's thoughts," the tuxedo said with a smirk spread on her face, leaning closer to Puss' face. She hoped she could bring out the flirty and confident side of him.
"Maybe. Just maybe, Kitty," he replied gazing into her icy blue eyes.
Her eyes reflected like a thousand diamonds in a beautiful night sky. They are so full of wonder and curiosity. Even when she is mad at him and gives him looks that throw daggers in his chest, her eyes are always as pretty as ever.
Puss got a sudden urge to kiss her, but with all his might, he held back for two reasons. One, he knew she didn't like other people seeing them kiss. Why? Puss had no idea. Two, Kitty had boundaries and he was not willing to push them.
Puss leaned away from Kitty and jumped off of the barstool he had been sitting on.
"Why don't we get out of here and find a place to stay for the night?" Puss inquired.
"Puss, it is still early. I-I think we could stay a little longer," Kitty pleaded to Puss. She really didn't want to leave. She does still have worries and secrets of her own.
"Sorry, Kitty, but the guards are doing a lap of the town soon, and if we do not want to be caught and placed in prison, I suggest we leave now."
"Whatever you say, Puss," she replied blankly.
The Sun started to set on the horizon, painting its gorgeous colours across the sky. The orange and pink hue lit the town like nothing else. The mountains in the distance grew darker and had a more distinct shape to them. Though being so far away, you can make out every small detail embossed on the mountain.
The long grass of the meadow flowed with the wind. The tips of the fine, green needles were as yellow as the sun, bringing out the perfect shade of yellow and green across the hills. A breeze ran over the hills and through the meadow towards the feline couple. It swished the grass ever so gracefully before continuing its journey through the town. The soft bristles of bristle grass lightly glided up and down the cats' legs, reaching to the tops of their thighs to the tips of their leather boots.
Puss had decided to take Kitty through this park so she could admire the sights he remembered as a child. Imelda would take them down to this park a couple of times every year when he was a kitten. It wasn't a long ride to this park from San Ricardo, but Puss recalls how bored his free spirit was and how much he wanted to escape the dreaded wagon they used to ride in. He all but chuckled at the memories with Imelda, his brother and the other orphans. The town he once saw as a holiday from the orphanage was now nothing but another town he was wanted in.
Puss wrapped a furry arm around Kitty as she took in the sights of the park. It was then that he noticed just how tense and uptight she was. Her shoulders were stiff as stone, and her arms were crossed as if she were trying to comfort and protect herself. Puss was about to ask Kitty what was on her mind, but just as he was about to, they came across the local inn they were searching for.
"Here we are, Puss. The unavailable rooms are usually at the back, facing the opposite direction of the park, which was a nice route to take for a walk. Gracias, Ginger" Kitty said, yet again slipping from under Puss' arm. What was she so concerned about?
Puss was now really worried about her. She seemed to be changing from her cool and confident self to her alert self as often as Puss turns into Blush Boy. (Which is now Kitty's new nickname for him).
Kitty and Puss arrived at the back of the old and unclassy inn. It wouldn't be hard to find a spare room considering the state of the place. In no time, Puss found a room for the two of them. It had two beds, one dresser, a bedside lamp and a standard bathroom for two. Once they had settled down in the room, Puss thought it would be best if they sat down and talked about their pasts for a bit. Maybe, just maybe, he would find the reason to Kitty's nerves.
