Chapter 1

My name is Jake.

Jake Berenson.

I am not your typical teenaged boy.

I was, but not any longer.

You see, Earth is in danger.

Well, I guess it already was from Covid-19 and all that stuff.

But this is different.

Being in quarantine won't fix this problem.

Okay, maybe it would a little, but it wouldn't eliminate the problem.

I'm writing this down because I just need to get this out there.

Actually, it was Elfangor's idea. He told us that it would help a lot if we were able to get this out on paper, and maybe someday, when the war is over, release this to the public.

I'm kind of getting ahead of myself here.

I was walking through the hallways of my school.

School was going just like normal.

My best friend Marco came up to me.

"Hey, Jake. Is it true that you asked Cassie out on a date? The rumors are going around."

My face turned bright red and I struggled to find what to say.

It was the end of the day, so I was going to try to get myself out of this.

But I was saved when I saw two guys I recognized, and they were heading toward us.

Tobias and David.

Tobias is a nice guy, and I sometimes hang out with him.

But David, however, is not.

I don't even know why Tobias is friends with that jerk.

It's kind of ironic.

Tobias gets picked on by bullies all the time, but his only friend is a bully himself.

"Hi, guys." Tobias said.

"Hey, Tobias. Hi, David. What's up?"

"Yo. It's the losers." David said. "I don't think we should hang around them, Tobias. Come on, let's go."

"No. I want to stay and maybe walk home with them." He turned to me and Marco and added, "If it's okay with you."

"Sure." I said, just wanting to get rid of David.

"Maybe I'll come with you. You may be losers, but I have to make sure Tobias is all right."

Oh great. Now David was coming with us.

We were making our way toward the doors, when I spotted Rachel, Cassie, and Ashley.

Rachel is my cousin. She is one of those people who most boys would do anything for a date with.

She's smart, brave, and strong.

She takes gymnastics, or, at least, did before Covid. She isn't one of those people who brags about how popular she is.

She also really doesn't like David, who shares that dislike.

Rachel is also one of the best students in school.

She's always getting the best report cards, only has the inevidable amount of homework that literally everyone else has.

Cassie is a little different from Rachel.

She doesn't like shopping, for one thing.

I kind of like Cassie.

As in LIKE her.

Ashley is nice, too.

She is into Marco, I can tell.

"Can we walk home with you?" Cassie said.

"Sure. That would be fun." I said right as David said, "Nah. We're good." "Okay. Let's go." Cassie said.

We left. Little did I know that I was about to have a life changing encounter.

We made small-talk on the way home.

Suddenly, right by Ashley's house, something caught my eye.

A group of men were clustered around ... Something.

They were not social distancing at all.

I caught a glimpse of the thing they were crowded around.

It was some sort of blue centaur thingy.

It had hooves, blue fur, an upper human body, a non-human head with no mouth, two eyes in the normal place, and two eyes on stalks on its head, and its tail was tipped with a sharp blade. The creature ran.

"Andalite! He's getting away. Get him!"

It saw us.

The Andalite was carrying a blue box with strange symbols on it.

We ran to Cassie's barn, and we all went inside.

"Okay, what is a Yeerk?" Marco asked.

The Andalite, Elfangor-Cereal whatever his name was, looked at him.

"How do we fight them?" Rachel said.

"Are you insane? No way we're fighting these Yeerks." Marco said.

"I'm sorry, Marco, but I agree with Rachel and Elfangor." Ashley said.

Now Marco was trapped.

"All right. I'll do it."

"What?" I asked.

We got the power.

I had two default morphs.

One was a tiger. That was the personality-based morph. I then got an Andalite morph.

Elfangor said the Andalite morphs are based on your own DNA but modified for non-Andalites to make Andalite morphs for if they wanted to pass as Andalites.

Elfangor said there were limits for the morphing technology for humans.

These limits didn't effect Andalites.

Without being stuck in morph, humans could only stay in morph for about two hours, or they would be trapped.

We left Cassie's barn to go to our houses.
