as he steps out of the house, into the rain, back to work, back to life, Kristian is fuming. Søren had promised. Søren had said that he would cook dinner. Søren had said that he would make a stew and that it would be all there, all ready for him when he came home.
Søren had lied.
Kristian had come home and the cat wanted to be fed. The cat should have already been fed. They had argued about it. Kristian had argued about it. Søren didn't say anything, but Kristian was determined that he shouldn't just get away with it. The cat had wanted to be fed, and where was Søren? Well, where was Kristian? Well, where was Søren? Well, where was Kristian?
Kristian was working, actually. Because someone needed to bring in money. Did Søren work?
No, Søren was caught in the rain, home late, so Søren could not work.
That's what Kristian thought.
And so now he had fed the cat, and waited for Søren to come home from work. Well, of course he was late, and Kristian yelled at him about it. Kristian waited and waited and Søren was still late and really? Again?
Kristian could only wait so long.
So, like the time before, and the time before that, Kristian got up and went back to work in the rain and now everyone asks if he was okay. Well, of course he's okay. It's raining, and that was annoying. Yes, it is raining, during a summer heatwave, isn't it bizarre? Yes, he is fine. He doesn't understand half their questions, so he simply logs onto his computer and another day flicks by on the little calendar at the top of the screen.
He checks his phone, waiting for an apologetic text from Søren, but he doesn't get one. Someone looks at him and he isn't sure what their expression is but he doesn't like it. Someone tells him to go home and he doesn't like that, either - so it's raining, that doesn't mean he couldn't walk home, did it? The last time he checked, the world didn't shut down with a little rain. Rain is part of life.
He had never thought it would rain when Søren was around, but Søren is late, so it'll stop raining soon and Søren will be able to make it home again.
He finishes work, and he goes home, and Søren hasn't fed the cat. He's fuming. Søren had promised to make dinner but he's still not home and Kristian is hungry and Søren didn't even tell him he was going to be caught in the rain. He waits for Søren. It gets dark again and it gets light again and Søren is so late and Kristian yells at him for it.
Well, it's raining, and where was Kristian when it started raining? He wasn't there, was he? He didn't do anything to stop it raining, did he?
Søren is right, Kristian didn't do anything and now it's raining and Søren is still late. But now Kristian is late for work so
