He was wondering trough the ruins of what was once a place he called home, a place that he loved more than anything … well mostly everything.

If he had truly loved it more than anything than maybe it wouldn't be in such a sad state today.

,,Hmm, this place truly is nostalgic. Well it probably would be if I wasn't such a damn coward!"

He gritted his teeth while he continued walking past destroyed building burnt trees and the corpses which sometimes decorated what remained of the streets.

After a while he entered a clearing, it probably served as a place for people to meet many years ago.

Again his thoughts drifted to his greatest failure, he chose to ignore the hate he had for himself.

He started to look around the clearing and saw a yellow haired kid sneaking by the ruins.

,,He's probably thinking that I didn't notice him" He started making his way towards the kid carefully

,,Even if he is just a kid letting your guard down leads to death! Especially in this accursed world."

By now the kid had noticed him approaching at started desperately looking for a way out of the situation. Seeing no way to escape the kid put his hand into a pocked and pulled out a kitchen knife.

,,Don't come close to me, I swear I'll kill you!" screamed the boy.

He started looking at the kid more closely and estimated him at around thirteen years old thou he could be wrong especially because the kid was clearly starving.

,,I do not intend to hurt you I just saw you and decided to look at you more closely. If you want I can leave you alone right now, thou I certainly wouldn't be opposed to helping you out a little either" said he while putting his arms in the air to prove that he was no threat.

The kid seemed to relax just a little bit but it was clear that he was still cautious.

He liked the fact that the kid was so cautious it was definitely something beneficial in order to survive.

,,What are you doing here anyway? People don't really come here anymore since the fighting here stopped." asked the kid still showing no sign of real trust.

,,I came here cause I used to live here to, before it was destroyed" answered he with a bit of sadness in his eyes.

The kid suddenly seemed a bit more relaxed,,I see well I would give you some food if I had any. It has been a long time since I meet anybody friendly."

,,Friendly people are hard to find these days that is true" answered he with a soft voice.

,,I could help you survive for a while and maybe teach you a few things about this world in the process."

,,Really! You would?" exclaimed the kid with stars in the eyes.

,,I would! I can't have a kid dying out here" answered he a little bit upbeat,,It happened way to often already…"

He refrained from saying that last part out loud.

,,Do you have any kind of place to live at? Like a building that isn't fully destroyed or something like that"

,,No, I don't think places like that exist here anymore. I spend all my time trying to find food so I didn't have any time to search for shelter."

,, I see well then how about we live these ruins behind? It would be safer to. Even tho combat here ended it might start again at somepoint, I can't really predict how the war is gonna go."

,,Really? Will we really leave the village?" asked the boy exited eventhou you could also see a bit off fear in his eyes.

,,Did you ever leave the village kid?"

,,No, I was to young before the village got attacked eight years ago and afterwards I was to busy trying to survive."

,,I see" the both of them started making their way trough the ruins and walked towards what remained of the gates.

After they arrived at the exit the boy started looking fascinated at the ruined gates.

,,Do you know how these gates looked before the war?" asked the boy with an interested face.

He started speaking with an sort of pride in his voice ,,Yes I remember the days when our gates where still standing, when the streets where still filled with people, when kids could still go to school instead of fighting for survival and when we were still seen as the greatest of the great villages." At the end the boy could see a few tears escaping the mans eyes.

,,Are you sad?" asked the boy. ,,I'm fine don't worry, now let us leave this place before it gets dark OK?" answered the man with a strong voice.

,,Let's do this dattebayo" screamed the kid with a happy voice as they were leaving the ruins behind.
