Chapter 1- Two Lonely Souls
Hello everyone! Thank you for starting this story with me.
In a tower on a hill, a girl sat. The air around her was tranquil, undisturbed by noise. The tower was large and old. It was the girl's home. Her name was Luna. She was the only child of Xenophilius and Pandora Lovegood, a member of an ancient pureblood family. Not that she cared about such things, but some did. She sat and stared into space. She was visualizing her creatures. Many people thought that they were imaginary, and mocked her for her belief in them(especially the Weasley children, who lived not far away) but Luna knew that was not true. They truly existed, but only those who believed in them could see them.
The Weasley children were quite rude to her about her creatures. There were seven children in the Weasley family. Bill was never around much. Charlie was the nicest - he worked with dragons. Ron was very obvious in his scoffing. Percy, in his standoffish way, was disdainful. Fred and George treated it as some big joke.
Due to Ginny being the only young magical girl in the area, they had played together some when they were younger. However, they didn't have a great relationship now. Gunny just had different interests than Luna.
The Weasleys were surrounded with Wrackspurts. Her Daddy had created Wrackspurt siphons that could get rid of them but they wouldn't let her use them.
She had recently received her Hogwarts letter and had gone to Diagon Alley. It was truly an interesting place, for all of the chaos within it. When she went to Ollivander's she received a wand that was Pine, with Dragon Heartstring, 12 1/2 inches.
She had been around magic for as long as she could remember.
When she was nine, she had watched her mother die in front of her. She had died from an accident caused by experimentation with charms. It was for just such a reason that the Ministry severely restricted such ventures.
It had permanently changed her outlook on life, making her mature much quicker than the average person, which in turn made her less vivacious.
Her father was not a very capable parent, being very absentminded regarding to Luna( not that he was different regarding himself). He had changed once her mother had died. He had thrown himself into research and the Quibbler, leaving her to her own devices. She did not have a very close relationship with him.
She hoped for friends, and a new start. No one had accepted her, just as she was. She carried a lot of baggage- many families were in blood feuds with the Lovegoods, hence the lack of family members. And that was if you could get past her outward appearance and her creatures. She longed for such an event. She waited - for September 1st.

Samuel Richardson sat, staring into the air. His eyes were unfocused as he appeared to be pondering some weighty problem. He was sitting in a hammock, gently rocking back and forth in the breeze, unfazed by the loud yells that proceeded from the grass below his rooftop perch. They came from his eight younger brothers and sisters.
You see, Samuel had recently received a Hogwarts letter, and had been informed that he was a wizard.
This was the best thing ever to happen to him, due to all his siblings. His parents did not have that much time to spend with him, as he was low maintenance compared to those aforementioned younger siblings. They lived in an inherited old house in the country that was rather large. However, they were not that rich.
Tomorrow was the day when he would go to Diagon Alley. He was looking forward to getting his wand and his school books.
Since he had always lived out in the country, he had never been around that many people before, and certainly never had any friends (his siblings were all little brats).
He slowly and languidly got up from the hammock. This was his favorite spot, up here. His siblings did not know how to get up here, as he had been very careful that they never saw him get up. As a matter of fact, he had a hidden ladder that allowed him to arrive unseen.
He liked his room, as well, but his siblings could not be kept out. That became very annoying at certain times.
When he reached the ground, he was mobbed by little children. He could not speak to how annoying they were. He trudged into the house as he heard his mother calling him. His life was boring. He knew that was about to change, of course, but he could never have guessed how much.
The next day, Professor McGonagall of Gryffindor house arrived to pick him up. She was nice, but stern.
They walked into a pub. At the back was a brick wall which Professor McGonagall tapped to let them through.
First they visited the bank, Gringotts - a majestic edifice with strange looking goblins as tellers, where the normal 15 galleons for muggleborns were given him.
The next stop - Ollivanders. They walked into the store and Ollivander popped out, startling him. Ollivander started talking about Professor McGonagall's wand.
"I remember your wand, Minerva. It was 9½ inches long, made of fir wood, and had a dragon heartstring core. It was very well suited to Transfiguration, was it not? And then you ended up becoming an Animagus."
Ollivander finally started talking to Samuel.
"Let us see, let us see. Hmm. Try this. Ebony with Unicorn Hair, 13 1/4 inches, rigid."
No sooner had Samuel held it when it was snatched away, to be replaced by Vine with Thestral Hair, 9 3/4 inches, springy. The third time was the charm, with "Hawthorn with Dragon Heartstring, 11 1/4 inches, flexible".
After that, he was escorted to Madam Malkin's to get his school robes.
Eventually it was time for what he had been waiting for - Flourish and Blotts. He purchased the required school books, and then spent the rest of his money on other books. He then headed home to read all his books while he waited with baited breath for September 1st.
