Hello readers and welcome to my new chapter; the first update of the new year, as well as a quicker update for this fic compared to last time. Here's hoping the momentum continues gathering.

So, this chapter was difficult to write. Wasn't sure on how to go about dodgeball tournament arc without making it a carbon copy of the original arc, with a few tweaks here and there. I was pretty close on giving up on doing this arc; however, I persevered and found a way to keep from looking like a carbon-copy. Not completely fresh, per say, but different enough to at least be entertaining. At least I hope so.

So, here we are with the dodgeball tournament arc. I hope you guys enjoy.

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter or Negima.

Chapter 5: Dodgeball Tournament

(School Roof)

'Well, didn't think the day would end up like this…'

That was the blank thought of one Harry Potter, as he stood as referee for a dodgeball game. On one side, were the majority of Negi's and his students, as well as Negi himself; on the other side were eleven girls that had come from the high school. Staying off the field were Madoka, Sakurako, and Misa, who all wore cheerleader outfits; Chachamaru and Evangeline, the former firing a confetti cannon; and Zazie, Kaede, Setsuna, and Mana.

So, why was he a referee to such a game? Well, it started during the break period, where the high school girls first appeared and had started harassing the students. During the first confrontation, Takamichi managed to stop the conflict before it could escalate.

Then gym class rolled around, and a second confrontation formed…

(Flashback)

"So, I'm assuming you girls are up here for a reason? With my fellow teacher taken hostage, no less?"

Having subbed in for the PE teacher, the Boy-Who-Lived has been waiting at the rooftop, where the class will be having their class. But instead of Class 2-A… it was the high school girls from before that appeared, with Negi in one of their arms.

"U-Um, well, their PE teacher couldn't come in today, so they needed me to fill in!" Negi decided to answer, looking incredibly flustered. "But I didn't tell them to come here!"

"I see." Nodding to his fellow teacher, Harry faced the leading girl of this group. "So I assume you're the one who decided on coming here for your recreation?"

The leader of the group, Eiko, nodded, a smirk across her face. "That's correct, Harry-sensei."

"Well, could you go somewhere else?" The teen mage sighed. "I would like to have my class in peace, if at all possible. There should be facilities at the high schoo-"

"Oh, don't be like that, sensei." Suddenly, Eiko got up close to him, an impish look across her face. "There aren't any rules as to where a high-schooler can go during their PE time or break periods. Besides-"

The girl then pressed her hands across his chest. "I was curious about the child and teen teacher duo that our juniors have. We haven't had a chance to interact before, so I wanted to do so now."

'How forward are these girls in Mahora?!' Harry thought incredulously, a blushing forming around his cheeks. Unfortunately, that little bit of embarrassment would be his downfall.

"Look at him, he's blushing!"

"He's as cute as the little child teacher

"These two make quite the adorable pair!"

"C'mon, I wanna hold him!"

"I got dibs this time!"

The blush acrossed got even bigger as half the girls surrounded and hugged him, eerily similar to his and Negi's first day. "H-Hey!" As quickly as he could, he pulled out from the group of girls, trying to maintain his composure. "I'm being serious, here-!"

Before he could finish his rather flustered statement, the sound of the roof-top door opening, along with several female gasps, grabbed his and the others' attention. Harry turned his head to see the very class he's supposed to supervise right behind him.

(Flashback End)

And of course, that led to the two classes getting into another fight. He did his best to keep the conflict from growing into a fist-fight or worse, but it's difficult when there's dozens of hyper-active female students.

It also doesn't help that they used him as a make-shift rope for Tug-a-War.

(Flashback)

"Let him go!"

"You let him go!"

"He's our teacher!"

"It's unfair you get to monopolize such cute boys!"

"Like we'll share them with a bunch of grannies like you!"

"Why are you using me for a game of Tug-a-War?!"

The last comment from Harry Potter himself, who's having his arms pulled by the juniors and seniors. Said juniors that were involved were Asuna, Misora, and Yuna; during this, Ayaka and Makie had ended up trying to pull away Negi from some of the other girls.

(Flashback End)

It took a magic infused shout in order to calm things down. However, Class 2-A were still riled up and wanting the high-schoolers off the roof, while said high-schoolers were still eager to poke and prod at their juniors.

That's when Negi, who has managed to get out of his momentary captivity, suggested this sporting contest.

(Flashback)

"Why not settle this with a sporting contest?" Negi suggested, clapping his hands together beside Harry. "That way, we can avoid violence and we can all get some exercise."

"Interesting. I can get on board with this." The leading high-schooler spoke for her group. "And if we lose, we'll leave no quarrel. Plus, we'll stop bothering you at lunch time. How does that sound?"

"E-Even if you say that, we'd be no match against you!" Ako spoke up in protest. "Our ages and bodies are completely different."

"Hmm, a good point there." The leading high-school girl conceded. "You guys would be no match for us in volleyball. So about dodgeball instead? We'll give you a handi-cap too, the eleven of us versus twenty-two on your side!"

Harry blinked at this, quickly realizing the disadvantage with that handicap. "Wait-"

"Alright, you're on!"

"Yeah!"

"You better not regret later!"

"...Oh boy." Harry sighed in the end. 'They're gonna regret that.'

"Oh, and one more thing." Suddenly, both Harry and Negi felt themselves grabbed by several of the high-school girls. One had her arms wrapped around Negi's head, while two others held Harry by the arm and neck, both in a cuddly-fashion. "If we win, we're taking both Negi-sensei and Harry-sensei as our teachers."

"What?!"

"They're going to take Negi-kun and Harry-sensei?!"

"Oi!" Harry exclaimed in protest. "You girls can't just decide that for yourselves!"

(Flashback End)

Apparently, these girls can do whatever the hell they want it seems. Harry was unsure on how these high-schoolers plan to convince the school to transfer him and Negi to their class, but he would rather not find out. Thus, he's silently cheering on his class, plus Negi, to win.

'This is bad, really bad!' Negi thought in panic. 'If we lose, those scary girls are going to take me and Harry…'

'But if we win…' The child teacher calmed as a best case scenario formed in his head. 'Everything might actually go well! Maybe after this game, they can get along and be friends! You never know…' The boy started smiling, lost in thought of this happy scenario.

So lost in thought that he didn't hear Harry start the match. He was broken out of it by a ball to the head.

"Hey!" Thankfully, Asuna jumped up and caught the ball. "Stop being a liability you damn brat!"

"Caught on the safe!" Harry announced.

As soon as that was said, Asuna launched the ball right at one of the high-schoolers. Harry blew his whistle as the throw hit true, signaling that girl's out. "One out for the high-school team!" The teen teacher announced, changing the scoreboard. "Ten members left!"

"Alright!" Asuna cheered.

"Way to go Asuna!"

"There's definitely no one better here in this type of game!"

"This'll be a walk in the park!"

Harry sighed as the girl celebrated their small victory. 'You girls won't be celebrating for long…' Harry remarked to himself, his eyes drifting to the high-school team. 'Especially since these girls still seem completely confident.'

The Boy-Who-Lived was proven correct. In no time flat, three of the girls were taken out with one throw, before the ball returned to the sender. "Three out for the junior high team!" Harry announced, right before four more got taken out by another throw. "...Make that four."

"C'mon girls," Ayaka growled in frustration. "We can't be taken out so easily like this! Keep an eye on the balls!"

"It's not our fault!" Kazumi, one of the girls taken out, protested. "We can't move in an area like that! It's too crowded!"

"Wait…" At that statement, Asuna's eyes widened in realization. "Crap! We're actually at a disadvantage here!"

Harry sighed at that, prompting the orangette to whirl towards him with a heated glare. "You knew?!"

"You agreed before I could say anything." Harry replied with a shrug, unperturbed by the growl coming from her. "Not my fault you acted compulsively."

"Glad you brats finally managed to figure it out." Eiko snicked, casually tossing up the ball. "If all of you cluster up like a bunch of monkeys, then it's easy to take you all down."

Asuna gritted her teeth in frustration. "Everyone, don't bunch up!" She told the team. "Spread out, now!"

"We should've done this from the start!"

'Bad move.' Harry immediately noted.

Or at least bad execution. The girls spread out in a panic, leaving some to turn their back to the high-schoolers. Something that they immediately took advantage of, by striking Fumika in the back of the head.

The high-schoolers kept up the momentum, by aiming for a fearful Nodoka, who also had her head turned. Thankfully, that momentum was stopped when Asuna pulled Nodoka back and catched the ball herself. "Honya-chan, are you alright?" The orangette asked in concern.

"I-I am, Asuna-san!" Nodoka sighed out in relief. "Th-Thank you."

"Good!" Asuna nodded. "Don't turn your back to them, or you'll get targeted!"

"Thank goodness for Asuna's 'Baka Power'!" Several of the girls cheered in relief.

Ignoring that statement, Asuna faced the high-schoolers once more. "Here I come! This is the power of us junior high students!" With that growl, the athletic orangette threw the ball in full force…

…Only for it to be caught in one-hand by Eiko.

"Eh~?!"

"But how-?!"

"She just caught a full 'Baka Power' throw!"

"Alright, enough with the 'Baka Power'!" Asuna cried out in irritation.

Eiko let out a snort. "'Baka Power' or not, it's laughable if this is your full power." She remarked arrogantly. "You brats never had a chance against us! Behold our true identities!"

The high-schoolers ripped off their school uniforms… to reveal a different set of uniforms. "Mahora Academy's Dodgeball Club, Black Lily Flowers!" The high school girls shouted together.

"..."

While Negi seemed to be in awe of the group, the junior high students couldn't help but huddle up to one another in private discussion. "They're still playing dodgeball in high school?"

"Isn't it a game for little kids?"

"Don't tell me they were the only team in those tournaments…"

"S-Shut up!" Eiko shouted back, having heard them all and clearly flustered. "Who asked you girls, anyways?!"

"No, no, those are legitimate questions." Harry spoke up, an absolutely blank look across his face. "After all, you girls seem to be a tad too old to be continually playing dodgeball, much less in any sort of competition."

"Yeah!" The girls of Class 2-A all stated in agreement.

"Argh!" The leader of the dodgeball club growled in both annoyance and embarrassment. "Girls, Triangle Attack!"

'Triangle… attack?' If possible, Harry looked even more done with these high-schoolers, while his class started giggling. Who are the younger ones again? It's difficult to tell at this point.

"Negi-sensei, please be careful!" Ayaka warned her teacher, stepping in front of him. "I will lead the defense!"

That defense didn't last long, as the "Triangle Attack" quickly overwhelmed the class president. 'They definitely had plenty of time to master their formations.' Harry mused as two more of his students were taken out. 'Too much time, in my opinion.'

Now there were eleven of Class 2-A left, those eleven being Asuna, Negi, Ako, Makie, Yuna, Akira, Chao, Fei Ku, Nodoka, Konoka, and Misora. Most didn't look confident with their chances of winning.

"Looks like the only ones left are kiddies and slowpokes." Eiko noted as she scanned the group in front of her, before her eyes landed on Asuna. "That would make you our next target."

With that, Eiko tossed the ball to one of her teammates. "Alright, let's use that technique!"

"Ok!" Her teammate then tossed the ball upward.

Eiko then jumped up, getting in front of the sunlight, and blocking Asuna's vision."Agh, can't see!" The orangette cried out, covering her eyes from the sunlight. "She got the sunlight behind her?!"

"Special Death Blow: Solar Strike!" The high-schooler then spiked the ball, getting a direct hit at Asuna.

The elicit gasps from the girls and Negi. "Asuna/Asuna-san!"

"One more!" Another shot of the ball was aimed towards the down Asuna… only for it to be caught by one hand.

That catcher was none other than Harry. "She's already out." The Boy-Who-Lived hissed, his eyes narrowed dangerously at the high-school players. "Do something like that again, and you'll be the one out. Got it?"

Eiko gulped, getting chills from the almost snake-like glare stemming from the teen teacher. "Y-Yes sir!"

Harry gave a curt nod in response, his focus being on reigning his temper. It was something that he had to do when he first saw those girls, and it's something that he has to do now. Both times it took much effort not to lash out in any way.

If there's anything the sixteen year old mage hated in the world, it was bullies. He dealt with them when he was a kid, unaware of magic; seen them during his time as a wandering mage. Heck, he could count a few of the adults in his past bullies.

And every time, he can't help but feel a certain type of disgust for those types of people. For those that would pick on people that they deem lower than them, just for whatever feeling of superiority they gain from it.

"We'll have a three minute break." Harry called out to everyone. "The game will start back up once the three minutes are up."

He then turned away from the high-schoolers, and turned his eyes towards Asuna. "You okay, Asuna?" The mage asked, holding out a hand for her.

For a moment, the orangette could only stare at him in a stupor. "Y-Yeah." She accepted the offer hand, and let herself get pulled up by Harry. She couldn't help but turn away shyly, a small blush across her face. "Thanks."

"Think nothing of it." The teen mage replied back, smiling. The orangette blushed even further at the honest smile aimed at her.

"A-Asuna-san!" Negi ran over to both teens, a worried look clear on his face. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah, don't worry." Asuna reassured him. "Didn't get anything worse than a slight sting thanks to Potter."

Despite her reassurance, Negi couldn't help but feel anger over the high-schoolers on the other side. 'Those girls try to hurt her on purpose!' He thought angrily. 'They've been doing mean things all day!'

The young teacher felt his magic coursing vein. However, before he could lash out in any way, he felt someone grab his shoulder. "Negi, don't." Harry warned him in a hushed voice. "I know what you're thinking right now, and while I don't blame you, lashing out isn't going to help anything."

Negi looked down, feeling slightly frustrated. "But Harry-san…"

Asuna quickly figured out what was about to happen. "Brat, weren't you the one to suggest this dodgeball game? To keep things from getting violent?" She pointed it out to him. "You'll be as bad as they are if you resort to violence."

"She's right." Harry nodded in agreement. "Trust me, there's nothing more I would like to do than give these girls good smacks to the heads. But that's not our job right now." He turned his head towards the gathered junior high students. "Our job is to support our students and get them motivated."

"Asuna-san… Harry-san…" Negi looked at the two in awe… before gaining a determined look.

Harry smiled, noting the look on Negi's face. "I'll leave it to you to bring their spirits up." He whispered to the kid, patting his shoulder before moving back to his original spot.

"Sorry guys!" Asuna called out to her team sheepishly. "The rest is up to you!"

"A-Asuna-san!" Ako's eyes watered, watching as the orangette walked out the ring. "Without Asuna, we're done for!"

"It's the end for us!" Makie wailed in despair.

That's when Negi decided to speak up. "Everyone! Don't lose hope now!" He called out to his students, facing them all. "Haven't you heard what Asuna-san said? If you turn your back now, you will just continue to be targeted! If you face them and the ball, you just might be able to catch it! Let's… let's do our best to win this!"

The remainder of the team felt themselves struck, both by Negi's words and his look of determination. But with those words, they felt themselves regaining their spirits, and soon enough, they faced the high-schoolers in a more united front.

The Boy-Who-Lived silently nodded at Negi's encouraging words, smirking. 'Glad to see you finally growing into the teacher role Negi.'

(Flashback)

"Is it really okay for a ten-year to teach a bunch of teenagers? An all-female class, no less?"

After the incident between the juniors and seniors, Harry walked with Takamachi to have a small talk; the talk being about Negi, and his capabilities of teaching a group of female junior high students.

"I mean no offense to the kid; he's clearly smart and has a lot to offer to the girls in terms of knowledge," Harry continued, with a skeptical frown clear on his face. "But it's clear that not many of them really respect his role as a teacher. They're nice to him, sure. Affection, even; but they can't really look past his age."

"The incident with the high-schoolers didn't help much either." He said the last statement with a sigh. "He had absolutely no control over the entire fight; if it weren't for you, it probably would've escalated."

And if he had gotten involved, the teen mage wasn't sure he could keep his temper completely in check around those bullies. He wouldn't harm them, at least not anything past pulls to the ears, but he might've not been to bite his tongue over their actions either. That's why he let Takamichi handle this.

Takamachi nodded to all of this, a relaxed expression still across his face. "It's true that Negi's age is quite the hurdle for his training." The teacher acknowledged. "But that's part of the test, isn't it? To climb the hurdle, and have the girls see him as the teacher he is."

Harry frowned further. "Do you really think that's possible?" He asked. "Can Negi really pass a hurdle like that?"

"Didn't you face down a family of trolls at age eleven?" Takamachi retorted. "Or a Basilisk at age twelve?"

Harry snorted. "There's a difference between facing down monsters and stopping a fight between hyper-active teenage girls."

The older teacher chuckled at that. "True enough, though I wonder which is the more difficult task." He then took a whiff of his smoke, before exhaling a cloud. "I believe Negi can complete this task. Though it's up to him to make those jumps; to grow into his role as a teacher."

The black-haired teen thought about Takamachi's words. Honestly, after what happened with the high-schoolers, he can't help but think that Negi may be way over his head. He has the potential to be a good instructor, sure, but to keep the peace when students butt heads with one another? To be a confidant for those students, someone that can give an ear to anyone who asks?

"I'm glad that you're concerned for Negi." Takamachi said, breaking Harry out of his thoughts. "With you watching over him, then his chances of succeeding have gone up significantly. So continue watching over him, will you?"

"No need to ask me; it's my job, after all." The Boy-Who-Lived replied back, reclining his head. "And while I think you overestimate my abilities… I'll be there to help Negi with any challenges he faces."

(Flashback End)

And now it seems like his concerns were becoming unwarranted. Something to which the teen mage was glad for.

"Alright, Team Negi, the ball is yours." Harry announced, passing the ball to his students.

The one who caught it was Akira, who wasted no time making a fast and strong throw at one of the high-schoolers. "Out!" Harry declared, blowing his whistle.

"All right!" Came the cheers of several of the Class 3-A girls.

"Ghk…" Suffice to say, the high-school team were caught off guard by the sudden throw. "D-Don't get cocky, you brats! You just got lucky with that weak throw!"

With that statement, the girl who had said it threw the ball directly at Ako. The short-haired, in response, instinctively kicked the ball in a panic, striking another high-schooler out.

"Oh! That's our soccer club manager for you!" Yuna said in amazement. "A breakthrough shot!"

"Hey, you can't do that!" Eiko protested. "That's cheating!"

"U-Um, technically…" Nodoka spoke up, raising a hand. "There aren't any rules stating that you can't kick the ball back at the opponent. In a way, it could be counted as catching and throwing it."

"What?! You don't even have a rule-book with you!"

"Yeah, how can an amateur like you know?!"

"Actually…" Nodoka meekly held a book in her hand. "I always carry a sports compilation rulebook with me."

The dodgeball club members recoiled in shock at that. "Th-That's…"

"To nip this argument in the bud, I'll allow it." Harry spoke up, getting heads to turn towards him. He gave a mischievous smile. "Like Nodoka said, there's technically no rules against it. Just like there's no rule in blocking your opponent's vision with the sun." That earned more recoils and flinches from the high-school girls.

"Way to go, Honya-chan!"

"Way to be such a cool teacher, Harry-sensei!"

Growling in frustration, Eiko and some of the other girls tried another Triangle Attack to eliminate another junior. However, just as they made the first throw, someone ran to the direction of that throw and caught it.

That someone was Misora. "Got it!" The girl cheered, grinning. "Now take this!"

She then made a few flash steps before throwing a fastball at the team, taking another girl out. "And there goes our track field member!" Yuna cheered before noticing the ball up in the air. "Dunk shot!"

The brunette jumped up and grabbed the ball, before making a dunk on another dodgeball club member. "You little…!" Eiko growled, trying to grab the ball.

Unfortunately for her, a ribbon suddenly grabbed the ball before proceeding to strike multiple high-schoolers. The owner of that ribbon being Makie. "Okay, don't tell me that this isn't against the rule!"

Thus continue the brutal turn-a-round, with the remaining high-schoolers barely surviving against the sudden onslaught of their juniors.

Eventually, time was called. "Game over!" Harry called out, raising a hand. "Winner: Team Negi!"

"We did it!" The 2-A group cheered, several of them jumping up or clapping hands with one another.

"That was an impressive comeback." Harry remarked, walking over to Negi. "It looks like your words had a big effect on them."

Negi blushed, though a happy smile was on his face. "I'm glad I was able to-"

"We still got over-time!"

Both boys turned their heads, to see Eiko aim the ball towards Asuna. "Oh, no!" Negi gasped, moving to block that. "Asuna-san, look out!"

However, Harry was quicker. Just as the ball was spiked, the Boy-Who-Lived got in front of Asuna and catched the ball one-handed once more. "You know, I try to be civil with you girls…" He sighed, his eyes closed. "I try to reign in my temper; to give you chances to act like the mature students you're supposed to be."

"But it's clear now…" The mage opened his eyes once more to give a seething glare. "That you brats needs a lesson in humility!"

With that, he threw a powerful, magically fused fast ball right at Eiko. The girl was barely up to catch it, however, she was pushed several feet back by the throw.

And it also caused her clothes, along with her teammates', to be ripped to shreds.

For a moment, there was silence on the roof-top. Then, when the girls realized that their uniforms were gone, they screamed in embarrassment before covering themselves up. "W-What the hell was that?!" Eiko squealed.

"A little trick I picked up back home." Harry snarked, his glare not leaving them. "Now, I suggest you get off this roof, and away from my students. Now!"

Thoroughly intimated, and completely embarrassed, the girls ran away. "W-We won't forget this!" Eiko vowed, right before the roof.

"Harry-sensei! That was so awesome!"

"What kind of special shot was that- aru?!"

"You looked so cool there, sensei!"

"I really wished you could've been in our time instead of being a referee!"

Harry sighed, massaging his forehead to calm himself. He probably went a bit too far there. No actual regrets, but he should pay for those girls' clothes when given the chance…

"Hey, Potter." The mage turned his head, to see a crossed arms Asuna, her own head turned away and a blush across her face. "Thanks for the save, both times. You… you looked really cool there."

The teen mage blinked a few times, before smiling in response. "Like I said, it's no trouble Asuna. And those high-school brats needed a good hit to their pride."

"H-Harry-san…!" Negi quickly went over to his fellow teacher's side, a worried look across his face. "Was that really okay to do that? And with magic, no less…?"

Harry sighed, shrugging. "Maybe not." He admitted. "But at that point, it was clear they weren't going to listen to reason. Now was as good a time as any to give a few whacks in the head. Besides…" He gave the co-teacher a mischievous smirk. "Who says that was magic? It was merely a skill I picked up during my travels."

Negi's eyes widened in surprise, immediately seeing the ruse Harry created. 'There really is a lot I can learn from Harry-san…'

Suddenly, the two teachers found themselves swarmed by their students before being grabbed and tossed in the air. Both were too shocked by the sudden swarm to do anything other than go with it.

Off to the side, Evangeline was clapping softly as she looked at the two boys. "Quite the powerful throw he had there…" She commented idly. "And I sense that it's merely a small fraction of his power."

"Is it possible for Harry-sensei to challenge you, master?" Chachamaru inquired.

"Possibly." Evangeline mused, not looking at all that concern. "Depending on how much of his legend is true, he could prove to be an annoyance. I trust that you will deal with him if he gets in the way?"

"As always, I will carry out your commands master." Chachamaru replied dutifully. "Harry Potter will not interfere with our plans."

Evangeline gave an evil smirk. "Good."

And that's the end. I hope you guys enjoyed the chapter. Next up will be the Library Island arc, for which I have a few ideas as to how to change things up there. Will it translate to a faster update? Uncertain, especially with other fics on my mind. But hopefully, it won't take nearly a year for me to update this once again (Though don't quote me on this). Review, favorite, and follow and I will see you guys later.
