Howhard could it be? You are just telling your father that you are getting a babywith the woman you love" Did Adam thought on the way over to his dad. Adam was on the over to his dad to watch a Blackhawks game together and to tell him that Kim is pregnant. He and Kim had talked a lot since he asked her to get married and she said no, they had made up with a plan. Co-parenting, Adam wanted more but at the moment he was happy with being there for the baby when it's born and the next following months. Their unit knows already and the both of them felt comfortable enough by now to tell other people as well. Adam just wasn't so sure about his dad, his dad has a gambling addiction and they both know it but nobody wants to admit it or more Bob doesn't and there was also Adam's childhood. His childhood had been shity, his dad was at the district or at a bar and barely home, his mom left when he was five and since he was five it went all down. When he was fifteen, he found out that he has a little sister, Kate, she was the result of an one night stand his dad had and she was his princess, Bob was more there for her than for his son with whom he lived with. So why should he want his dad to be in the life of his kid, the drinking and bad bets making pops or what? That made Adam come to the next question, why is he even then telling his dad. Yes, he is his dad and since Adam graduated from high school Bob was more there for him which ended when Adam got into intelligence. He didn't know what happened between Al, Voight and Bob but it must be a damn of a thing, Bob literally hated it that Adam worked with Voight and that was even before the thing last year. His son went to jail because of Hank Voight and Bob Ruzek wasn't pleasant about it, he had called Atwater and Burgess multiple times to find out what happened with Adam just to find out they didn't know either but when his dad visited him at jail he ignored him first but at the end he had a conversation just about Bob telling him that this is a mistake and that it's just Voight's fault. Adam tried to explain him the story the best he could after his release and Bob little understand what his son did. Since then they tried to meet up twice a month but the last month he couldn't come either he was on a case or he and Kim had discussed their situation they got in. The baby was unplanned and that was an understatement but he loved it, Adam needed a bit time to rap his head around the idea of getting a baby but was now happier since ever and Kim was alright as well. His little rice grain baby had him wrapped around its fingers already with nearly having fingers develop already but it had and he would do everything for it. Adam was pulled out of his thoughts when he pulled into the familiar street to his dad. He sat there for a minute to sort his thoughts. Then he took the little box which was on passenger seat and left the car. He had thought about taking the box with him or just dropping the bombshell on his father but at the end decided to take the box with him.
Adam went towards the door and knocked to let his dad know he was coming in before opening the door with the key from under the bird feeder. "Hey, Pops I am coming in." Adam let his dad know. "Hey son, you nearly missed the start of pregame." But greeted him from his armchair. "Hey sorry for not showing up the last month, work kept me busy." Adam said and it was true, Halstead was kidnapped and since then they were one man down but now Jay is back. "No problem, what's that?" Bob asked pointing to the box in Adams hand as he sit down after patting his dad on the back. "Nothing." Adam said and put the box under his coat. "Beer is in the fridge anyway." The older Ruzek told his son. "Maybe later..." Adam answered. He wanted to do the sober thing for Kim, at least tried and his beer consume went to low, everybody thought he will get back to his old beer consume in just a few weeks but Adam wanted to make it and Kim was a bit impressed. "My son isn't drinking beer? You good?" Bob questioned him. "Yes, thought to lose my little beer belly." Adam lied. "You are sporting and your belly is barely showing. Just drink one, it won't hurt." The elder man said. "Later, I haven't said no, pap's." Adam said. "Alright if you want you know where to find it. So, what's your guess who is winning." Bob said and Adam knew the next minutes where only going to be about the latest games, which he missed unfortunately the most of.
"Have you seen the amazing touch down Trubilsky made last game against the Seahawks?" Bob asked, Adam knew which game he referred to, the game he watched the highlights of after he and Kim met the night before. "Saw it in the highlights, it was really good one, missed the game, haven't thought they would win that." Adam said. "Why do you miss so much right now? Is everything fine? The thing from last year is clearly over?" The older Ruzek asked. "Everything is fine, pap's. You don't need to worry." Adam reassured his father. "You know I never not worry about you, I am your father. I know I haven't been the best dad earlier in your life but I want to make it right now." The father told his son. And started speaking of Adam's and Kim's little issue, Adam was worried about Kim 24/7 which annoys her and they argued about that a few times already. "I get it." Adam just answered. "I know you understand that but you won't get it until you have a little one running around." Bob said and saw the sudden change of his son's body language. He didn't miss that something was off with his son and clearly there was something which Adam isn't telling him.
The game started and there wasn't a lot of talking till end of the game. The older Ruzek was happy, the Blackhawks won and of the reaction his dad had he must win a bet. Maybe he should use his dad good mood so he the chance of a good reaction is higher. Adam finally decided what to do, he leaves to pee, which is the truth and leave the box on the table, full well knowing that his dad will to open it. "I am right back." Adam said, pulled up from the coach and left the little box on the coffee table before he left.
Bob Ruzek was curios to find out what is in the box, why did Adam bring it with him, why his son left it on the coffee table. He took the box and opened it. What faced him was the last thing he expected, it was a white newborn onesie with the handwritten words: Ruzek Baby June 2020. He was shocked, the old Ruzek was sure that he sat there for a few minutes and just stared at the content of the box. Adam was back by now but was standing in the doorframe to see his dad's reaction. Then his dad picked the onesie carefully up and gasped. It was surreal to the father, first he thought it might be from somebody else but with every passing second the realization hit him more. "Adam..." the grandpa to be stumbled. "Yes, pap's." Adam answered and the other man jumped a bit of shock that his son watched him. "Is it true...? "Bob asked. "Yes, little Ruzek is on it's way." Adam said calmly and sit down.
"Who is the mother? Are you sure it's yours? What? You have girlfriend?" Bob asked and thousands other questions. "Hold on, yes it's mine for sure and no I don't have a girlfriend." Adam answered calmly. "So, it is unplanned. Do I know her? Who is the mother?" Bob stumbled again. "You know her and you met already, it's Kim." Adam confessed. "The Kim as in your ex-fiancée, partner, friend and girl you still love but she doesn't, Kim Burgess?" Bob said and put his hands to his head. "Yeah, the Kim. We are happy." Adam said. "As I would be after my ex knocked me up after an one night stand! Damn, Adam, I thought you knew better." Bob snapped the first part. "Pap's!" Adam snapped back. "You can't describe it different son, your ex is knocked up by you the ex you still love, it's gonna fail." Bob said angrily. "We are not gonna fail, I am moving in with her, we are co-parenting..." Adam told his dad in a snappy tone. "Because your mom and I did that so well!" Bob snapped back. "At least we are not jumping into a relationship and get married to end up hurting the kid six years later." Adam bite. "Not in that tone son! We were trying to do the best, what we thought would be the best for you." Bob tried to defend him and his dead bet ex-wife. "We are just trying to find a way out that we both be there for the baby and neither of us is gonna miss something of our kid's life." Adam explained.
"Yeah, maybe I was a bit rough but I don't want you to get hurt in the process of trying to be there and then maybe your kid is hurt because you are. I will always be in your corner but please you were so heartbroken after she gave you that ring back." Bob told the younger Ruzek. "I get it pap's. I am scared and all that stuff, we are figuring out what's the right thing but neither of us knows how it will develop in the future." Adam said. "I still have a few questions. How far along is she? When is your due date? Is she on desk duty? Do you know what it is?" Bob apologized and asked some things he wanted to know. "It's a baby pap's. Rice grain is due on 24th June and we are ten weeks and two days along. We haven't found out yet and I don't know but I get the vibe that Kim don't want to find out until it's here. Yes, she started desk duty on Monday, we told Voight two weeks back but Kim wanted to ne so long as possible on the field so we waited till this week, and yes I was okay with her decision." Adam told his dad. "Alright, is the baby healthy? Is Kim alright too?" The older Ruzek asked. "Kim is alright now morning sickness hit her pretty bad but now it's better. The baby is fine, steady heartbeat and no heads or anything else to much, put a copy of my sonogram in the box as well." Adam said and his dad took the box again from the table. The grandpa to be carefully took the onesie up from the box and put it in his lap before he lifted the sonogram.
The cop couldn't believe it, he is gonna be a grandpa, he had clutched his hand to his mouth to hide the gasp. "I can't believe it, I am having a grandkid..." Bob stumbled. "We can't believe it either. But that's the miracle of human life." Adam said as he shrugged with his shoulders. "You can have it, it's yours." Adam told his dad after a few minutes silence where his dad just stared at the piece of paper in his hands. "Uh... uhm... yeah..." Bob tried to say but was lost of words. "Pap's this isn't the first time you see a sonogram, there is nothing unnormal to find." Adam chuckled. "Yeah, but that's my grandkid, it's special. Your child is it. Right now it only might be a blob of cells but it's half you and half Kim, a miracle you did create." Bob told his son. "A blob of cells which has such a power above us, it only has a size of a rice grain but I love the blob of cells already, I am so scared what the future holds for us and if I am gonna be a good father." Adam said and sit down next to his dad to look at the grainy picture as well, he maybe already looked at the picture for hours but Adam Ruzek would never get tired of looking at his baby. "Are you happy?" The father suddenly asked his son and they both looked in each other eyes. "Yes, I am, everything is happening a little fast but I am." Adam answered. "I just want you to be happy. I may need time to rap my head about it and have my doubts but I am supporting you and Kim with the kid of yours." Bob said and hugged his son. "Thanks pap's." Adam whispered in his dad ear.
The to guy's talked a bit longer about everything and nothing till Adam needed to leave to get on time to Kim to discuss a financial thing. But the son wasn't sure what to do with his dad still, he may be happy about the baby but the son knew that there will be point where his dad is gonna let him nor his child fall. His father was still s gambling addict and normally Adam would never let his kid alone with an addict. Maybe there will be a time his dad is babysitting the child and goes with it to a bar and leave it there because his dad drank too much after losing a bet, did Adam thought. Though Bob was his father and his kid deserves a pop's. There were so many things Adam thought what would go wrong, at least he know one thing for sure, he will do everything to protect the little rice grain size blob of cells.
