It's been a while, but the new trailer at E3 got my creative juices flowing and I had to finish this. So here we go.
Zelda was concerned. The road was gone. There used to be a road that led to Kakariko from here, but it was gone. She looked at the Sheikah Slate, frustrated at the lack of map. She could only see the Great Plateau. Thankfully she could remember the innumerable times she traveled to the village of the Royal Families most valued servants.
At least, she thought she remembered. There was no road. It had been 100 years, but there were no signs that any road had been here at all. Zelda took a deep breath, and roughly exhaled. She was not sure how to get there without the familiar road. She could have sworn that the Sahasra Slope led to Kakariko, and that slope was next to Goponga Village.
But there was nothing. Zelda leaned back into Link's firm chest, glad that they still only had one horse, and ecstatic that they were now on a moderately comfortable saddle instead of bareback. She was also glad she was no longer wearing that dreadful white dress. Leekah had given her some clothes. The shirt was an ugly tan, and the purple pants clashed horribly, but they were clean and comfortable.
"I don't know if this will take us to Kakariko village." Zelda admitted. At least she would be alone with Link for a little longer.
"Hang on tight." Link directed Epona, a sharp turn and charging across the flooded plains of what was once a village. Link drew his bow and released two arrows. Zelda watched them arch through the air. She could barely see the electric Keese as two were shot down by Link. She could see the electric Wizzrobe.
Zelda began focusing the Light of the Goddess Hylia. It probably wasn't needed. Link was more than capable of handling everything on his own, but she needed to do something.
Zelda could see what was happening now. There was a man with a wounded donkey. The Wizzrobe was hit by an arrow. She didn't even notice that Link shot at the monster. It fell to the ground, and Zelda unleashed a fragment of the light.
An orb of Light a bit bigger than she intended formed, consuming both the Wizzrobe and the man. As the Light faded the monster was gone, and the man unharmed.
"Did you see that? Look!" He was awed one moment, then devastated the next. "My Donkey!"
"Can we help?" Zelda asked as they got closer.
"She can't do anything with this!" Zelda could see the burn, jagged, red and blistered. The donkey was on its side, making weak noises.
Link swiftly dismounted, Marched to the donkey, and applied a poultice to the wound. The donkey's cries grew louder as Link rubbed the poultice in, and the man soothed his animal.
Zelda got off the horse, and approached the poor animal. "What's your name?"
He was barely paying attention, he muttered "Cambo," keeping his focus on his donkey.
Zelda looked at the Sheikah Slate, went through the menus, and selected a bundle of wood. The wood materialized in blue light, and she started a fire near the donkey, hoping to keep them warm.
Link finished applying the poultice, and got back on Epona. "There's some Lizalfos over there. Let's get them." Link said as he offered her a hand.
He wanted her help with this. She knew he could do this easily, but he wanted her to go with him. It was wonderful. She couldn't contain her smile as she grabbed Link's hand and he pulled her up. Zelda took up her seat in front of him, leaning back into his magnificent chest. She focused her light.
"Cambo, your donkey should pull through. We'll make sure no other monsters bother you." Link said as they rode off. They charged toward the Lizalfos, as Link drew his bow Zelda unleashed her light before Link could attack. It grew and consumed two of the Lizalfos.
Link shot four arrows hitting two other Lizalfos in the head twice each, causing them to fall and mostly dissipate into malice.
Then she saw it. A Guardian. She remembered Link's last stand near Fort Hateno. She didn't wait, she unleashed the light and consumed it faster than she ever had before. When the light dissipated, nothing had changed. She wasn't sure if it was active, or if it was active before she attacked it. She just attacked.
Well, the Guardian may still bother her, but there was a shrine close by, and she would adore a chance to investigate it.
"HEEEY!" Zelda stiffened as she frantically looked around for the voice. She couldn't see anyone. Link directed Epona toward a deeper part of the swamp. Then Zelda saw her, a young Zora woman swimming. She didn't realize that any part of the swamp was deep enough to swim in. "I knew it! You two are Hylians, aren't you?! Yes, you must be Hylians! Otherwise you're two unfortunate-looking Zoras!"
"We could be unfortunate looking Gorons." Link joked back, and Zelda had to restrain a giggle. She was not used to Link making any jokes. Was this what he was like before the pressure of being the Knight Chosen by the Sword that Seals the Darkness? She had never heard him make a joke before.
The Zora didn't bother holding back her laugh. "That is another possibility! Your timing couldn't be more perfect if you tried! I was ordered by Prince Sidon to find a Hylian, and you two are incredible! You stopped those Lizalfos like they weren't even there! I've been searching non-stop! I certainly wasn't just floating around and splashing in the water for fun!"
"Prince Sidon. Of the Zora Royal Family?" Zelda was taken aback, she hadn't looked in on how he was doing for a long time. She had glanced at how other people were doing, using the Goddess given powers. However the last time she looked at Sidon was from Hyrule Castle, while she was containing the Calamity. At least she thought it was Sidon, it was much easier to watch Link.
"Exactly! He's waiting at Inogo Bridge, which is on the other side of that tall tower that sprang up. I do hope you'll go meet him!"
"Right now? Is something wrong?" Link asked.
"Ah, my apologies. For us Zora, this is our top priority right now. If you could please go to Prince Sidon, we need a Hylian's help with the flooding."
"Flooding? What about Rutala Dam? Is it still structurally sound? What-"
"Prince Sidon understands that stuff, not me. I think. Just ask him."
This was bad, Zelda wasn't sure what to do. They needed to go to Kakariko Village, but could they leave something so important? She hated to admit that she didn't have to make many choices like this. She always followed, dignified and ordered, only really making decisions once she awoke her sacred powers.
"What's your name?" Link asked. Zelda blinked. They just had a full conversation and she had no clue who this was.
"I am so sorry, I didn't realize I didn't introduce myself. My name's Tula." The Zora girl told them.
Zelda smiled, she knew that Link would simply give their names, but she could finally beat him to the surprise. "I am Princess Zelda, and he's my personal Knight, Link."
The look on Tula's face was beautiful. Disbelief and confusion danced across her face, then she looked toward where the Lizalfos were, and Zelda could see as Tula made the connection to the Sacred Power Zelda used. Her jaw dropped. "You're a Princess?"
"Yes she is!" Link said with a smile. "Tula, we'll go see Sidon, but could you do us a favor?"
And Link was making the decision on his own. "What do you need?"
"We just helped someone back there, Cambo. Could you make sure he and his donkey are okay? Stick with him overnight and keep him safe for us, please?" Link asked.
"Of course, I'll bring him a fish! Now go see Prince Sidon right away!" Tula said as she dove for a fish.
"Link, can we look in the Shrine first?" Zelda asked. "It's close. Please?"
"Sure, but we need to hurry, they need our help." Link said.
"Of course." Zelda smiled at Link. "Zora's Domain will be great for you. With how long Zoras live, quite a few of them are sure to remember you."
She was not expecting a worried look to cover his face at that.
Now then, hope this was nice, we will keep going from here. This story will be exclusively Zelda's POV, for now. Might change if I think it will help the story.
