- Story Start -

Everything about Zhou ZiShu captures Wen KeXing's attention.

His exquisite shoulder blades, those sculpted cheekbones, his pretty collar bones and the obvious fact that he wears a disguise. Because no disguise in the world can hide the grace of the Swift Moving Steps, the slim and supple waist, and the ramrod straight spine.

Too bad the equally obvious disdain for money, the contrasting love for liquor, and the lack of concern about tomorrow all point worryingly to a person not bothered to care for himself.

This strange urge that seizes Wen KeXing and compels him to follow this man... it's like an itch that leaves him baffled.

- o -

The urge doesn't leave. In fact, it grows stronger with each eye roll, each deadpan stare, and each cold shoulder.

But really, why would Zhou Xu walk when he can rest, suffer thirst when he can drink (unless it's wine), and get himself killed fighting alone when he has help, when Wen KeXing and his beautiful, lethal fan is fully at his disposal?

And for free!

Regardless, Wen KeXing follows him around, his obses - ahem, protective streak deepening when they collect a sweet little orphan whose every step is fraught with danger. Alright, so the orphan isn't exactly little, but he's sweet and as innocent as a newborn. Certainly weak and cute enough to qualify as one.

There - Zhou Xu couldn't possibly begrudge his help now, not when he and the sweet, defenseless little boy depend upon Philanthropist Wen for their very survival!

Not that his A-Xu isn't capable, of course.

This strange urge to shadow both man and boy increases proportionately to the need to lavish compliments and quote poetry to said man at every possible opportunity. He ignores A-Xiang's puzzlement, basks in ChengLing's tentative smiles, and revels in A-Xu's exasperation.

By now, Wen KeXing isn't just baffled. He's also befuddled.

- o -

Thanks to his unfortunate circumstances, the sweet child grows adorably clingy. It's something Wen KeXing couldn't have abided in the past. Thanks in part to bringing A-Xiang up, he can't resist cooing over ChengLing because he's a part of the Zhou Xu package. If flirting with the man is enormous fun, then teasing him via their - ahem, the cute boy even more so!

Wen KeXing can't believe Zhou Xu remains heartlessly immune to the boy's pleas to be taken on as disciple. Thankfully, he can see the stirrings of genuine worry in those beauteous eyes and the downward curve of those pretty lips.

Oh, would that his A-Xu be half as worried about him!

Needless to say, Wen KeXing follows them on their journey to Sanbei Manor and deliver ChengLing to Chevalier Zhao who, when compared to Chevalier Shen, is all affable smiles and generous hospitality. Wen KeXing doesn't trust either of them, but can't spare much thought. His old grievances take precedence, warring with his fixation for Zhou Xu.

A-Xu's martial arts is top of the line, his reflexes lightning fast, his sword flexible and deadly. And after that incident in Zhao's coffin house followed by their fight - ahem, flirting by the lake, that horrible hobo disguise is gone for good.

Truly, the man is a beauty beyond compare! Which Wen KeXing already knows, of course. Now that he has his A-Xu all to himself, he delights in it and ignores the irony of the terrifying Chief of the Ghost Valley subserviating himself to the ex-leader of an assassin group.

By now, Wen KeXing isn't just baffled or befuddled, he's also enchanted.

He might not know it yet, but he will soon find out that he will move Heaven and Hell and everything in between just to keep this one man safe.
