[A PIG'S GREED]

– PROLOGUE –

"I do."

—A rush of adrenaline breezes over Subaru as he stares down his reflection in the mirror; a determined, yet nervous look crosses his face. His heart begins swiftly beating as he looks away from the mirror, oddly nervous.

Subaru turns back to the reflection, regaining his composure and staring himself down once more.

Subaru: "I. Do."

His confidence slowly builds as he proudly smirks at himself, having accomplished his goal.

Subaru: "I do!"

All of a sudden, the feeling of accomplishment fades and Subaru's smirk along with it.

Subaru: "...Ah, I suck at this…!"

He pulls at his tie, which is neatly tucked into his formally attired suit.

?: "Oi, you don't wanna tear that awesome lookin' suit just yet, do ya now, captain?"

Subaru turns to the complementary-suited Garfiel, leaning against a large, wooden door in the corner of the room.

Garfiel: "Don't cha wanna look nice in front of Miss Emilia when ya readin' out ya v- vo…?"

Subaru: "They're called vows, Garf."

Garfiel: "Vows, right! Either way though, you do wanna be lookin' fabulous, right?"

Subaru lightly chuckles before looking over to Garfiel with a warm grin on his face.

Subaru: "I really do appreciate it, Garf. Just a little stressed is all. It would be so much easier if I could just see her smile one more time before I head to the altar."

Garfiel: "Heh, sorry to say, captain, but I've been given strict orders by Otto to keep ya away from Miss Emilia."

Subaru: "No, I understand.. just really wanna see that cute face at least once more, just to get me ready for today, ya know? Still…"

He takes a deep breath, turning back to his reflection for a brief moment.

Subaru: "The show must go on."

Garfiel: "...Eh?"

Subaru: "Anyway, haha.."

Subaru nervously tightens the tie around his neck and straightens his collar.

Subaru: "Let's just get this started. I've had enough distractions for the day."

His distressed, tired expression morphs into a wide smile and squinted eyes; a hint of joy lost in the endless seas of pain waving through his mind, all being put to rest at this very moment.

Garfiel: "Ya ready to get hitched?"

Subaru: "How could I not be?"

If Subaru was happy, that meant Garfiel was happy. The next course of action for Garfiel is to watch his captain get married to the one they love. He tightly clenches his fists, gritting his teeth. He looks up to Subaru: his captain.

Garfiel: "You got it, captain!"

Subaru grins toward Garfiel, realizing how much he's changed over the course of the year they've known each other.

He began thinking about how Garfiel went from a foe that needed to be watched at all times to someone who can help him put his suit on the right way at Subaru's wedding. He releases a sigh of relief from his mouth and grins, looking back at the mirror.

Subaru: "Alright!"

His grin widens as his reflection shines back at him. He turns his body around, now facing toward the large door Garfiel is leaning on. Garfiel steps aside as Subaru approaches the door. The two nod to each other with smiles on their faces as the door opens; the light temporarily blinding Subaru, causing him to shut his eyes.

His eyes twitch for a moment as the cold breeze sweeps over his face. The grass is perfectly cut and bright green. Subaru peacefully opens his eyes to the hill-ridden environment, a top of the hill in front of him lies a warm, young maiden staring back at him. Her silver hair flowing in the wind, a tender smile on her youthful face.

Subaru: "Echidna…"
