It was just past 3am when Kara quietly placed her bag on the floor and closed the front door. After 6 months at sea, Kara was elated to be home. She loved her job but she also loved coming home and being with her family.
She stopped by Frankie's room first, her son was fast asleep and half hanging off the bed. She smiled as walked into his room and carefully tucked him safely back into bed before she pressed a kiss to his brow.
Kara left Frankie's room and headed to her own bedroom where she found Danny laying across her side of the bed hugging a pillow. She was half tempted to jump on him and wake him up but it seemed cruel. Instead, she climbed onto the bed and hugged Danny from behind.
"You're home early." Danny murmured sleepily as he woke up.
"Tides worked with us." Kara said Danny turned in her arms and gave her a sleepy kiss.
"I missed you." he told her, he snaked his arms around her and pulled into his body. Kara relished being in his arms and pressed against his body, the scent of him enveloped her like the warm embrace. She relaxed into him.
"I missed you and Frankie, how was everything?" she asked, Danny had made the transition from military to civilian life as a stay at home dad and part time instructor at the Naval base. Something that Kara knew from experience was not easy. If she were honest she never imagined Danny would do it.
She can still remember the day he came to her and said he wanted to retire. Kara had worried about his decision but supported him. She had to admit it worked out well for them as she was able to pursue her career goals while Danny took care of the home front.
It had been a rough transition for them all, but they finally found a happy medium. Frankie was thriving, Danny and Kara were happy in their respective roles. She loved that the man she'd fallen in love with, had come back. He was smiling and laughing more than ever before. Coming home to him was just how she dreamed it, the only exception was that he was more devastatingly handsome every time.
"Good, I recorded Frankie's soccer games and there's a diorama about the Nathan James that you have to promise not to laugh at." Danny told her.
"Is it that bad?" Kara asked in amusement.
"Let's say the figurine for Captain Chandler is a very loose representation of the man. In my defense, there's only so much I can do with cotton wool, toothpicks and wire." Danny said, Kara giggled as she could only imagine the struggle Danny went through. He squeezed her in his arms and sighed "I'm so glad you're home."
"Me too." Kara said.
