Chapter one: (unnamed, maybe give suggestions?)

-Nothing looks different, it's all the same.

I thought to myself as I scrolled through each day in my time burrow. Something big had just happened, and yes I know that I should know everything that happens, at least involving the Miraculous. But I had no idea what would happen that day. The future I had explored showed no abnormalities that I could trace back to that day, so I just never thought to look.

-There must be something in the timeline that changed, come on! Wouldn't Hawkmoth be able to succeed if-

I couldn't find anything. It was all pretty normal in the more distant future.

-I have to look closer.

So I stepped into what was the next day, and it didn't look like there was any difference. Not at first...

-I need to find Marinette. She's Ladybug, and she loves Adrien. I really have to talk to her about Hawkmoth, before she does anything stupid.

Little did I know I was already too late. At the time, all I knew was that it was entirely possible that Hawkmoth could finally win. Gabriel was so self-centered that I was sure he would only be stronger after what happened.

-I just need to make sure that I don't let that happen, that I don't let him win. I'm not sure how it will play out if he does.

After all, the future isn't, and was never, set in stone.

A few minutes and some weird looks later, I finally arrived at the Dupain Bakery. I hopped up to Marinette's balcony and knocked on her trapdoor.

"What the heck? Who are you and-and how did you get here!"

A shocked Marinette asked me once she finally came onto the balcony. She tripped over the trapdoor and hit the brick wall behind her, as she was walking backwards, probably to get away from me.

-But why? Why doesn't she...

"What do you mean? I'm Bu- ohh crap."

She didn't recognize me, which means something must have gone wrong.

-If she doesn't know who I am... does she know the other superheroes? Does she know who she is?

"So you don't know who I am, at all?"

I asked her as I rested my elbows on and leaned back against her balcony railing.

"No! Now tell me what you're doing on my balcony before I call the police!"

Marinette reached into her pocket, pulling out her phone.

"No! Please don't..."

I let out a frustrated sigh. That situation was annoyingly difficult.

"I'll tell you why I'm here, but I really need to know the answer to this question first."

Marinette was a bit confused, which, for the record, makes a lot of sense.

"Okay..."

She stood in the same defensive pose with her arms grabbing the wall. She really was... scared of me. I didn't realise it until later.

At the time, I just needed to know one thing.

"Do you know Ladybug?"

I asked as I stood up straight, really hoping she would say yes. Though, part of me knew...

"Huh?"

She wouldn't.

Marinette's expression changed once I asked the question. She looked even more confused, and a little irritated.

I already knew something was up, but that was the moment I realized there was a huge problem. Ladybug, or at least the Ladybug we know, no longer existed. Or maybe, never existed in the first place...

"You don't know her- oh no. Have you heard of Cat Noir, Rena Rouge, or Hawkmoth?"

At that point, Marinette was definitely annoyed with me.

"No... who are they? Some members of your creepy dress up club, lady?"

-Just like I thought, no superheroes, whatsoever.

Thinking back on that whole situation, it must've been incredibly weird for Marinette. I mean, a grown adult in a bunny suit appears on your balcony and asks about people with creature-related names? That is... not exactly my greatest look.

"This is bad, really really bad."

-If there's no heroes, or Hawkmoth...B-but there is definitely an Adrien, or Marinette would be devastated, right? Not to mention his death would be the headline on every newspaper in France.

"What's bad? I have no idea what's going on and I have to get ready for school!"

Then we stood in silence for a couple seconds, while I was distracted thinking about all of this.

"So please just get off of my balcony!"

Marinette shouted at me.

As someone who knows how everything is supposed to turn out, something like this, completely unexpected, is a total nightmare.

-There was another year before Hawkmoth should get a hold of Ladybug and Cat's Miraculous, why didn't I know about this. Did Hawkmoth get his wish yesterday?

One thing I didn't know was how the wish would be granted. Hawkmoth was never going to actually get his wish, so I never found out how it's given. But I did always have my theories, a particular one was starting to make a lot of sense...

"Yeah, I definitely have to go. I don't think I can tell you anything. I just have to fix this."

I turned around and climbed over the railing, then started walking down the street.

-Something big would've had to change for this to happen. I know how the future of the Ladybug and Cat Noir story is supposed to pan out, and this is not part of it.

To quote Cat Noir (again), 'The future isn't set in stone.' It's unlikely, but never impossible for the future to change this much. I just had to make sure that it didn't, not then, not like that.

"...Okay? I hope you find your friends."

Marinette told me as I was about to hop down. I honestly could not tell if she was being sarcastic or not.

"Yeah, me too."

There is a time when Ladybug and Hawkmoth were supposed to discover eachother's identities, there is a day when he will have defeated Ladybug and Cat Noir. September 4th, 2016, was not that day.

-I know Hawkmoth must've gotten his wish. If none of us exist, then Gabriel never became Hawkmoth, which of course means that...

As I finished that thought I found myself standing by the gates of the Agreste Mansion.

-I won't know for sure until I find out which one of Adrien's parents are there. I'll have to get a look inside...

I looked around to see if maybe there was a building so I could peek through a window, but even then I probably wouldn't see anything. Then I got an idea.

-Fluff! I'll detransform so she can fly up and- but no one is allowed to see either of us.

I had to remember that 14 year old me existed that day, and I could never forget that Kwamis should never be seen.

-I'll have to get either me or fluff inside somehow... or wait for someone to-

I turned my head at the sound of the gates opening, and who would walk through them? It was no other than...

-Adrien and Emelie?

I quickly ran and hid behind a corner so they couldn't see me.

-So it is true, both Adrien and his mother are back from the dead. That's exactly what I thought.

Everything came together and I knew I had to go back and stop this from happening. My friends and I never got our Miraculous, Emilie is alive, Hawkmoth never came to be...

Wait.

I'm getting ahead of myself. This isn't where the story starts, and I forgot to introduce you to the characters. You'll need to know a bit of an overview before I hop into this story.

I guess I'll start with our protagonist, Marinette, also known as Ladybug. Marinette Dupain-Cheng was once a simple 13 year-old Parisian girl, but her "normal" life completely changed when she was given the ultimate power of Creation.

Now, how does a regular teenage girl such as herself aquire such power? Through none other than the Miraculous, a collection of magical jewels powered by Gods. It sounds crazy, but it's all true.

These Gods (known as Kwamis) would take the form of whatever creature the society it's found in generally associates with that power. Tikki, the Kwami Of Creation, resembles a Ladybug and gives her wearer a spotted pattern on their costume.

Now, Marinette wasn't the only teenager trusted with one of said Godly powers. Her then close friend from school, Adrien Agreste, was also given a power. His was that of Destruction, which when applied would put him in a black cat costume (hence the name "Cat Noir") and give him the ability to destroy nearly anything with a single touch.

There were other heroes too, with the powers of Protection, Illusion, Subjection, Intuition, and more. But the two holding the powers of Creation and of Destruction, ying and yang, are of course, the focus.

These two heroes weren't supposed to let anyone, not even each other, know their true identities. It was way to risky. That was of course because our heroes were given their powers for a reason. Like with all superheroes, they had an "evil force" to fight against. In Ladybug and Cat Noir's case, it was a man abusing the power of Transmission, and the telepathic abilities it gives him, to create supervilains.

And that man was none other than...

Gabriel Agreste, Adrien's father.

I know, crazy right? I thought so too when I first found out.

I had just gotten my Miraculous and with these new opportunities, what now feels like a burden, felt like a freedom.

Teenage me decided that I was going to uncover all the secrets, starting with who Hawkmoth really was, under that mask.

And once I saw, I couldn't help but think,

-Hold on- but why? What was his motivation in the first place? And how did he end up with the Butterfly and Peacock Miraculous?

I had a lot of questions, and got pretty good answers. But my retelling of those answers won't be good enough for the story, so I decided to get an interview someone close to Gabriel, or at least someone who used to be. Someone who was very involved in his life at the time...
