I'm gonna be skipping over a lot since y'all already know it.
The holidays started, and Percy, Ron and Harry were kept busy. As for Hermione, she seemed to have a schedule for every half-hour.
Opening gifts for Christmas-time came. Aaand Harry's was epic.
"A freaking Invisibility cloak? Are you kidding me?" Percy was stunned.
"Put it on!" Ron demanded excitedly.
Harry nervously put it on. The second he did so, his body disappeared and only his head remained visible.
Ron jumped back in shock. And as well he might-one doesn't usually see heads floating in mid-air.
"Wow-,"said Percy.
"Wait-there's a letter!" and Ron dived down and grabbed it.
"Interesting..." said Harry, almost to himself, as he read the cryptic words.
Percy and Ron were busy examining the cloak.
"Wait-lemme read it," and Harry absently handed it to Percy.
He read it with a frown, then handed it back to Harry with a grin.
"Wow, my father is pretty cool-"nice pun-" but even he doesn't have an invisibility cloak."
Harry laughed.
The feast was well-a feast. For Percy, it was one of the best things he had ever eaten, rivaling even ambrosia, and considering that was the food of the Gods...
"You Brits sure cook well," he commented.
All in all, it was pretty good feeling for Percy, knowing that for once in his life he could finally relax and not be constantly worrying about monsters who kept reforming even if you killed them.
At night, he'd a bad dream. Annabeth featured in it, and it also included an angry Arachne. So you could kinda guess how that went-badly.
He awoke.
He heard a slight noise. He froze and instantly reduced the pace of his breathing to make it sound like he was asleep.
Another, and the door of the dormitory opened-from inside.
Alright, time to use my brain. Only someone inside could have opened it-that's a no-brainer. But I didn't see anyone and no one here can become invis-what! I'm so dumb.
Mentally scolding himself, he checked Harry's bed to confirm his suspicions.
It was empty.
Percy jumped up.
He wasn't making noise, he was curious to see what what Harry was doing.
And he had a few tricks too.
Over the few weeks he'd got after the Giant War, he'd developed a skill out of boredom. After all, it wasn't like he'd got much to do.
Okay, let's see how this works.
He took the water bottle from his table and poured it over himself. It was too less for what he planned, but increasing the amount was an easy task.
Right.
He concentrated, and he could the water molecules shifting-bending-rearranging themselves. He concentrated more.
This was unusual, because unlike most things he did with water, it didn't apply force or power, nor was it particularly powerful.
Instead, it relied on skill and discipline. Percy was powerful, but skill was an entirely different matter.
It worked on the water drops imitating the characteristics and texture of the surroundings.
Thus, it was a form of invisibility.
He called it Μανδύας νερού.
However, it required a lot of concentration, and Percy being the scatter-brained ADHD demigod he was, it was very tough. But Percy was determined, and last time he tried, he was able to keep it up for ten minutes.
Right, let's go.
The technique was flawed, but it would work, provided someone didn't look directly at him and there wasn't a bright light nearby.
Also, it was dark and Harry probably wouldn't think anyone was following him, so Percy wasn't too bothered.
By this time, he'd reached the common room.
As he moved forward, the portrait of the Fat Lady swung open.
The Fat Lady squawked with astonishment, and Percy smirked slightly.
He was already feeling it-the thrill of adventure-of the unknown.
Gods, I've missed this feeling...
He crept forward noiselessly-well, almost.
But Harry's ears weren't as sharp as some creatures Percy'd met, so it was pretty fine.
Percy moved along, and Percy followed. It was only due to his enhanced senses that Percy was able to guess where Harry was going, otherwise he'd lost him long ago. As it were, Percy nearly missed Harry several times. I'd make for a useless hunter, hardly being able to track an eleven-year old who's not even bothering to cover his tracks!
On the last one, Percy was convinced that he'd finally lost Harry, and was berating himself, when he was interrupted by a scream.
He jumped.
And anyone would-for one doesn't hear such screams on a regular basis.
What the Hades was that!?
There was a thud, a sound of feet moving quickly, and a drawing in of breath.
Ah, so it was Harry. But who screamed?
Percy had no time to ponder over the question, as he hurried off after Harry.
Harry apparently was in a rush to get away from the library, as his footsteps seemed noticeably loud and this time Percy had no trouble following him.
Harry kept on going through corridors to the point where Percy began to wonder if he planned to stay there all night, running and even his demigod stamina was giving out.
Finally, he heard Harry's feet taking a sharp turn and going through inside an abandoned classroom.
Alright, what will he do now?
Percy watched curiously for a while, then turned to check out the room, which was unremarkable except for one highly remarkable thing- a mirror as high as the ceiling.
Wow, this looks like one Aphrodite might use... except that it isn't pink, of course.
He edged closer and looked straight at the mirror.
He froze.
In the mirror was Annabeth, he was wearing a Camp Half-Blood shirt and his SPQR tattoo showed clearly. In the background, he could see a New Rome fountain.
No, nooo. Please, gods, no.
Even though he knew the image the mirror was showing him couldn't, wouldn't be true, Percy so wanted it to be.
Aaaaughh-
Percy shook himself. It would never do to brood.
He tore his gaze from the mirror and hurried back to the common room. He was resolute; he would NOT dwell on such things. He had things to do, and he could not waste time dwelling on what could be.
But still, he did. He wondered what would be if weren't a demigod.
He might be half-god, but he was still half-human.
As he dropped into bed and slept, his mind wandered and he had nightmares for the first time since coming to Hogwarts.
