Notes: This takes place several years post defeat of BelialVamdemon but nothing else (epilogue/Tri/etc) happened/will happen. Ken & Daisuke have been dating for a couple of years.
Summary: Daisuke declares that he'll marry whoever can beat his high score. Ken always rather enjoyed a challenge.
Daisuke let out a carol of laughter as Takeru dropped the controller and grumbled a few words under his breath that not everyone would have expected to hear from the blond. He snatched up the device and ginned.
"And again, someone else fails to surpass my record," he declared. He glanced to Iori. "And what does that leave us at?"
Iori checked his notes carefully. "You've achieved the highest scores in all the star levels and found a minimum of seventy-five percent of the goals for all the constellations – and every gift."
Daisuke couldn't help the satisfied grin as he turned the game back to his favorite save. "Anyone else want to try?"
Miyako snatched the controller from his hands. "You're such a loudmouth," she told him as she started up her new game. Daisuke only grinned, leaning back.
"It's only true. Ken's the one that came closest," he pointed out, tossing a warm glance towards his boyfriend. Ken smiled back at him.
"It's an interesting game," was all he said, turning to watch as Miyako worked her way through one of the more difficult levels – the cow level. Carefully she guided the ball through the virtual city streets, avoiding anything that looked like a cow, until it was time to get the biggest cow that she could.
Her eyes flicked away from the screen for a heartbeat as the door opened.
That one little moment was all it took. She jerked her gaze back just in time to see her ball roll up a tiny carton of milk.
Miyako stared, her jaw dropped. Her lips twitched and she shook her head, trying to wrap her head around what happened.
Hikari came deeper into the room, holding the bags of takeout she'd brought. "I've got dinner?" She said, looking at the gathered group of humans and Digimon. She blinked a little more. "Miyako? Are you all right?"
"I'm fine," Miyako whispered, setting the controller down. She shook her head, bounced to her feet, and headed over to where Hikari settled down the boxes of donburi, sushi and sashami, and ramen. She'd made at least three stops to cover what everyone wanted to eat, and Miyako wanted that donburi right now.
Daisuke snatched up the ramen and handed Ken the sushi he'd requested. He said something else as he ate, and Takeru frowned.
"Could you say that again with your mouth not full?"
Daisuke swallowed, grabbed a quick drink and swigged half of it down before he tried again.
"I said, I am not only the absolute master at this game, but I will marry anyone who can beat me at it!" Daisuke grinned broadly as he reached for some more ramen.
Three out of the other four merely rolled their eyes. It wasn't the first time Daisuke made some sort of grand proclamation like that. Nor did they ever believe it would be the last.
Ken quietly finished his sushi, cleared away all of the debris, then held his hand out for the controller. Daisuke blinked.
"Uh, Ken?" Daisuke blinked a little. Ken said nothing else, only kept his hand out. Daisuke shrugged and set it into his hand before settling back down to watch.
Ken started at the beginning, a brand new game. In mere moments he'd utterly demolished Daisuke's highest score on the lower levels, not only creating a larger sphere, but doing it in shorter time.
Daisuke swallowed, staring. Ken said nothing, but moved on to the higher level. Again in a few heartbeats, he'd absolutely crushed Daisuke's highest score. If Daisuke had already had the highest possible collection of items, then Ken did it in a third of the time.
Any time Daisuke tried to say anything, the words died on his lips. He watched as Ken effortlessly navigated both cow and bear levels, deftly swerving the ball around all the cows and bears until he acquired the largest ones.
Not for a heartbeat did Daisuke think that Ken did this to show off. Ken didn't do that. He did what he needed to do. But to see him doing it like this – after what he'd said…
No one had ever taken him seriously before. Not like that. Of course, he and Ken had been dating for years, and Ken always took him seriously. Just – it wasn't what he expected. It just hadn't been.
Ken set the controller down and turned towards Daisuke, one eyebrow quirked up a little. Daisuke could feel his cheeks burning.
"I mean – if you want to?" He offered a little shrug. He'd never thought much about being married before but if he were going to get married, he couldn't think of anyone better than Ken. It wasn't as if he'd ever truly, seriously wanted anyone else for years.
"If I have to do it like this," Ken said with an amused shake of his head. "Do you want to get married?"
This question, Daisuke knew the answer to. "Yes."
"Good. Because I want to hold you to your promise," Ken said, intertwining their fingers together. Daisuke wiggled in closer, not paying attention as the others started to argue over which game they were going to play next.
Games didn't matter right now, not when he could lean into Ken's arms and put his own around Ken, and think about the future that they looked forward to together.
"Daisuke?"
He made a quiet noise, wondering what Ken wanted. He hoped it was kisses. He could do kisses.
"Does this mean that I won you fair and square?"
Daisuke decided the only proper way to deal with his fiance was to grab a pillow and smack Ken upside the head with it.
No kisses for Ken. Not until tomorrow, at least.
The End
Notes: And forever after, they celebrated their anniversary by replaying the game. And that is the end of DaiKen Week for me! Shortly I will start Zexal Week, and once I finish that week, I have a lot of WIPs to get back to!
