It was February 2nd 2021.
A 13 year old boy named Leon was standing outside holby city hospital, taking it all in. He was finally going to meet his father.
He had heard very little about his father. He knew that he was in University when he was born. He knew that he left his mum shortly after he was born. He knew that he had chosen his first name and that they shared a last name, but he was longing for more.
Leon's mother had passed away a few months prior which only left him more desperate answers.
Last week he found a letter from his dad addressed to his mum. His dad had written it in 2015. It mentioned that he was a doctor in Holby City Hospital and the names of a few of his friends. It was all that Leon needed to find his father. His father didnt have the courtesy of leaving his name on the letter, so Leon remained in the dark about that.
He had warned his foster family, whom he was now living with that he was going to find his father. They told him not to go, they told him he'd be dissatisfied and they even compared him trying to find his dad to the fault in out stars. This enraged him, which only fueled his desire to find his father.
There was no more time for faffing about. It was time to face the facts. As Leon got closer his glasses, which were now basically broken as the loose hinges made the glasses constantly fall off his face, slid down his nose. He quickly adjusted them running his hand through his light brown hair in the process.
Leon entered the hospital with little to no questioning from the staff around him. He saw a sign that read 'Keller ward, floor 3'. He had recognized it from the letter. He walked towards the elevator "closed for maintenance" was written in Neon yellow letters. Great. He ventured up the stairs, much to his displeasure.
He came in contact with a nurse. "Hello little fella" Leon stared back at him, wanting to continue his quest. "Where do you think you're going." His badge read 'Adrian Fletcher' "Keller" Leon replied shrugging his shoulders. "Where are your parents" he persisted. "Keller" Leon repeated, with a little more aggitation in his voice this time. He could sense that Nurse Fletcher was about to question him further so he quickly turned around and continued walking up the stairs.
Leon eventually arrived on Keller, legs shaking from the stair climb. He wasnt the strongest kid. "Hello young man, where are your parents today" a woman said at the front desk. Her badge read 'Nurse Donna Jackson' "He's here. I'm looking for Dominic or Zosia. Either will do." Leon said through deep breaths.
Nurse Jackson looked puzzled. "May i ask why?" "They know my father" at that moment Leon hoped that they still worked there, and if they did that them and his father hadn't fallen out. Then he noticed that his answer hadn't made Nurse Jackson any less confused. "What's your name, young man?"
"Leon. Leon Digby."
