AUTHORS NOTE: Some parts of the original plot will be altered. I hope you all like it!

"Glaciers have melted to the sea

Things have gotten closer to the sun

I wish the tide would take me over

I've been down onto my knees

So don't think that I'm pushing you away

And you just keep on getting closer

When you're the one that I've kept closest."

Crystallized, The XX

"Better you than me…"

It was as if Harry cursed himself when he uttered those words to Ron. That Goblet right then and there decided that he would be chosen for this event. No matter how much he didn't want to. I knew when I saw those flames grow red a fourth time was the moment Harry's curse had caught up to him.

"Harry Potter…" I could hear Professor Dumbledore mutter. The students that stood around me began to gasp and shock, the distinct muttering of Harry's name filled the room. Harry, who was standing next to me lowered himself quickly as if he was hiding amongst the confusion.

"HARRY POTTER!" Dumbledore yelled out.

"Harry you have to go," I said to him, pushing him slightly toward the headmaster.

"But Y/N-"

"You have to, I'll talk to you when you get out I promise."

He looked at me, his facial features seemed frightened. I grasped his hand, squeezing it slightly.

"You're going to be okay…" Is all that I could say.

His hand slowly slipped away from mine as he stood up, he walked toward the Professors. Each of them had distinct emotions on their faces. Some were angry, others were confused and in shock. No one knew what to do.

"You're all dismissed." Professor McGonagall stated before following the other Professors and headmasters into the champions room. The Students began to scatter, their footsteps echo and bounced off of the walls. I felt a rather rough hand on my shoulder spinning me around, Ron looked at me in anger.

"Did you know he was doing this?" He spat out at me, his face flushed red with rage.

"What?" I answered back in confusion. I looked behind Ron, Hermione looked hurt.

"Oh I see, you're playing stupid for him is that it?"

"Excuse me? I don't know if you had something in your ears yesterday during our conversation but Harry didn't even want to participate in this tournament."

"It would've been the perfect cover story…" I heard Hermione mutter.

"You two can't be serious!?"

"Oh don't even stand here and pretend that you and Harry haven't been planning this ever since you've heard about this tournament." Ron started.

"And you've been closest to Harry in a way Ron and I could never be." Hermione finished.

"We wouldn't do something like that to you guys!" I felt desperate, I didn't want to lose two of my closest friends.

Ron just scoffed and left the hall, Hermione followed him. I stood alone in the dimly lit room. I felt a pit in my stomach that began gnawing at me, my breath felt uneven. It was like I was frozen I was in complete shock over the result of this… interrogation? Yeah, that was a good word for it. I decided to wait a bit before making it to the common room. I didn't want to deal with harsh looks and faint whispers anymore.

Timeskip: 30 minutes later

My nerves didn't calm down as I walked back to the common room. All of the halls were shockingly empty. Thankfully, when I walked through the portrait the common room was just as empty. I sunk onto the couch watching the fire spit out a few sparks. It felt like hours before Harry had finally come down to the common room but, the portrait door had finally opened. A disheveled Harry stepped in. I stood up but didn't move, the nerves were at an all-time high.

"So… how did everything go?" I asked nervously, my hand rubbing one of my arms as if I was cold.

"They're going to make me compete." Is all he said. He walked over to me and we stood in silence for a few seconds.

"You can't be serious… this isn't right you didn't even put your name in the cup!" We both then sat down on the couch.

"It's magically binding, if I don't compete I would get punished."

"Gosh Harry this is awful… I'm so sorry."

"Where's Hermione and Ron?" Dread replaced my nerves… how was I going to tell him two of his best friends thought he planned this entire thing?

"Err… Harry, the school thinks you didn't do this on purpose."

"Yeah, I know that… what does that have to do with them?"

"They uh… believe it too."

He shot up from the couch, his eyes wide anger was replaced with fright.

"You're kidding me right?"

"They think we planned this entire thing out."

"Was… was Ron just not listening when I said I didn't want to compete in this damn thing?"

"That's exactly what I told him, but Hermione and he think it was just a cover story we made up."

"Why are they dragging you into this?" He asked in confusion.

"Hermione said we're closer… that you wouldn't trust a plan like that with anyone else but me."

"I trust them…"

"I know you do."

He sat back down on the couch again, the spitting fire starred back at him.

"What am I going to do?" He asked in desperation.

"I don't know but… we're going to figure it out together."

"But you'll…"

"I can take the heat from everyone Harry, I got your back." I pulled him in for a hug.

"Thank you, Y/N"

"It's no problem."

Timeskip

It felt like the night was going to go on forever, but the sun rose and the new day had begun. The tournament had officially begun, Harry had to be pulled away from classes to partake in an interview for the Daily Profit. I had just left Muggle Studies when I bumped into Ron.

"Y/N…"

"If you're going to accuse me of lying and plotting against you and Hermione I'd rather not hear it."

"Well if you just told the truth I wouldn't have to."

"It's like I talk to two brick walls… get this through your thick skull. WE DIDN'T PLAN ANYTHING!" I left before he could say anything else… this was starting to get frustrating.

I decided to walk to the Owlery, figuring no one is usually there. I was walking pretty quickly eager to be alone again when a familiar voice rang through the halls.

"Y/N?"

I stopped in my tracks and turned around, sure enough, Harry was catching up to me.

"Hey, how'd your interview go."

"The woman couldn't even get my age right… she kept saying I was 12."

I choked down a laugh Harry, however, caught on to what I was trying to do.

"I'm sorry but… does she need her lenses checked? There is no way in hell you look 12."

"You would think.. not to her. Anyways, why are you going to the Owlery?"

"I may or may not have gotten into a little fight with Ron… I thought I could be alone in the Owlery. I couldn't go one class without someone trying to start something."

"Oh…"

I sighed.

"It's not your fault Harry… I know you, you don't need to blame yourself."

We began to walk up the winding staircase and thankfully no one was there. A random owl stood on one of the window seals, a letter was in its beak. Harry rushed over to it, eager to get the letter.

"Who's that from?"

"Sirius."

"Oh, what does it say?"

"I couldn't risk sending Hedwig. Ever since the world cup, the ministry has been intercepting more and more owls. She's just too easily recognized. We need to talk Harry. Face to face. Meet me in the Gryffindor common room at one o clock this Saturday night and make sure no one you don't trust is around. P.S…."

"Ouch!" I exclaimed, the owl that had delivered the letter had bit me.

"The bird bites…" Harry muttered embarrassingly.

"Read a little faster next time okay?"

"Yeah…"

Timeskip: Miscellaneous.

Tensions still mounted throughout the school. Everyone thought Harry was a cheat and I was his sneaky accomplice. Hermione was slowly starting to come around but didn't talk much to us. The only thing she said was this garbled request from Seamus… or was it Hagrid… or Dean? When we listen to her request we were met with the horrors of Harry's first task… battle a dragon.

You could imagine the look on my face as the chain of the Hungarian Horntail snapped off, chasing Harry out of the arena. Hermione and I just sat in shock… and both of us screamed our heads off when we saw him come back.

"This school year is going to give me a heart attack…" I muttered to myself.

"Yeah it bloody is," Rom replied, it was one of the first sentences he muttered to me that wasn't accusing me of something in over a month.

Hermione let out a big breath and put an arm around my shoulders. It was nice to not fight with them… it felt like how it always was.

"You guys wanna go see him?" I asked as we had begun walking down the large stands.

"You go on ahead, we'll catch up in a bit," Hermione replied. I didn't argue with her.

When I had made it to the tent and pulled open the flaps, Harry sat on one of the beds with a sling wrapped around his shoulder.

"Hey."

"Y/N."

"Nice job Potter… you survived one of the most deadly dragon breeds in the world."

"Thanks, and all it took to beat it was a fractured bone."

"You doing okay?"

"Yeah… are Hermione and Ron still-"

"No, they aren't, they said they'd catch up with us in a bit."

I saw relief replace the nerves Harry was experiencing, a small smile made its way onto his face. I sat down in the free space next to him.

"I'm not gonna lie when I saw that dragon get free my heart sank to my stomach…"

"That makes two of us." We both laughed breathlessly.

"Y/N?"

"Yes?"

"I just wanted to thank you for everything… I know I've kinda put you through hell this past month."

"Harry…"

"No really, if I wasn't in this thing in the first place things would've been a lot different this year."

"Harry, none of this is your fault. Whoever the hell put your name in that Goblet is the one to blame. And you don't need to thank me for anything, you're my best friend I'd do anything for you." I leaned my head on his non-injured shoulder. I tilted my head and looked up at him, we both smiled at each other, our hands clasped together…

What else could be better than this?
