- I also strongly advice readers to familiarize themselves with the individual fandoms involved in the story, as I will be writing in a way that assumes readers are aware of the background history.

Important Notes:

- Will be AU for pretty much all fandoms involved

- In this story the HP-timeline is 20 years later than canon (Harry was born in 2000 etc…)

- Some characters will be somewhat OOC (mostly because I might be unfamiliar with certain characters, and/or because I'm unable to portray them properly)

- Contains reincarnated characters

- Some characters may be a bit OP, and somewhat Mary Sue-ish (but in a good way… I hope.)

- I will also be using wikis for the fandoms involved, and I will be using a good amount of my own imagination as well.

- Lastly and MOST IMPORTANTLY; I do draw a lot of inspiration from other fanfics, so there may be plenty of similarities, though I'll try not to outright copy anyone and I will try to leave a note and/or shout-out with those chapters that have heavy inspiration from others, since I do recommend that people read those stories.

Prolog

(August – Year: X777 / 2009)

(Earth; Tomoeda, Japan)

A heavy rain had descended upon the town of Tomoeda. The sky was darkening as the sun was setting, and the shops were preparing to close for the evening. A young girl, no older than 9, was walking slowly down the street, dressed in nothing but a gray, zipper-up hoodie to protect her from the rain, along with short shorts, thigh-length black stockings and calf-length brown boots with thick, sturdy heels. Her face was half hidden by the hood over her head, and her mood was as black as the skies above, after yet another argument with her father. She was in no hurry to get out of the rain, which she found strangely soothing, and just continued walking with her hands in her pockets, trying to clear her head despite being soaked to the bone. The argument had been rather explosive, and it had only further cemented her hatred for the man she would rather call her sperm-donor. Her mother had died just a month ago, and her father was getting remarried tomorrow. She had no desire to attend the wedding, but she was stuck playing ring bearer because the paperwork that would allow her to live with her Godmother/Magical Guardian were still being finalized.

She was also in the process of changing her name, which was what the argument was about. She was taking her mother's maiden name, with the blessing of the current Family Head, but her father couldn't fathom why she cared so much about a dead person. Granted, her parents had been separated since she was 6 years old, something that just wasn't done in wizarding pureblood society. Divorce wasn't possible due to the ritual magic that had wedded them, and marital problems were supposed to be kept private in order to provide a united front to the public. Her mother, Narcissa, had brought great shame on her husband's name by ignoring those social rules, and had thoroughly outmaneuvered him to the point where he still hadn't recovered from the humiliation. Magical Guardians had a ridicules amount of power in the wizard world; power that completely overruled the biological parents' rights over their own child. Lucius Malfoy had, quite gleefully, fought to keep those laws in place knowing how much they screwed over those with non-magical parents, and Narcissa had used those very same laws against her husband, preventing him from arranging a Marriage Contract for their daughter, amongst other things. The girl loved her mother greatly, and she would be forever grateful for the freedom that had been ensured for her. She would never take for granted everything her mother had taught her, and once she was out of her father's grasp, she could finally grieve properly.

"Oh dearie, what are you doing out here in the rain?"

It was a warm, concerned, grandfatherly voice that brought her out of her thoughts. She didn't know when she had stopped walking, but she found herself looking away from the clouds to see the elderly gentleman who came out from a small bookstore with a blanket. The man wrapped the blanket around her and brought her inside. 15 minutes later, young Draconis Malfoy-soon-to-be-Black was walking around the shop in clothes borrowed from the shop owner's youngest grandchild, while her own were being tumble-dried. She was a pretty little thing, with beautiful silvery-blond hair that reached her waist while kept in a high ponytail. She had long side-swept bangs with two strands of hair framing her face, and pretty silver eyes. She was an early bloomer, with a growing figure that gained her a lot of unwanted attention from her father's social circle. That was another reason she hated her father, who kept showing her off like some centerpiece to be sold off to the highest bidder.

The old bookstore had seen better days, but gentle Mr. Matsumoto had kept it going for many years, and was a beloved member of the community. Draconis had visited the shop many times and every once in a while a magical book would find its way amongst the antiques that was proudly displayed in a glass cabinet behind the front desk. Draconis hadn't been here for a while though, and it seemed the shop was closing down as the shelves were in various stages of being emptied, and there were boxes filled with books everywhere. The antiques cabinet had a 'sold'-sign on the front, and several of the boxes had a familiar address on them; seems the majority of the shop had been claimed already. Smiling at the sight, Draconis made a turn to walk back towards the front of the shop, but was stopped in her tracks by a strange rumbling sound, and a faint magical aura coming from behind her.

Carefully looking back, she saw nothing amiss at first, and wondered if she had imagined it. Then, it happened again, and she saw a glow in the corner of her eye. One of the book-spines had lit up for a second. Turning to face the bookshelf, she stepped closer, one hand reaching to the rectangular holster strapped to her right thigh, undoing the button and ready to reach inside. Being too young to have a wand didn't stop her from using magic from a different side of her heritage, although she really shouldn't be using it here. For more reasons than one. Reaching out to the book in question, the object seemed unaffected by her presence, and didn't react to physical touch. Pulling it from the shelf had no consequence, and the only real oddity was the lock with no key in sight. Otherwise it looked like any other fantasy book; sporting a winged lion on the front.

"Here you go, dearie." Mr. Matsumoto said, coming back into the shop with her now dry clothes.

Returning to the front desk, Draconis thanked the old shop owner and quickly changed behind a shelf. When she returned with the clothes she had borrowed, Mr. Matsumoto had prepared a cup of tea for her, which she accepted with a smile. She was going to miss him when he left.

"Found a good book, did you?" Mr. Matsumoto asked, motioning to the book she had brought with her.

"Sort of." Draconis answered. "It just kinda caught my eye."

"I'm afraid there's no key for it." Mr. Matsumoto said. "Got it from a Flea Market, though I don't quite remember where."

Draconis shrugged. "I don't mind." She said. She knew how to pick locks.

"So, what were you doing out there so late?" Mr. Matsumoto asked.

"Clearing my head." Draconis said. "Bad argument with my father. My mom died a month ago, and he's getting remarried tomorrow. I haven't exactly been handling it well."

"Sound rough." Mr. Matsumoto said sympathetically. "I'm surprised that he married so quickly though. When my granddaughter lost her fiancé…well, she hasn't really gotten over it."

"Actually, my parents were separated since I was six." Draconis said, then changed the subject. "I heard you're letting your granddaughter take over the shop. Is that true?" She asked.

Mr. Matsumoto nodded sadly. "I believe that, if she can fulfill her late fiancé's dream, that she can find some new happiness in life." He said.

Draconis smiled. "That's really sweet." She said smiling. "I can't wait to meet her."

As she was finished up her tea, there was a knock on the front door, and Draconis found her Godmother waiting with an umbrella, waving at her. Mr. Matsumoto quickly let the woman inside and out of the still pouring rain.

"Welcome, Miss Kurosaki." He said.

"Thank you for calling." Miss Kurosaki said, collapsing her umbrella.

She was a stunning young woman with bright orange hair down to her waist, with a few braids here and there, and caramel-chocolate brown eyes. Originally from Karakura, Ichigo had moved to Britain to live with her maternal family a little over a decade ago, when she was almost 17, before moving to Tomoeda a few years later, after she had finished her education. Narcissa had Ichigo named as Draconis' Godmother and Magical Guardian shortly after the girl was born, and Draconis and her mother both adored the woman. Narcissa had even followed Ichigo to Tomoeda, so their daughters could go to school together.

"Sorry for worrying you, Auntie." Draconis said, giving her Godmother a hug.

Ichigo smiled sympathetically. "It's alright." She said. "You're going through a rough time, after all."

Draconis nodded and pulled away, then payed for her book and said goodbye to the old shop owner before following her Godmother back out into the rain. She would be spending the night with her loved ones, but tomorrow would test her patience.

Draconis looked at herself in the mirror. She was dolled up to hell and back, and people she didn't know wouldn't shut up about how absolutely stunning she looked, and how she would be drowning in marriage proposals once the wedding was over. Her simple braid was studded with so many precious stones that the weight was giving her a headache, and the make-up made her twitch. Personally, Draconis thought she looked ridicules, and she knew very damn well that her father was showing her off to the male guests since Ichigo wasn't there to shield her from him. Still, she bit her tongue whenever someone told her how beautiful she looked, and stayed silent until she was finally left alone. She looked down at the pillow of silk that held the rings she would be walking down the aisle, and made a decision. She was angry, and she wanted everyone to know it, so she Ex-quipped (AN 1) a small dagger into her hand. Then, she closed her eyes and took a deep breath as she silently apologized to her mother, who had loved her hair, before grabbing her braid and brought the knife up to the base, hesitating for just a few seconds.

FINALLY, I am getting my ish together enough to republish this! I took it down years ago because I dug myself into a hole I couldn't get out of, trying to fit too many ideas into one story, which ended terribly. In the end, I decided to separate all the different ideas and, hence, Chosen Ones was born. I've also decided to make at least three separate parts of Sleeping Dragons for the same reason. Either way things should be loosening up now.

Author's Note:

1) Ex-quip is when a Requip Mage uses their magic to summon/exchange something from their storage.
