Chapter 5: The Truth is Out

When Takeru came back home later that night, he was a total wreck. Not only anything didn't go the way he wanted to but he also found out he had a niece. His brother was a father. He was so absorbed in his thoughts when he walked in that he didn't even notice his father on the couch.
"You're home early." Hiroaki looked over his shoulder and got worried. "What happened, son? Takeru?"
The sound of his name made him snap of his thoughts. "What? Oh, sorry dad. I didn't see you here."
"I know. What happened?"
"I'm not really sure. I'm still trying to process."
"Why don't you sit here and open up?"
"Have you ever felt like the ground beneath you doesn't exist?"
"What?" Hiroaki had a very confused look on his face. "Takeru, please don't talk in riddles. I can't understand it."
"Where's Yamato?"
"He went out to meet his bandmates, but should be back soon. He said it would be quick."
"Damn, I have to tell him later than." Takeru turned to his father. "Dad, it turns out you have a granddaughter."
"What kind of joke is that, Takeru?" Hiroaki asked. "You forgot to use protection?"
"No, it's not me. I swear I always use it. It's Yamato."
"What?! But it's not possible. He only got back about two months ago."
"It happened before he left seven years ago."
"But back then he was with…" The man stopped talking, completely shocked with his discovery. "…Sora."
"Yeah." Takeru nodded. "Sora was pregnant when he left, but she didn't know."
"Oh my God!" Hiroaki buried his head in his hands. "Now I can understand why you came back that way."
"What should we do now?"
"We have to tell him. It's gonna change his world, but we need to. It's his right."
"There's another thing, though."
"It can't be worse than this. What is it?"
"She moved to England."
Hiroaki pressed his palm against his forehead at the same time Yamato walked in and caught the last part of the conversation.
"Who moved to England?" His gaze drifted from his father to Takeru and a puzzled expression appeared in his face. "What's going on? Why is the mood so heavy?"
"Son, sit here." Hiroaki stood up and offered his previous seat for Yamato. "This isn't going to be an easy conversation."
"You're scaring me." Yamato said as he sat down. "Takeru, what's happening?"
The blonde took a deep breath before telling his brother what happened at dinner earlier.

"What do you mean he has a daughter? It's not possible. He spent years away. Unless it's from a woman overseas he met during this time."
"It isn't." Mimi said. "A few weeks after he left, Sora found out she was carrying a baby. His baby."
"Oh God. This is gonna crush him."
"Sora decided he would never find out about her, but we…" Mimi corrected herself when Taichi fake coughed next to her. "I thought he had the right to know. That's why I asked Hikari for your number. I figured it would be easier to tell him instead, as I'm not sure about how he would react."
"To be honest, not even I know how he's gonna react. I have to admit I'm finding it hard to believe myself."
"I'm sorry for telling you like this." Taichi said. "We didn't know how else to do it. And I'm not close to him anymore, so…"
"Oh right. You two used to be friends when you were in high school."
"Yeah." The brunette looked away sadly.
Hikari gently touched his hand, causing him to look at it and then at her. She knew he often missed Yamato, but so much had happened through these years regarding their friendship.
"We have a picture of her." Mimi said in an attempt to lighten the mood. "Wanna see?"
"Sure."
The brunette went through the photo gallery in her cellphone to find a good photo of Yumi and slid it on the table when she found a good one. "This is she. Her name is Yumi, she's six years old."
"She's so pretty!" Takeru said in awe. "She's the exact replica of Yamato, it's surreal."
"Yes, she is." Hikari agreed. "She's the sweetest and cutest girl ever. You'll find out when you get to meet her."
"So how can we get to meet her since Sora doesn't know you all told me about it?"
"That's when things get complicated." Mimi paused and bit her lower lip. "She knows Yamato is back and she panicked at the thought of them possibly meeting, since she stills lives in Odaiba. She decided to move to England with her boyfriend and Yumi."
"What?" Takeru asked. "That makes things harder now."
"It does." Taichi said. "Do you think Yamato will want to meet her?"
"I don't know. I think first he'll need some time to process everything. Maybe after the idea settles in. A child is a huge change into someone's life."
"Of course." Mimi nodded. "As Hikari said, she's the sweetest girl. Sora raised her pretty well. I'm sure you'll love her. And he would, too."
Takeru smiled. "Well, is there anything else we still need to talk about?"
"I don't think so. Just let Hikari know whatever Yamato decides to do after he takes everything in."
"I will." The blonde boy stood up. "I'll see you soon, I guess."

Yamato looked like a statue in his seat. Takeru didn't think it would be possible for him to be paler than he already was, but he was.
"Yamato, are you okay?"
"I-I have a daughter? Sora had a baby seven years ago."
"We are just as surprised as you. I wish there was a better way to tell you, but there isn't one about these things."
"Did you see her?"
"What?"
"You said Mimi showed you a picture of her. What does she look like?"
"She's so cute, Yamato." Takeru said too excitedly. "She looks just like you! She has the same blue eyes and blonde hair."
Yamato instinctively smiled and then something hit him. "Wait, you said she looks just like me?"
"Yeah. A perfect replica. I wish I had a picture to show you. I'm going to ask Mimi to send it to me. We exchanged phone numbers."
The older blonde then remembered the little girl he met at school a few days ago. "I might have met her already."
"What?"
"Remember that day when I asked you if you ever had a feeling you might know someone? I was referring to her." Yamato admitted. "I had barely met her and felt like I've always known her."
"It's mostly like her, then." Hiroaki stated.
"If that's so, she is truly the sweetest." He smiled. "Sora did an amazing job raising her so far. I just don't get why she moved away."
"You know that?"
"The girl told me when I saw her crying in the hall. She said she was moving to England, but didn't want to go. And I told her to talk to her mother about it and say how she felt." Yamato stood up and headed to his room.
"Where are you going?"
"I can't handle it right now. I need to go out and cool my mind."

"You think this will change something?" Koushiro asked.
"I don't know. But I have a feeling it will."
"I'm not worried about Yamato to be honest. As far as I can remember, he'll do the right thing." Taichi said. "Sora is the one that worries me."
"Yeah, she's gonna have a hard time if he decides he wants to know Yumi."
"Well, now it's done. There's nothing we can do from now on."
"We should get going then."
Taichi, Hikari and Ken went to pay their parts of the meals. Koushiro began to follow them but noticed Mimi had stayed in her seat. He returned and sat beside her.
"Mimi, are you okay?"
"What if you're right?"
"About what?"
"Sora being angry at me for telling Takeru, and consequently Yamato, about Yumi."
"That's bound to happen. We did meddle into her personal life and made a decision for her."
"Would you believe me if I said I'm starting to regret it?"
"I would." He nodded affirmatively. "But we can't go back now. The truth is out and we can only hope Sora takes it the best way she can."
"I feel like I betrayed my friend. I stabbed her." Mimi felt her eyes getting wet from tears.
"I wish I could say you didn't, but I would be lying. I'm sorry. I know that's not what you wanted to hear, but I have to be honest with you."
"What if she doesn't want to be my friend anymore?" The woman looked at Koushiro with a desperate expression in her face. "We've been friends since we were five. I can't lose her, I can't!"
"Hey, it's okay." He pulled her close and started rubbing her back. "I think she will be very angry at first, but I have faith you two can work things out in the end. Just hope for the best and everything will be alright."
Mimi couldn't help but smile. "You're unbelievable, you know that? I'm so grateful for having you as my boyfriend."
"I'm just as grateful for having you as my girlfriend. I couldn't have asked for a better one."
"I love you." She said as she placed a hand on his cheek.
"I love you too." He pressed his lips against hers, but pulled away quickly when he noticed she wanted to deepen it and eventually they would lose control of their actions. "We need to go. The others are already waiting for us."
He stood up and offered her his hand. She took it and they headed to restaurant cashier.

About twenty minutes later, Takeru walked into Yamato's bedroom and found him putting a fancy black shirt on.
"Are you going out?"
"Yeah. I said I need to clear my head, so I sent a text to my band mates and they agreed to go to this dance club nearby."
"Is that how you expect to solve everything?"
"Takeru, Sora left, okay?" Yamato almost shouted at him. "There's nothing I can do now. She clearly doesn't want me anywhere near her and I have to respect her wishes."
"Yumi. Her name is Yumi."
"Yumi." Yamato said softly. "That's a pretty name."
"She's your fucking child too! You're not doing anything wrong! It's your right to meet your daughter!"
"What am I supposed to do, huh? Hop on a plane to England and knock on their door telling her I know everything and I came to meet my daughter?!"
"If it's necessary, than yes!" Takeru shouted. "That girl didn't want to move away in the first place! Isn't it what you told me a couple of days ago?"
"It is." The older blonde nodded. "Look, I know you probably want to meet her. But this isn't how we have to handle everything."
"So are you just going to wait until she comes back?! What if she doesn't?"
"What's happening over here?" Hiroaki asked as he stood by the door.
"Dad, please knock some sense into Yamato because he really needs some right now."
"Why? What did he do?"
"It's more what he…"
"Takeru wants me to hop in a plane and go to England to find Sora and I told him I'm not doing that."
"As you shouldn't."
"What?! Dad!"
"It's not how it works, Takeru." Hiroaki said. "Yamato can't show up so suddenly. This is a serious and delicate situation. As far as we know, she doesn't know she has a father. The girl's well-being is our main concern here."
"So are we just supposed to wait for the right time to come? Well, newsflash! It may never come!"
"I didn't say that. Of course we have to do something. But like I said, it's a serious situation and we can't do things in a rush. We need to be careful."
"Can we discuss this tomorrow?" Yamato asked as he sprayed some of his favorite cologne on his neck. "The guys are here already and I don't wanna hold them up. Oh, an don't wait up for me."
"Where are you going?"
"He's going to get drunk and maybe get laid." Takeru said annoyed. "That's what he's going to do."
"If I'm lucky enough, I might get laid indeed." Yamato winked sarcastically. "Alright I'm off. Bye."

The first thing Yamato did when he and his band mates walked into the bar was to look around the place. It sure seemed a cool place; the blue lights matched perfectly with the vibe of the bar.
"Wow, Akira." Yamato addressed to the drum player of Knife of Day. "You sure know the best places in Odaiba, even after so many years living in another country."
"Thanks, man." Akira replied proudly. "This place also has some great artists. Maybe we should talk to the owner and see if we can play a gig here some time."
"Do they play rock music?"
"They're pretty eclectic. They usually schedule rock bands on weekends, when more people come to hang out here."
"Anyone up for a beer?" Hiroshi, one of the guitar players of the band, asked.
"I am." Yamato replied. "I need to relax more than anything tonight."
"What happened, Yamato? You seem quieter than usual."
"It's nothing really." He shrugged. "Just unexpected news I can't handle right now. I'd rather not talk about it, if you don't mind. We came here to have fun."
"Alright."
The boys sat on the individual seats by the drink section and watched around. The place was starting to get crowded. Very often, they would discreetly point to a girl and whisper some comments about her. Kazuo was the only one who didn't participate in this because he was engaged to a woman he met during the tour.
"That girl can't stop looking at you, Yamato." Akira pointed to a long-haired brunette woman wearing a short black skirt, a black and red top and black boots, who didn't even hide her smile when he looked back at her. "She looks hot."
Yamato flashed her one of his best smiles and the girl turned her attention to her group of friends, but still smiling. She often stole glances at him at the corner of her eye.
"She's so into you."
"Maybe I should buy her a drink."
"What if I buy you one instead?" She asked beside Yamato and then ordered a drink to the bartender.
Yamato looked at Akira and Hiroshi, silently asking if they also saw when she had approached them but they only shrugged.
"Sure." He replied finally.
"One more of this." She ordered to the bartender. "I'm Mayumi, by the way."
"Y-Yamato."
"Patriotic. I like that." She handed him the drink.
"Sex on the beach?" Yamato asked with an eyebrow raised.
"It's one of the best things ever." Mayumi's eyes flashed mischievously as she took a sip of her drink. "Both ways."
"So Mayumi, what else do you like?" Yamato stood up and a smile appeared on his face.
"Maybe I can tell you as the night go by. That is, if you're interested."
Yamato could hear Akira and Hiroshi whistle behind him. Even though she wasn't exactly his type, he really needed a distraction tonight. He gave them a discreet thumb up and then put a hand over Mayumi's shoulder as they headed to a quieter place.

Each one has their own to deal with situations. Do you think Yamato will go for it with Mayumi? I'd like to read your thought on it.
