The sound of mixing could be heard.

I really hope they enjoy this DJ thought to himself as he was making the marinade.

He was wearing a black t-shirt with shorts and a white apron with a little heart on it, the words "from Momma with love" was plastered on it. He looked to be enjoying himself.

He had no recipe book for what he was making, it was a recipe his mother taught him. Extremely secret, he even locked the kitchen door so that no one would see what ingredients he put in.

He felt a little heavy though. Most of the time he enjoys cooking, it's relaxing, it's something he's always enjoyed doing, well mostly doing, what happened during Total Drama Action was an exception.

However this time he just felt nervous, uneasy. He respected and loved his mother so much. He didn't want to screw up the recipe that has been brought down through generations. He heard that his grandmother taught his mother the same recipe. He's likely to also bring it down to his kids if he had any. He could feel the weight of both himself and all his ancestors on his back.

He continued on, however, with a bit of determination. This isn't the first time he's made this recipe but each time did feel stressful, it just felt disrespectful to screw it up.

He shook his head a bit and started to focus again as he mixed the last ingredients for the processor.

Meanwhile, outside of the kitchen, two guys and a woman were conversing with each other.

"Yeah man, it was kinda crazy actually. Got forced to go to cadets due to juvy. Made me wake up at 5 am and eat these shit rations." Duncan was explaining. He wore a black shirt with a bunch of studs on it as well as a spiked collar, black jeans with a bunch of chains on and black boots. His hair was his usual green mohawk.

"Jeez, dude. That sounds really rough" Geoff commented. He was wearing a pink shirt with blue jeans. He didn't have his hat on however he did have longer hair which reached his shoulders. He also had a bit of a goatee growing.

"Sounds very deserved, really," Momma said, she wore a purple sweater and a navy blue skirt, she also wore a gold coloured necklace and had medium length black wavy hair.

"Eh, it was rough though" Duncan commented.

"Well if you didn't want rough treatment, don't be a rough person then" Momma rolled her eyes a bit.

"Hmm… well anyway... looking back on it, it was some fun memories. It's funny how I was sent there for punishment but ended up having fun and not really feeling like a punishment." Duncan chuckled.

Geoff nodded. "Yeah yeah… I can see that. I would never be able to do that myself though but you do you, dude, it's great seeing you again though."

Duncan smiled a bit. "You too. Crazy how I bumped into DJ in town. I was originally just visiting the shopping centre as I heard they had a good store for new clothes."

"Yeah, the stores here are great actually. Devon tends to go to them a lot." Momma said.

"Yeah dude, got this sweet shirt from there" Geoff smiled. "We've been pretty much hanging out a few times a month. Usually, we would go to the bar or something together, me, him, other friends we made here as well." Geoff smirked. "Sometimes I would invite Bridge along as well."

"Ah still together?" Duncan asked.

"Yeah yeah, all good" Geoff smiled and then looked at the kitchen door where DJ was cooking.

Duncan smirked and then curiously glanced also.

"He's really putting his heart in there you know." Geoff smiled and then looked at Momma "He talked with me about how he wanted us to try your recipe and everything. Was a little nervous about it"

"Oh, he's always been quite a nervous person. He really needs to relax sometimes… He's a good cook. I'm sure whatever he does with the recipe, it'll go well…. As long as he doesn't completely ruin it that is... " She mumbled at the end.

"Hm." Duncan blinked. "Bit weird really. I don't really care as long as it tastes like food" He chuckled lightly.

"I wonder how he's doing…" Geoff pondered.

DJ tasted the mixture and winced a little.

Eugh… not salty enough.

He grabbed some salt and sprinkled some in, he kept taste testing and adding salt until things were right.

Hmmm I feel this needs more spice as well.

He glanced over at his bag of chillies and blinked.

Huh…

He walked over and noticed that it was empty. He felt a bit of panic.

I can't be out now…

He frowned and ran over to the cupboards to check if he had any more. There was nothing.

No no no…

He dashed over to the fridge and opened it, hoping he just misplaced it in there. He rummaged through all the boxes, bags, everything and it was just nothing.

Momma won't like this… she won't. It's not spicy enough!

He was sweating profusely, everything felt tense. He was unsure what to do.

His eyes then widened as an idea sparkled into his brain.

He looked at the kitchen door and then at the window.

I can just head to the shop and get some chillis quickly and it'll be like nothing even happened… It'll be like that Simpsons episode.

I hate to lie like this… but I think it'll be better overall

He hesitated the idea for a moment and then sighed.

Ok… let's do this.

DJ's worried expression calmed down a bit, he took off his apron and walked to the window. He looked back at the kitchen door just in case and then opened it.

The store is only 15 minutes away. Plenty of time to say I'm just prepping.

He looked down from the window and saw that there was a bush that occupied the area outside the window. He frowned a bit as he saw plenty of brambles and stingy nettles.

This is going to be an issue...

Maybe… I should just tell Momma or even just make a weaker recipe…

He thought for a moment and then shook his head.

No… I need to make the perfect chilli for her and my friends.

He looked determined, he suddenly squeezed out of the window and landed headfirst into the bush.

"ACk!" He shouted a bit and then covered his own mouth.

I hope no one heard me…

He felt pain in his arm and saw that a few spines from the bush were stabbed into it. He winced as he saw them stuck into his arm. He frowned and pulled each individual one out, a bit of blood was seen but no cause of concern. He sighed and carefully walked out of the bush.

He looked back through the window to make sure no one was alerted. There was no indication of such.

The gentle giant proceeded forward, going left towards the shops and tending his arm during the journey.

The growling of Duncan's stomach could be heard.

"Hungry?" Momma asked.

Geoff smirked.

Duncan blinked. "Yeah, I guess so. How long does this recipe take anyway?"

"Well, the poor boy already screwed up by not already marinading the chicken. I heard he was making a quick one that can settle for an hour. So I imagine the prep will be an hour and a bit at best. Then cooking it will take time too. Like 40 minutes or something depending on the circumstance." She blinked and just kept thinking.

"... look my maths isn't the best but that is like…" Duncan counted on his fingers. "Two hours?! Gah! Can we go get a snack or something?"

She frowned. "No that would be rude. The food will be better if you're hungry."

"Hey dude, chill. It's only two more hours, I'm sure we can just talk and get your mind off it." Geoff reassured.

"Hm… right…" Duncan groaned a bit.

It was hot outside. Even in DJ's light clothing, he was sweating, it must've been at least 30C.

You'd think I was back in Jamaica…

In the distance DJ could see the supermarket, it was a bit busy today. People were coming in and out quite madly. He hesitated to go in but continued walking anyway as he knew this was the only place to find chillis within a reasonable distance.

As he approached he discovered why it was quite packed today, there was air conditioning inside. DJ grinned to himself as he knew he would be cooled down soon.

He stepped through the opened automatic doors, he closed his eyes and sighed in a bit of relief as the cool air instantly hit him.

That's the stuff…

He stood there for a moment.

"Erm… sir…?"

He continued to stand there.

"Sir."

He was too deep in the moment.

"Sir!" Someone shouted.

"EEp!" DJ jumped a bit and looked to the side of him, it was a female employee.

"Excuse me, can you please not block the entrance." The employee blinked.

DJ looked back behind him and realised that he was blocking the entrance, there was a line of people and trolleys behind him. His face suddenly went red.

"O-oh! My bad, I'm sorry ha.. Ha.." he chuckled nervously before scuttling away.

He was looking around for the fruit and veg section.

He could see in the distance. There was a lone bag of chillis on a shelf. He smiled and started walking towards it.

As he walked, he made contact with a pair of eyes in the distance. It was an older man wearing a flat cap.

As soon as their eyes made contact, they knew exactly what they wanted. Their eyes glanced at the chillis between them and then back to each other. To them, each second felt long. It felt more like a battlefield than an actual supermarket, everyone else but each other and that bag of chillis felt invisible.

DJ felt a bit heavy as he was looking. Usually, he would've let the man get the chillis but Momma's pride and appreciation was on the line here. He didn't know which one to sacrifice, his good-natured self, or part of his relationship with his mother.

Before he could make a decision the man darted towards the bag, pushing past people and going around trolleys. DJ's eyes widened and then he started to dash towards the bag also.

DJ kept an eye on the man, the man was quick for his age, even in DJ's well-maintained body, he didn't know if he could make up for the man's headstart. He tried his best not to push anyone out of the way and simply took longer detours to reach the bag.

He kept an eye on the man as he continued. He saw an empty unoccupied trolley.

That's it!

DJ smiled and ran to the trolley, he climbed in and grabbed one of the mops on a shelf. He then proceeded to push himself in the trolley like a rowing boat, gaining a much high speed, people noticed and cleared the way before they could be hit.

For momma!

The man's eyes widened as he saw DJ closing in at a high speed. The man walked past another trolley and was about to grab the bag until suddenly DJ grabbed the bag and zoomed past in the trolley.

Yesss!

DJ hugged the bag and smiled. He was too preoccupied with the bag to realise where the trolley was going.

"Watch out!" The cry of one bystander was heard.

DJ blinked and looked ahead of him, he saw that he was heading for an aisle of alcohol.

"Ahh!" DJ braced for impact.

Suddenly he heard the sound of a collision and then everything went black.

"Man what's taking him so long." Duncan slammed his fists against the table. "I can't even smell the food cooking!" Duncan got up. "I'm going to check it ou-"

"Sit your butt down." Momma sternly demanded. "I'm sure he has a good reason and if he's willing to share he will."

"Wow, you trust him a lot huh?" Geoff said.

"Of course I do, he's my son after all. I know him well and he tells me everything. If there was truly something wrong he would've told me by now." she smiled to herself lightly. "He may be prepping a bit more is all."

"It's been 2 hours." Duncan groaned.

"And if it becomes another 2 then so be it." Momma frowned. "Be patient."

Duncan sighed. "Fine. Whatever."

"And get your elbows off the table," Momma demanded.

"Yes ma'am…" Duncan took his elbows off.

DJ coughed, his vision was fuzzy. He could hear muffled noises. He felt confused.

What… what.. What's happening.. Huh...akc…

He felt immense pain in his head. He struggled a bit as he tried to move, each bit of movement caused more pain.

He wanted to shout in pain but just felt too weak to. He continued to struggle until everything went black again.

All DJ could hear was the sound of beeping. He opened his eyes, everything looked a bit fuzzy. He coughed.

"Gh… where… what…" DJ opened his eyes, he saw a white ceiling.

"Ah… Devon Joseph, you're awake." A brunette woman was standing there nearby reading some sheets on a clipboard. She was in a turquoise shirt and trousers.

DJ blinked and looked at her. "Oh uh what happened? Uh..."

"Dr. Mathews." She smiled a bit. "You had quite the accident at the supermarket. You smashed into a shelf of alcohol. Luckily for you, you didn't cut yourself too bad with the glass and no bones were broken, only a few bruises."

"Well that's good" DJ smiled. "What about the… damages…"

"I don't really handle all that but I'd expect some fine or something in the mail" she blinked.

"Right… right…" He looked down a bit guilty.

I deserve that honestly… Why did I do all that…

He sighed and looked up at her. "So... does that mean I can leave then? I uh, got somewhere I need to be." DJ blinked.

She shook her head. "I'll need you for an hour or so, I need to just perform some tests on you just to make sure everything is ok. I'll be back" She smiled and walked off.

DJ watched as the doctor walked out.

He looked around and saw that he was the only one in the room. DJ sighed a bit more. He felt something in his pocket.

"Oh…?" He pulled something out of his pocket. It was the bag of chillis, a bit squashed but still intact. DJ stared at it.

Stealing… I'm seriously going from DJ to CJ from San Andreas.

He glanced back at the doorway and then the window.

I'm sorry doc, but I need to get back to momma and finish that meal.

The three were just sitting. Geoff and Momma were talking while Duncan was just texting on his phone.

"Woah that's amazing! Swimming with dolphins?" Geoff's eyes widened.

"Yeah, me and Devon really enjoyed it. I saved up a lot for that holiday and it was really worth it" She smiled.

"I'd have to try it sometime with bridge" Geoff smiled.

"Oh, you should! I'd love to try it again but I think age has gotten to me" She frowned a little.

"Ah, come on, you're still young! You could easily be seen as DJ's sister." Geoff chuckled.

"Ah stop you" Momma chuckled also.

Duncan groaned. "I really need food."

"Stop your whining." Momma frowned at Duncan. She sniffed the air. "See? Can't you smell that? It's cooking."

The kitchen door opened a little and DJ popped his head out. "S-sorry for the w-wait!" he sounded out of breath. "D-dinner should be done in 30 m-minutes."

"Why do you sound exhausted?" Momma questioned.

"Oh… it's just hot in here." DJ wiped his brow.

"Hmm…" Momma squinted her eyes.

DJ felt nervous as he watched.

"... alright." She blinked.

DJ smiled and nodded and then went back into the kitchen.

He walked to the oven and looked at the chicken cooking inside, he could see it sizzling.

He smiled and sniffed the air.

A job well done… ah…

Now I'm sure momma will enjoy it

"Dinner is served!" DJ smiled as he walked in with a tray of jerk chicken.

"Finally!" Duncan shouted.

"Duddee! That looks so good!" Geoff grinned as DJ placed the food on the table.

"Eat up guys" DJ smiled and sat down.

Duncan instantly started grabbing a lot of chicken. "Yes yes yes!"

"Calm down dude!" Geoff chuckled.

"I've been waiting hours for this, no way I'm stopping!" Duncan munched down on some. "So good!"

"Thank you" DJ smiled at him.

Momma looked at the chicken. "It looks lovely, Devon." She smiled and took a piece.

DJ felt a bit nervous as he watched Momma grab some chicken.

She took a bite out of it and started chewing.

"How… how is it?" DJ watched her.

Momma lifted up a finger as she slowly chewed.

DJ blinked.

"I'm sure it's fine DJ" Geoff smiled and took a bite. "Wow, that is really good!"

DJ smiled at Geoff and then looked back at Momma as she swallowed the piece.

"Ah…" She wiped her mouth with a napkin.

"What do you think?" DJ smiled at her.

"It was great, very lovely" She smiled.

"Thank you, Momma." DJ could almost feel tears forming in his eyes.

"But." Momma suddenly said.

"B-but…?" DJ's happiness died instantly.

"It's… a little too spicy I must say, at least for me. Maybe use fewer chillis next time?" Momma suggested.

"Ah…" DJ looked down.

"Dude, you alright?" Geoff looked a bit worried.

"Ah.. ah…"

"Devon?" Momma looked at him. "It's ok it's-"

"Hahahahahaha!" DJ Suddenly burst into laughter.

"I-i hahaha… I'm so silly so so silly hahahaha!" DJ couldn't stop laughing.

"M-m.." Duncan was eating still. "Hey, why are you laughing."

"Hahaha! Hah- I'll hahaha I'll tell you another time!"

He couldn't stop chuckling.
