Mike paced the living room as he waited for Christine. The taxi was going to be here any moment to take them to the Navy Ball. He was in his dress uniform and ready to go.
"You look really handsome, Daddy." Hannah told him, she and Courtney sat on the couch watching him pace.
"Thank you," he said, he looked at his watch impatiently, "Christine, are you ready yet?" he called out.
"Yes, of course I am. I just love making you sweat about punctuality." Christine said as she came out of the bedroom. The girls gasped in awe while Mike was stunned.
Christine was a vision of beauty. She was dressed in a gold sequin cape floor length gown with a tasteful plunging neckline. Her dark auburn hair was swept into an elaborate updo. She had cat eye makeup and nude lipstick, she was in the middle of putting her drop earrings in.
"You look beautiful." Mike said, Christine smiled.
"Thank you, you cleaned up real nice." she said, her eyes roved his person. Mike was half tempted to ditch the ball and book a hotel room but knew it wasn't an option. His attendance was mandatory.
"Now, you two have my phone number. The babysitter will be here in 5 minutes to feed and water you both until we get home." Mike told them, he showed that he had his mobile phone in his jacket pocket.
"You make us sound like animals." Courtney said dryly, before she accepted his hug and kiss on the cheek.
"I've seen your rooms." Mike quipped before he kissed Hannah on the cheek. Courtney rolled her eyes.
"Be good, don't burn down or flood the house." Christine told the girls, she hugged and kissed them, they said their goodbyes and headed outside just in time as their taxi pulled up.
"Your chariot, Milady." Mike said as he opened the backdoor. Christine smiled as she slid into the car. Mike followed suit and closed the door. They were off to the ball.
"They'll be ok, right?" Christine asked, Mike took her hand in his.
"They'll be fine." Mike assured her, he pressed a couple of soft kisses to her knuckles. "Did I mention how beautiful you look tonight?" he asked.
"I don't recall you saying anything like that." Christine lied, Mike grinned at her cheekiness.
