Butch sat on the edge of the tall skyscraper. It wasn't the biggest building in Townsville, but it was fine for now. He felt the wind move through his hair. He liked it. He let his legs dangle over the edge, they felt heavy. He looked over the city. Some days it seems so big, others, so small. He looked down towards the ground, it was so far away. He started thinking what would happen if he would to just jump? Would he even bother to stop himself? Would anyway care? He knew the people of Townsville wouldn't. They would probably just let him lay there, his blood flowing into the swear drains. His brother's might miss him, right? Butch wasn't so sure about that now a days. Brick and him never to seem to get along anymore and Boomer just keeps himself. What has happened to them?
Butch already knew the answer to that. HIM is what happened. Butch stood up; the wind seemed to have gotten stronger. His body rocked back and forward. He spread his arms out, maybe jumping wasn't such a bad idea. Butch hung his toes off the edge, his eyes began to burn from the wind. Yes, the wind. He let one leg slide off the ledge when, "Hey Butch!" Butch looked above him to see his female counterpart.
Buttercup landed beside him, "What are you doing, loser?" Butch just looked at her. He didn't know how to answer her. He was starting to comprehend what he was about to do. Butch turned and got down off the edge, Buttercup followed. They said nothing for a while. Buttercup finally broke the silence, "Well, are you going to tell me what you were doing or not?" Buttercup placed her hands on her hips and tapped her foot.
Butch still said nothing but watched her foot. The noise was getting to him though, so he finally spoke up, "I don't know what I was doing." Buttercup let out a huff of air, "Well you know if you want to hurt yourself, let me do it for you." Buttercup half heartly laughed but stopped when she saw Butch's eyes, they looked so sad. Buttercup didn't want to admit, because that meant she thought about her male counterpart and his brothers, but she knew something was wrong with all three of them.
Buttercup took a step towards Butch, who didn't move. She took another step and one more before she was able to rest her hands on his shoulders. Butch looked at her, "What?" he asked as she moved a little closer and whispered, "Why are you so sad?" Butch was taken aback by they question, he pushed Buttercup away, "I'm not sad. I'm the Baron of Berserk. I don't get sad!" Buttercup nodded.
Butch didn't like the way she was looking at him, "I mean it, okay! I am not sad!" Again, Buttercup just nodded, "And I don't need no stupid, weak, lame, ugly girl helping me!" These words irked Buttercup, but she let them go, something told her that Butch needed to vent, and that is just what he did.
"…and I can't talk to my brothers about anything because at this point, I have to be the strong one. Brick is just so angry all the time and Boomer is so sad all the time. And we have nowhere else to go. I'm trying to keep us together and close, but I can't do that and keep my sanity and feelings in line but all the while no one ever wonders what I'm going through because you know what? I'm sad and mad too!"
When Butch finally stopped, he had to catch his breath. His face was red, and tears were starting to fall from his eyes. Buttercup stood, shocked, she was not expecting any of that. Buttercup felt like he wanted to say more, no, needed to say more. "Is…is that all?" she asked. Butch looked up at her, "What do you mean? Do you want me to tell you what I had for breakfast too?" Buttercup shook her head, "No, I mean, is there anything else? Anything at all?" Butch knew what she wanted him to say, she wanted to know what the "real" problem was.
Butch started to back away from Buttercup, shaking his head. "Butch, please wait." Butch said nothing else but took off into the air. Buttercup stood there and watched him fly away. She felt his knees get weak and soon so fell to the ground. Something terrible is happening to the Boys, she could feel it. She had to find her sisters and tell them everything. She took off into the sky. It didn't take her long to find her sisters, they had been looking for her too.
Blossom saw her first, "Where have you been? We are going to be late-" before Blossom could finish, Buttercup grabbed her and Bubbles into a tight embrace. They were both shocked, Buttercup doesn't do hugs unless something was wrong. Blossom pushed he away, "Hey, what is it?" Bubbles and Blossom waited for her to answer but she didn't. "Fine." Blossom said, "let's just go to school."
The fly to school was quiet. Why didn't Buttercup tell them what happened on the roof with Butch? She wanted to. Maybe they didn't need to know yet or maybe it wasn't Buttercup's place to tell them but her sister's own counterparts, would they? Butch did. The rest of the day flew by in a blur. Buttercup just kept to herself, sorting her thoughts out. She could probably tell her teacher but what good would that do? Maybe she could go to Mojo, after all he was the one who created the Boys in the first place so maybe he could help them. Buttercup liked this idea, it could work.
Her thoughts were interrupted by the Hotline ringing. Blossom raced over and answered it, "Yes, Mayor? The RowdyRuff Boys again? Don't worry, Mayor, we're on it!" As soon as Blossom hung up the phone, all three PowerPuff Girls took off. Talking to Mojo would have to wait, for now Buttercup had to pretend like nothing was wrong cause she knew Butch would do the same.
It didn't take long for the Girl to find the Boys. They were destroying a Farmer's Market. Knocking over stands, stealing food, some clothing items, and just being little punks like always. "All right, Girls, you know what to do! Let's get them!" Blossom shouted out orders before she and sisters split up to go after their counterparts. Buttercup landed in the middle of the Farmer's Market and watched her sister's. She couldn't see Butch at first but soon felt someone behind her.
She slowly turned around to see Butch standing there, twitching. He was ready to fight, she could see his energy coming off him. Buttercup didn't have to say anything, she nodded. She barely had time to react before the force of Butch slamming into her hit her. He needed this, he needed to fight, and she was going to give him a fight.
Butch threw punch after punch. Kick after kick. He wanted to make her regret letting him vent to her. He wanted to hit her so hard that she would forget her own name. Buttercup never fought back, only blocked some of harder blows. Butch reared his arm back and punch Buttercup so hard in the gut that she flew backwards into a wall. She coughed and tried to catch her breath and tried even harder not to throw up. She opened her eyes just as Butch came through the smoke from the building she flew into.
The look in his eyes was kind of scary to Buttercup. Butch was no longer twitching, instead he was shaking. Shaking with anger, "Who…who the…who the fuck do you think you are?" He screamed at her. He didn't let her answer. He grabbed her by dress and threw her into the air. Buttercup could hear the wind in her ears as she soared over what was left of the Farmer's Market. She didn't know where she was going to land and waiting for the impact put her on edge.
She finally landed into a tree, a giant oak one. Its trunk was so thick that she was surprised she went all the way through. Buttercup didn't know how much more of this she could take. She might have to start fighting back. As she began to stand up, Butch landed in front of her. Buttercup reached her arm out to stop him, to let her regain herself. Butch gave her that courtesy. As she stood on wobble legs, Butch walked to her. She tried not to let him see the fear in her eyes. She wasn't scared of him; she was scared of what he might to do her. Butch was just so full of rage right now that he might kill her if she didn't fight back.
Once Buttercup composed herself and caught her breath, she decided it was time for her to say something, "If you need help, why not go to Mojo?" This question shocked Butch but at the same time, angered him more. "If I could go to Mojo, don't you think I would have?" Buttercup stood straight up and looked Butch in the eyes, "He was your original creator. He cares about you. He'll help you." Butch stepped forward he punched Buttercup in the side. She once again fell to her knees. "You don't know fucking anything, and you never will!"
"Then tell me!" Buttercup yelled back before he could do anything else. "Maybe I can help. Or maybe my dad can." Butch slammed his knee into her chin, sending her backwards once again, "Just shut the fuck up you stupid little bitch!"
Buttercup spit blood onto the ground, "Alright fine. I tried to be nice to you but If this is how it's going to be!" Buttercup rushed Butch, grabbing him around his waist and sending them both into a nearby building. Butch stuck to it as Buttercup let go. She was about to punch him when he began to laugh. She stopped her attack and felt a chill go down her spine. She has heard Butch laugh before but this time it was different, it didn't sound like him.
Butch looked up, his pupils were small, he had blood coming from his mouth and head. He kept laughing and just stared at Buttercup. She didn't like it, "Stop it!" she yelled at him. He stopped laugh and got sad again, "Do you still want to help me?" he asked. Buttercup wasn't sure if she did after everything, but she nodded any way. "Then kill me."
Buttercup said nothing, she couldn't believe what Butch just said to her. Kill him? She could never do that. Could she? I mean in a way she did once but that didn't count, did it? Buttercup looked at Butch, she almost didn't recognize him. "How could she even ask me that?" she asked as Butch pushed himself out of the building, "Because deep down you know you want to, and I want you to." Butch moved closer; his eyes still crazed. Buttercup moved away from him, but he grabbed her wrists. "It'll be easy." Butch placed her hands around his neck, "All you'll have to do is squeeze really tight, I won't even fight back."
Buttercup felt tears roll down her face, she shook her head, "I won't do this Butch. I can't." she cried. Butch got angry, "Yes you can. You killed me once, right?" Buttercup was sobbing at this point, "That doesn't count!" As the two of them argued, subconsciously, Buttercup's hands did tighten around Butch's neck, it wasn't until he abruptly stopped talking that they both realize what was happening.
Buttercup tried to pull away but Butch kept her hands in placed and even put pressure on them so she couldn't let up. He smiled and with what little breath he had he kept repeating, "do it…do it…" Buttercup finally managed to get her hands free. Butch fell to the ground and tried to catch his breath. Buttercup looked down at him, she was shaking. She didn't know if was from fear or anger, maybe both. Butch stood up and they locked eyes. Neither one said anything, "Butch!" they both looked up to see Brick and Boomer flying by. Butch looked at Buttercup one last time before taking off after his brothers.
Once he was gone Buttercup hugged herself and sobbed. It wasn't long after that that her sisters showed up, "Oh my gosh, Buttercup! What's wrong?" Bubbles said as she ran over to Buttercup, Blossom close behind. Buttercup couldn't take it anymore; she broke down and told her sisters everything. Everything Butch said and did. Once she was finished her sisters were crying too but Blossom wiped her tears away pretended that she wasn't, "Well…I think we all had enough of The RowdyRuff Boys for one day. Let's go home." Bubbles and Buttercup just watched as Blossom flew away. They said nothing but soon followed their leader and went home.
In the woods, far away from Townsville, was Fuzzy Lumpkins' cabin. The Boys have been staying there for awhile now. The cabin was just outside the city line which meant, HIM couldn't go there. HIM was bound to Townsville; it was impossible for him to leave. The Boys were safe at the cabin.
Fuzzy was standing over an open fire with a Dutch oven, he was making squirrel stew for dinner. He just waiting for The Boys to show up with some fresh vegetables to put in the stew. Fuzzy sent them to the Famer's Market hours ago, at this rate the meat was going to be over cooked. Fuzzy sat on a log and began to pick at his banjo, Joe. Since The Boys stopped tying him up it had been kind of nice having them there, sometimes.
The Boys finally showed up. The landed in front of the fire, empty handed, "Now where in tarnation are all them there vegetables I done told y'all to get for supper?" The Boys shook their heads, "The damn Girls showed up and we had to ditch them. Sorry Fuzzy." Brick said. Fuzzy let out a sigh, "All right then, we will have stew with just meat I s'pose." Fuzzy pulled put four bowls and four spoons and a ladle. He served the Boys first who happily took the food. Once everyone had food, Fuzzy sat back on the log and pulled out a jar of moonshine. He took a happy sip.
No one talked as they ate but soon Fuzzy noticed something, "Say there, Butch. What's that there them marks on 'er neck?" Brick and Boomer both turned and looked at Butch. Butch tried to cover his neck; he knew what Fuzzy was looking at. Bruises from Buttercup squeezing his throat. "Oh, you know…battle scars from fighting the Girls. They'll go away soon." Everyone seemed to be happy with that answer and went back to eating.
Butch looked down into his half-eaten bowl. This stew would have tasted better with vegetables, he thought.
The End (for now)
