Rosie's Grand Adventure!

A/N: Thank you so much to Cheesyfic writer for taking a good long look at this as a beta.
Rose Weasley POV
Rosie woke up with a start. She had a nightmare, and there was a ghostly black hand chasing after her. When it caught her, it squeezed her until she was awake.
Rosie was a big five-year-old girl now, heading into primary school, but sometimes bad dreams still scared her.
Rosie slid off of her bed and grabbed the little toy doggie that her daddy had gotten for her. She felt the bed where she had just laid to see if she needed to tell Mummy that she had wet the bed. If she had, Mummy would be cross if she didn't tell her. Thankfully, the bed was dry.
She opened her door and walked through the inky blackness of the house. Everything looked odd at night, and nothing like she was used to. The clock on the microwave was the only source of light in the kitchen, and it read 2:38.
Rosie padded her way to her Mummy and Daddy's room and knocked softly. She tried again a few more times, but there was no answer. She stood on her tiptoes to turn the knob and went in.
Mummy might get cross if I wake her up, but Daddy always snuggles with me.
Quiet as a mouse, Rosie snuck over to her daddy's side of the bed, easier to reach because his was closest to the door. She lifted her little hand up to try and shake her daddy awake, but her wasn't there. Rose gulped and tightened her hold on the little doggie in her arms.
Daddy must've had to go to work, she reasoned with herself. Mummy is still here though. She might be upset, but I need my Mummy!
She made her way to the other side of the bed and lifted her hand to shake her Mum awake, but she wasn't there either! She tried to look up and see if maybe she was on the bed out of reach, but the bed was too tall for her to get a good look.
What do I do!? Mummy and Daddy are both gone!
Her young mind began to race as she thought of what she could do.
NANA! She lives on the other side of town. Mummy and I walk to her house all the time!
Rosie hurried out of her parents' room and headed to the main door. She opened it and made to go out.
"Oh!" she exclaimed, realizing that she forgot her shoes. She sat down and pulled her pink strappy sandals on just like daddy had taught her. She picked herself up and walked off into the night.
"It's ok Barfy," She said to her stuffed doggie, "Nana will find Mummy and Daddy."
She snuggled the doggie tight in her arms and began her trip across town.
She walked on the sidewalk, making sure to look both ways before crossing the street. The town was very quiet. Rosie was used to there being people walking on the sidewalk and cars driving down the roads.
She did see one car pull into the Halls home, but that was far away. Rosie hugged Barfy closer and kept going.
She soon got to the train tracks that bisected the town in two. She stopped again and looked both ways before running across. Her daddy always said to never linger on the tracks. As she was running across, Barfy dropped from her arms and landed on one of the steel beams that glinted in the moonlight.
"Barfy!" She quickly ran over and retrieved her loyal companion. She got off of the tracks as soon as she could and continued on her way to Nana's.
It was a large Victorian-style home, with a beautiful squat tower that was added to it.
That was Mummy's room, Rosie remembered them saying.
She carefully climbed the staircase that led to the porch and front door. She got to the door and tried to turn the knob but it wouldn't budge.
Uh-oh. What do I do if I can't get in?
She could always sleep on the porch swing, but that didn't sound comfy. She could try going to the Parsell's house next door since they were Nana and Gampy's friends and they spent a lot of time on their patio, but she didn't know them that well.
Back door, Rosie!
She had only just remembered that Nana and Gampy's house had a back door!
She climbed down the steps and ran through the yard like she had a million times in the daylight. She went to the back door and tried the knob.
It opened!
Rosie opened the door and sealed it behind her tightly, as Nana had scolded her for leaving the back door open in the past. She ran upstairs and went right into Nana and Gampy's room. She looked up at the bed and thankfully saw Nana and heard Gampy's snoring. Rosie clambered up the end of the bed and snuggled in between her two grandparents. Nana shifted in her sleep and pulled Rosie up against her, placing her chin on top of Rosie's fiery curls.
-Jean Granger POV-
Jean woke up early as she always did, yawning. She sat up and stretched her old and weary bones while cracking her neck.
She smiled as the rising sun flooded into the master bedroom. She smiled and turned to her husband, who was clutching their granddaughter, Rose, in his sleep. The image widened her smile as this looked identical to when Hermione was young and slept in their room, only now with wild Ginger curls instead of Hermione's brown mane.
Wait… what? Rose and Hugo didn't stay the night!
She gently shook Rose awake, and the tot blinked her eye crusties away and yawned.
"Good morning, Rosie," she said with a stern smile. "I think you've got some explaining to do."
-Hermione POV-
Hermione had slept in a bit that morning. She tried not to that often, but she was making up for lost time. That night, Ron had been called out at 1:30 to help with a bust and didn't get home until 3:30. She was awake when he left, but when he returned she barely stirred while he scooted her over to her side of the bed.
She did that often when he was called out in the middle of the night. There was something about hanging on to the last vestiges of his warmth and being surrounded by his smell.
Ron was snoring lazily beside her, his arm wrapped around her chest just underneath her breast, and one of his knees looped over the top of her legs.
Hermione moved out of Ron's snuggly embrace and got up to start some tea. She bustled around the kitchen for a bit before she decided to check on the children.
She poked her head into Hugo's room. His was blue with teddy bears painted all over it. Hugo had his face mashed into the pillow and his butt was sticking up in the air. She saw a wet puddle on his pillow from where he had drooled during the night.
"Oh, Huey." She sighed as she sat down next to him. She lifted Hugo up, righted him onto his back, and quickly dried the drool spot. She kissed her son on the forehead and exited quietly.
She crossed the hall to Rosie's room and entered quietly. The walls were a soft pink and puppy pictures were everywhere. Hermione smiled at the picture of Rose holding a newborn Hugo for the first time. She looked over to Rosie's bed and her heart jumped when she saw it was empty.
She rushed to the sunroom that had the children's toy boxes. Rosie wasn't usually an early riser. Neither of their children were, which was a trait she suspected came from Ron, but maybe this morning served as an outlier.
The sun room was completely empty and Hermione started to go pale, hurrying towards the bathroom situated off of the kitchen, thinking maybe Rose had gone to the bathroom and she had missed her this morning, but as she passed the front door she noticed that Rosie's pink strappy sandals were missing.
Hermione's world began to spin as a million thoughts ran through her mind.
The phone rang suddenly, catching Hermione off guard and she almost jumped out of her skin.
"Hello?" she answered, the pit in her stomach gnawing at her emotions.
"Morning, Tulip," her mother responded. "Just thought you'd like to know Miss Rosie Posie walked over to our house last night."
"Oh, thank God!" Hermione exclaimed, and she leaned against the doorframe to steady herself.
"She had a nightmare last night," her mother explained. "She tried to go to you, but couldn't find you or Ron…"
"Ron had to run out last night," Hermione laughed, "I move in my sleep if he's not there."
"Told you that you shouldn't have gotten such a high bed," Hermione's mum teased. "We're going to have breakfast and then I'll bring her home here in a bit."
"Oh no, Mum, you don't have to do that, especially when it was such a surprise," Hermione interjected. "I'll be over shortly."
"Alright, want to talk to our little adventurer?"
"Yes, please!" Hermione's stomach finally mellowed out.
"… here you go sweet pea… yes, it's Mummy."
"Hi, Mummy!" Rosie's happy voice came through the receiver.
"Oh, Rosie. I was so worried for you!"
"I'm okay!" Her daughter's chipper voice brought a smile to Hermione's face. "You weren't in your bed, Mummy! I had a nightmare!"
"Oh, I'm so sorry you had a bad dream, honey. I'll be over to pick you up soon, okay?"
"Wuv you!"
"I love you sooo much, Rosie!"
Rosie passed the phone back to her Nana, and the two coordinated a pick-up time.
Hermione pulled a still-sleeping Hugo out of his bed and laid him down on her side of the bed she shared with Ron.
"Wussit?" Ron mumbled, his eyes barely opening as Hugo latched onto his neck like a monkey.
"Back to sleep, love." She kissed Ron on the forehead. "I have to run to Mum's to pick up Rosie."
"Wha?" Ron squinted his eyes, trying to make sense of her words.
"I'll tell you later," she promised. "You snuggle with your son."
Ron turned into Hugo's belly and the room was soon filled with snores.
Hermione quickly ran to Rose's room and got her a change of clothes. She picked up her keys and took a second to laugh at the situation.
Harry's going to love this story.
A/N: It's funny but this exact thing happened to me when I was a little boy. I had a nightmare, couldn't find my parents and walked to my grandma's house. I remembered this story earlier today and thought…. Huh, that sounds like a nice bit for a one-shot XD.
I don't recall my grandma finding me in the morning and I actually asked my ma about how she found out about this and it's more or less the same. Only difference was that my mom was woken up by my grandma's call not already awake… but I figure Hermione is an early riser.
See you soon,
