Her mind had been inside a contemplative state for several days, her first days of her first summer vacation as a first year high school student. Sometimes, Shiho and Rina had caught Nagisa staring at the sky, that was weird because Nagisa was an active girl even when she just there, standing and daydreaming and the next time hitting herself against something because something inside her imagination. But not this time, Nagisa was really quiet.

Nagisa was unaware of her own behavior, but people around her did notice.

But what she had noticed was how beautiful Honoka became in half a year. Not watching her was an impossible mission for Nagisa. Honoka's dark hair, her pink lips, her soft body and her pretty face were so much for Nagisa' senses.

Why?

Why was she noticing all of her best friend's charming points up to that point? Honoka had always been beautiful, Nagisa knew it since the first time, even before they spoke properly each other, but this time she was taking the matter seriously. [If I were boy, she is the type of girl I'd like.] Nagisa had remembered those words the last days, her own words. Why did she say something like that out of the blue? Nagisa had never thought about that little detail, until the last weeks at least.

Why did she think it?

Why was she thinking about it again?

Why was Nagisa thinking about it just after shouting from the rooftops that she liked Fujipi?

Nagisa had noticed that lately she had stopped thinking about him. Why this happened? How? She couldn't understand anything.

By the way, Nagisa had wondered if her behavior wasn't strange at Honoka's eyes, but her best friend looked pretty calm like always. Nagisa didn't realize at first when she stared at her partner, she really got lost in Honoka's vision no matter what she was doing. Reading, studying, watching a movie, looking at her phone, talking with Mipple, sharing her path back home... Every time Honoka did something in their shared time, Nagisa stared at her like a fool... And by the next time, Nagisa shook her head and looked away.

The last few weeks had been difficult for Nagisa's heart. Sometimes Honoka had caught her glances and Nagisa quickly turned away and tried to distract her saying something... Or nothing. But Honoka only smiled at her every time it happened and that was enough to relax the sporty girl.

The days passed slowly. Everyone of that days, Nagisa suffered in a sweet way Honoka's displays of affection. Little things like holding hands in their way home or sitting around the river, sharing a look while they eat takoyaki or a simple smile was enough to blush Nagisa and make her smile in a shy way. Honoka smiled too every time.

"What are you thinking about, Nagisa?"

That question always made Nagisa nervous, mainly because Nagisa didn't have a clear answer for Honoka. But with or without a proper answer to the question, Nagisa noticed that Honoka just smiled at her and changed the topic. Nagisa was very grateful for her kindness. Honoka was the best.

Honoka was her partner, Honoka was her best friend, Honoka was...

Honoka was the only one in her mind lately, right?

No.

Not lately.

Honoka was in her heart when they fought the darkness and almost lost. Honoka was by her side hand to hand every time they faced the bad guys and also when their daily lives reminds them that they're only two school girls with a normal life. Honoka had always been by her side.

Honoka...

Her sweet and kind Honoka.

Her name was enough to make Nagisa happy.

For the first summer vacation days she was feeling better and comfortable with the idea. The soothing feeling for Honoka was more comfortable than the one she felt for Fujipi, that was an impossible fact to ignore. Nagisa didn't like to compare, but... But with Honoka everything felt better, even the silence when they're together.

Nagisa was in her room, on her bed playing a mobile game. The summer heat made her feel lazy, even her mom and brother took a break in the living room, they were watching a comedy movie on TV and Nagisa could hear their laughs. Nagisa smiled, she really loved her family and her home.

Nagisa was happy but she really felt that she needed something else.

Someone else.

And said someone sent her a text message like answering her thoughts. Nagisa quickly closed her game and opened the Line app. The message made her smile even more.

"Grandma gave me two coupons for free ice cream in the new ice cream shop in downtown, want to come?"

The lacrosse player didn't even write her back, instead she called her and Honoka answered on the next second. "Yes, I want to go!" Nagisa said with a happy smile.

"Great!" Said Honoka with a happy tone. "I'll see you in twenty minutes."

"Near the train station, right?"

"Like always."

Both girls laughed and finished the call.

Nagisa was wearing a fresh outfit, she just put her sandals on and set out to her... Date?

Nagisa shook her head. It was very daring to think about that. They weren't even dating! Honoka wasn't aware of her feelings and Nagisa wasn't sure about confess to her own feelings for her. Nagisa just wanted ONE thing. Just one.

And then she realized something on her way to the meeting place.

If Honoka was in those feelings inside her heart, then it was fair to tell her everything, right? Nagisa felt she could inadvertently confess to her when she least expected it. That was ridiculous! If she could yell at an amusement park that she liked her senpai, then she directly could tell Honoka what she wanted to say to her, right?

Right?

Of course!

Nagisa took a deep breath and prepared herself for... For whatever was going to happen as soon as she met Honoka.

She was ready!

~ o ~

No, she wasn't.

The picture of Honoka wearing a nice dress with a summer hat was too much for her senses. Nagisa almost fainted.

"Oh, Nagisa, just in time," said Honoka with a sweet smile.

"Ah... Yes!" She cleared her throat, "I would never be late for free ice cream," her words were true but this time she kept others words for herself. "Let's go!"

"Let's."

Without thinking, Nagisa took her partner's hand. Honoka smiled and Nagisa jumped in surprise when Honoka's hand gently squeezed hers. It was obvious that she didn't want them to let go of her hand. Nagisa gulped.

"What are you thinking about, Nagisa?" Asked Honoka with her gentle voice.

Nagisa sighed quietly.

She couldn't resist anymore.

"... You..."

Honoka blushed but still smiled at her friend, but she didn't have a chance to say anything, Nagisa spoke again.

"Honoka... I..." Nagisa took a deep breath, made a stop near a private alley and faced her best friend, her partner, her... Her everything. "I want you with me. I... I like you, Honoka." Nagisa choked for a second and looked at Honoka's eyes. "Do... Do you like me? More than friends?"

Despite her own blush, Honoka' smile grew wider and pressed her forehead against Nagisa's. Something in her reaction made Nagisa calmer. "Yes, I do like you, Nagisa. More than friends."

Nagisa cracked a smile and nervously laughed. "I... You... Err..."

"Let's go for our ice cream, this is our first date then, right?"

"Right!"

And they went for their ice cream.
