Sam felt his heart skip a beat as he watched Bucky get thrown out a nearby window and then another few beats when he missed snagging his arm just by seconds. Instead he had to watch as Bucky fell two stories to the ground, his heart in his chest the whole time. He yearned for his wings, but they had been 'undercover' on this mission and he wasn't allowed to bring them.
Bucky was able to land upright, but hard, Sam winced at the impact. Bucky stood up to give a wave, but faltered as he put weight on his left ankle. Broken perhaps? But Sam couldn't dwell on it for long as he was yanked away from the window and evaded another well-aimed punch from one of the Power Broker's minions. He made quick work of the remaining two goons, using the momentum of the one's attempted punch to send him flying into the other, the two collapsing unconscious in a pile.
Sam ducked his head back out the window to see Bucky trying to hobble back towards the building. "Stop moving, Buck! I'll be right down," Sam shouted and then headed to the nearest staircase, not wanting to try Bucky's faster way downstairs. Sam was thankful to not encounter any more hired help, but realized that that meant any remaining men would have scattered and likely called for additional backup.
They needed to get out of here. Now.
Sam kicked the last door open, and quickly scanned the front yard for Bucky. Bucky, who was leaning awkwardly against the building, started to head towards Sam, grimacing every time his left foot made contact with the ground.
"Man, didn't I tell you to stop moving?" Sam said, dashing over. He ducked slightly, so that Bucky could swing his left arm around his shoulders and started to help Bucky hobble towards their exfil. But it was slow going, and the looks that Bucky was sending Sam also showed that it was painful for Bucky.
So Sam stopped. Shaking his head to Bucky's unasked question, he bent down further, and placed his left arm under Bucky's knees and picked him up in a fireman's carry. God damn, Sam thought to himself, as he attempted to shift Bucky's weight appropriately. Super soldiers were heavy, and the added weight of the vibranium arm wasn't helping either.
"Sam, Sam," Bucky said, wiggling a bit in his arms. "Put me down, I can walk!" He argued as Sam continued to walk away from the building.
"Stop shifting Buck, or I will drop you," Sam threatened, tightening his hold on Bucky and starting into a light jog. He swore he heard the sound of a helicopter off in the distance, and wasn't sure if it was theirs or the bad guys. Bucky's hand tightened on his shoulder, echoing his concern.
It wasn't until Sam heard a beep in his earbud and Torres' reassuring voice in his ear that Sam could let his grip relax slightly, although he still held tight to Bucky, not wanting to follow through on that threat he made a few minutes ago accidentally.
"That's our exfil," Sam said, tilting his head in the direction of the helicopter that they could both hear clearly. "Coming to our coordinates, ETA is 2 minutes."
Bucky gave him an exasperated look. "Care to set me down then?" he said dryly, nodding when Sam eased him to the ground.
Standing up, Sam let out a loud groan as the weight was removed from his arms. "You're too heavy for these kinds of maneuvers," he complained, shaking out his legs.
"That's not what you said two nights ago," Bucky said with a grin. Sam could hear Torres stifle a laugh over the comms as his face turned beet red. Sam knew exactly what Bucky was referring to, flushing as he remembered thrusting into Bucky as he held him up against the wall, Bucky moaning appreciatively as the two gasped and groaned their way to completion.
"Coming now Sam-" Torres chirped in the headset, pausing for only a moment before adding "-but maybe that's a poor choice in words."
Bucky couldn't hold back his reaction anymore, his quiet chuckles turning into full belly laughs while Sam's cheeks felt like they were burning. Ducking slightly to avoid the wind as the bird landed, Sam reached down to help Bucky make his way onto the helicopter.
"Let's hold off on any more sexual innuendos until we're off duty, okay?" Sam managed to ask, while trying to ignore the remaining chuckles coming from both Torres and his boyfriend.
Torres nodded, scurrying back into the co-pilot's seat with a nod. But Bucky leaned over to whisper in his ear. "As long as you promise that we can repeat that move again soon," he said, a smirk on his face.
Sam nodded, he definitely wanted to try that again. But maybe reversed this time. Because Bucky was heavy. And Sam wasn't getting any younger.
